Had A Flat Battery (ca Type)
BrummyGit replied to Dave-G's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Is that the standard warranty book - can you point me in the right direction? I trickle charged it for 24 hours after it getting 2 good 20 minute runs yesterday and it's still only showing 12.3v at rest. I checked the current drain which seems to match the experiences of others on here at 200ma when locked up with the alarm on. So I'm guessing its the battery and I need to know if I have a valid claim against Ford in year 2 of my warranty. Thanks -

I had a flat battery again today with the car having stood since Wednesday. It looks like a trip to the dealers for another warranty claim if they'll honour it. I suspect they'll say a battery is a consumable although it's not specifically excluded in my warranty booklet. -

Checked mine again - it's black :) I might do the voltage test, but also speak to the dealers to ask if it would be covered under warranty (I suspect not). -
I have a 1 year old Galaxy 1.9TDi 150 Ghia. 3 visits to Wombourne Ford to try to fix the booster heater only resulted in water leaking from the booster after they botched the last attempt. The car was then taken in to another dealer and diagnosed that new sensors are required and that the water pipe had been trapped when refitting the booster and this damaged the rubber hose causing the leak. Fords and the other dealer had NO warranty history on computer despite my car having been to Wombourne Ford for: Booster Heater (3 visits) Brake Failure Door Seal (3 visits) Window trim replacement It appears they have never submitted claims or updated the Ford computer system so when I told the new dealer that it had been in 3 times for the booster I think they all thought I was lying about how the damage had been caused. It took Ford customer services to ring Wombourne Ford to clarify the situation (only after much heated discussion with me). To cut the story short I opened a case with Ford Customer service who would not budge that the pipe damage was caused by Wombourne Ford and so this was not a warranty issue and it had to go back to them for repair. My car went back on Friday. The pipe they had ordered did not fit and so they trimmed the end off the existing one and claimed to have tested everything. After about 10 miles over the weekend it was apparent that the leak was actually worse than before and the booster still does not fire u. I turned up on the doorstep on Monday morning very unhappy. The have used "special tape" to temporarily fix the water leak in the middle of the pipe and are ordering more parts. The told me the sensor ordered for the booster does not fit because Ford have also changed a pipe it fits into and so they need to order that as well (I wonder which model they are ordering parts for if so many bits won't fit my car). They also told me that they were not confident of fixing the booster and maybe a main dealer would be better. So now in summary Wombourne Ford have had my car in 5 times for the booster and only succeeded in damaging (and not yet repairing) a water pipe. The car has also been into Tamworth Ford once when the pipe damage was done. Ford insist the leak is the dealer's problem. My argument is that Ford employed the dealer to fix my car under warranty and as I have no contract with the dealer (the warranty is from Ford) then it is Ford's problem. They won't nominate another dealer and won't get involved. How do I put a metaphorical toe under the corporate bottoms at Ford? Wombourn

Recommend A West Mids Ford Dealer?
BrummyGit replied to BrummyGit's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
Ford insisted Wombourne repair their damaged pipe as it was not covered by warranty so it went back in on Friday - the pipe they had ordered was wrong and didn't fit so they "repaired" the original by cutting the end of as "it was leaking from the end" and refitting. Monday morning I was back as it still leaks and the booster still doesn't work. They even suggested I take it to a "main dealer" as they are not confident they can fix my booster - but I can't until they fix the leak which they used "special tape" on to effect a temporary repair while we wait for parts. They also told me that it's because the car is basically a VW that causes so many servicing issues. So I would not recommend them for Galaxy work. -

How "Green" is the green? My 1 year old galaxy is struggling to start in this weather just as though the battery is low. I had a look at the window this morning and it looked more Black than Green, but was I expecting to see too much under the shadow of the bonnet? Thanks -
Well I opened a case with Ford and after a different dealer checked the coolant leak Ford insisted that the original dealer needed to correct this as it was their mistake and not a warranty issue. I'm annoyed because surely the work was done as a warranty job on behalf of Ford so they carry the can for any damage caused. Anyway it went in yesterday for the booster and leak and came back "all fixed". I ran it today and the booster didn't kick in with a displayed temp of 8 degrees, but I hope to try again over the next few days as the forecast is for low temperatures which will get rid of any question marks. Hopefully then I can ask any dealer to fix the booster as there will be no water leak to worry about.

