Did you have to remove the power steering pump???? was it accesable from above or did you have to do it from underneath and take off the sump guard . Also how much was your thermostat , frauds quoted 45 quid???? seems a lot .

Where is the thermostat on a 1.9 tdi 1997 , in the tis cd it mentions taking of the power steering pump to get at it , this suggests its on the bottom hose on the engine is this correct ??? fraud quoted 45 quid for a new one . My problem is that the car takes ages to warm up and I thought it might not be shutting properly does this sound right or do they all take ages to heat up ??????

I would check the starter as well , I had a car a few years ago and it would turn over fine when it was cold but after it had been run for even a short journey the starter wouldnt even turn untill it was cold again , changing the starter motor cured it straight away.

Hiya Ive had the clutch replaced and Ive just done the gear selector cables , but the gear lever has got a lot of play in it , looking at the white plastic ball on the gear lever it has some slack in it from side to side does anyone know what and how many bits are needed to get rid of the play , ie is the "ball" seperate from the gear lever and how many parts does the seat that it sits in come in ?????????? :D

:ph34r: well finaly finished relacing the selector cables , not really a hard job just very time consuming having to take out the front inerior of the car , but it was worth it , gear change is better than its ever been due to the fact of my cables have always been held on with cable ties from when I bought the car .

I am bitting the bullet and doing it myself as we are going away in it soon and my garage cant fit it in , I have ordered he cable it should arrive today and Ive started stripping out the interior , looks like my new years day is going to be spent in and under the car :)

Ha sanyone replaced the selector cables , is it a pig of a job any tips etc would be great or should I just send it to my local garage who is pretty good and at least if he does it I wont end up with cuts scapes and oil under my finger nails for two months .

Airbag warning light is on after my local garage had the battery off while doing my clutch, how do i get it off ?????Surely not frauds ????

Just had the clutch done at great expense and now the gears seem notchy as if something isnt aligned up correctly , does the linkage from the gear lever to the gearbox need adjusting ?, is it adjustable ? 5th gear and reverse seem worse than before and 3rd and 4th seem harder as well . Any info would be greatly apreciated

I have a 97 diesel and I thought all that age galaxys were 90ps but I have seen one today advertised as 110ps how do I know which mine is ????

Anyone know where I can get a new or second hand drivers door window mechanism ???????? as the cable has snapped in mine

MIne did this and the starter had died , there was no warning it was fine one day then next day nothing , to prove it is your starter and not an electrical fault on the car , bypass the cars wiring and connect a battery direct to the starter and see if it turns over , you will need some 2 big cables and the switching cable to the starter .

My sump gasket is leaking on my 1997 1.9 tdi the garage I use isnt sure if this can be done in situ or not has anyone replaced their sump gasket ??????????

mine on my Mk1 died the other week , I changed the batteries and tried reprogramming it but i think the control box has died, central locking still works on the key though , the control box is dry as well , I was htinking of buying an alarm which I can link up to the central locking which would give a better remote control instead of my crap one which even when it did work you had to be virtually inside the car to unlock it!!!!!!

I have no worries about my booster heater :huh: Thats because mine hasn't got one .

I have noticed sometimes wheni turn the key there is a pause before the starter motor starts and it starts as if the battery is low then springs into life and starts ok . Is this likely to be the battery going a bit pear shaped or is it more likely that the starter motor is going to go pear shaped ??? Any idea of costs of both items