My Hamster Ate My Galaxy
BrummyGit replied to BrummyGit's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I managed to get a camera with Infra-Red into the dash and it appears that the soundproofing was a nice meal for one, but the wiring (as far as I can tell) has survived intact. Th car is back together and other than a dodgy booster heater (which is another story) it is running fine. Sorry, I've no pictures but just imagine a hamster and a noose close by -
OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
BrummyGit replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The poll needs a "I'd like to use the correct Ford specified oil, but who knows what rubbish the dealer is putting into my car out of his drum even though I pay the the correct grade" option. -

Checking the wiring is difficult - it was high in the dash in areas I can't get to such as the passenger airbag and behind the heater ducts etc near the pollen filter housing. I'm trying to get hold of a small cctv camera that can see in the dark to check further - but sadly I don't know any stomach surgeons or SAS soldiers. -
One of the kids Christmas presents was a hamster which my wife bought on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately we had to wait an hour before trying to sneak it into the house - in which time it had gnawed through the carry box it was sold in and decided to set up home in my Galaxy dashboard. To cut a long story short - it took around 7 hours of dismantling (with the aid of a very, very nice AA man), baiting and trapping to get the little bu**er recaptured by which time it had chewed its way through much of the sound insulation matting and who knows what else because it was wandering around in areas we can't get to. I've started re-assembly and have so far found a couple of problems I need some help with:- The stereo has lost the nearside rear door speaker, but the nearside rear speaker for the 3rd row seats works. Does anyone know where the two split as there is only 1 output from the head unit? Secondly the car has failed to turn over a couple of times when I tried to start - just a turn of the key and the dash lights go out but no starter motor. The battery was probably very low after 7 hours searching with interior lights on and it has only done 1 short journey since so is this simply a flat battery problem or something more serious? It may have happened 1 before the rodent incident but I can't honestly remember. Thanks Steve

Recommend A West Mids Ford Dealer?

My relationship with Wombourne Ford has now deteriorated. 3 visits to try to fix the booster heater only resulted in water leaking from the booster. The car has been taken in to another dealer and diagnosed that new sensors are required and that the water pipe had been trapped when refitting the booster and this damaged the rubber hose causing the leak. Fords and the other dealer have NO warranty history on computer despite my car having been to Wombourne Ford for: Booster Heater (3 visits) Brake Failure Door Seal (3 visits) Window trim replacement It appears they have never submitted claims or updated the Ford computer system so when I told the new dealer that it had been in 3 times for the booster I think they all thought I was lying about how the damage had been caused. It took Ford customer services to ring Wombourne Ford to clarify the situation (only after much heated discussion with me). So my vehicle will visit Wombourne Ford no more. Oh and by the way their Certificate of Employers Liability Insurance displayed in the service dept ran our in Jan 2005. -
I am not sure they know who a dealer principle is. They are a semi-rural small dealership and I think I am best heading off to another. I may open a case with Ford so that the new dealer has some backing to repair any of their mistakes. You should have heard the flannel they gave the owner of a 2 year old Galaxy that had done 36k and had a slipping clutch. They told him it was a grey area as far as warranty goes, but to book it in just before the warranty expires (in about 6 months time) and they'd see what they could swing. This poor guy has a slipping clutch and will be making friends with the AA sometime soon.

I've been using a small dealership quite close to home so far, but yesterday I noticed that their certificate of employers liability insurance that is displayed expired in January 2005 and their Ford Accessory cabinet is totally empty. They are really an old school garage and I don't think they are up to the job. I'm going to call Bristol Street Motors in Birmingham on Monday as they originally supplied the car and offer collection and delivery from my work address. The weeping coolant appears as drips on the underside of the booster - sitting running on the drive for 5 mins will drip a couple of times so not much. In this weather I initally thought it was puddle splashes or condensation from the rear A/C pipes, but now I have realised that it is pink in colour so must be engine coolant.

I'm getting pretty fed up with my local dealer. My 1 year old Galaxy has been into them 3 times now about the booster heater: 1st visit - to tell me that it needs a new (modified) glow plug (no sh*t sherlock!) 2nd visit - to fit the glow plug and return it "untested" 3rd visit - to check it on the computer diagnostic tool So today they plugged it in, scratched their heads, ....quote "cleared all faults" (but didn't seem to know what) and told me to give it another try. He even tried to tell me it would only work below 5 degrees not 10. I now have a booster heater that still doesn't fire up, weeps coolant fluid and my dealer is scratching his head telling me he doesn't know what the problem is and can I book it in for it's fourth visit. I am sick of the disruption and lost work with the car in so many times for such a common fault. Do you think another bigger dealer will take it on if I explain how close to the end of my tether I'm getting? Cheers
-
The car is back from the dealer today. The diagnosis is that a new glow plug is required - no surprise there then  I just have to wait until 1st December for a courtesy car and the part to arrive. Interestingly I was told there is a modified version - on a Nov 06 car. I'm amazed that my car does not have any revised parts being so late in the production run. Hopefully it will reduce the likelyhood of the same happening again <yeah right :) > After picking it up this evening it sounds like there may be something loose under the sill as I had a rattle on the way home. Has anyone had this after the booster has been fixed? I gave it a quick wobble when I got home and it seems fairly sturdy.

My 1 year old TDi 150 has lost it's booster heater in the last few weeks. It has worked this season as I recall the feeling of relief when I spotted the smoke and caught a nose full of the jet engine smell, but it is not even attempting to fire up now (I've sat at the side of the car and the fan never starts). It's going into Fraud tomorrow so hopefully it will come back working, but I've started to wonder why it would fail so early. My car is regularly started 1st thing in a morning just to move it onto the road so my wife can get her car out which means the engine probably runs for no more than a minute, and so I guess that the booster is part way through starting up when the engine is turned off. I'm wondering if this is triggering errors which will cause the booster to stop attempting after 5 failures? Additionally does anyone know if the previous errors which are logged get cleared when the heater runs correctly or will 5 errors in the life of the car be enough to disable it? Thanks

Brake Failure Mystery On 2005 Tdi
BrummyGit replied to BrummyGit's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My Galaxy has now been into my local Ford dealer for 30k service and most importantly to check the brakes. It was returned with no major fault found, but the dealer told me he had contacted Ford Technical who had advised them to replace the brake fluid. This has been done under warranty. I'm not sure I'm happy with the outcome, but I guess I have to wait to see if anything else happens as I can't prove any fault and have even started to doubt myself as the brakes works so well now. -
Brake Failure Mystery On 2005 Tdi

Any idea why it would appear to be working fine again today? If I press the pedal hard it stops and then creeps a little further but I can't persuade it to go to the floor again. Thanks for all the help. -
Brake Failure Mystery On 2005 Tdi
BrummyGit replied to BrummyGit's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
VR6! Thanks for the reply. Excuse my ignorance, but would this cause the pedal to go all the way or just give a hard pedal with no assistance? -
My Galaxy 2005 TDi 150 brakes failed on Saturday night while my wife was driving the car. Half way through a 25 mile journey the pedal went down to the floor coming up to a roundabout and only gave minimal braking force. Luckily nothing was coming and afterwards a couple of presses of the pedal pumped them back up. For the rest of the journey they would do exactly the same if they had not been used for a little while. I'd had a couple of beers so whilst probably close to the limit my wife drove into our road and I jumped in for the last few metres and my first press did exactly the same - down to the floor with a good hiss from the servo, a couple more pushes and they pumped up allowing me to park the car on our drive. I looked under the car and all around the wheels this morning but can't find any fluid leak and we've had no warning lights. So I jumped in this morning expecting to press the pedal to the floor only to find the brakes apparently normal. So I've done about 50 cautious miles today without any problems. It's a good job I felt the problem myself otherwise I'd have declared my wife insane. I can't work this out - no obvious fluid loss and no recurrence of the problem. Can anyone shed any light on what may have happened as I'm convinced any dealer will declare "No Fault Found" but unless this gets fixed I'll never trust the car again. Any ideas?

My TDi 150 seems to be getting noisey and has more vibration than before. It is less than 1 year old and has done 26,000 miles. The reason for my post is that I can't say I trust the dealer 100% who has serviced it to use the correct 505.01 oil although I make sure I do for top-ups. Would the wrong oil mean the engine would get rattly as the oil deteriorates towards the next service? I've also had it rattle as if there was no oil in the head at all once or twice at a cold start. Turn off and restart fixed this - no idea why.

I have a factory 150bhp TDi and have been told by colleagues in Germany and Austria that the 150bhp 1.9 TDi was a step too far. Apparently they (VW) had loads of problems especially with Golfs being used on the Autobahns popping the engines. I'm led to believe that 150bhp is really as much as this engine will do with relative safety, hence they have moved more models than initially expected to the 2.0 TDi Just a word of caution for anyone risking their warranty, but saying that the performance on mine is good, although it does drink oil if it gets booted for long journeys.

Recommend A West Mids Ford Dealer?

I finally got my 10,000 service done at Wombourne Ford yesterday. So far I've no gripes - my sills are intact and they told me in advance that part of the reason for the
