  1. Was there any further progress on this fault - I've had the same code pop up on mine a couple of times and I must admit I was wondering if it was caused by my "eBay special" VCDS cable or if my Aux Heater is on its way?
  2. Thanks, but unfortunately for me it looks like I need a new metering pump as mine worked fine with a full tank after bleeding, but with just under half a tank I'm now getting: Monday, 10 December 2012, 23:11:51. 3. I was about to ask a similar question - my newly fixed booster heater wasn't running after a journey yesterday when I know it started up fine from cold. I have bridged the temp sensor so I know it wasn't latent heat cutting it out. Is there a set of conditions where it stops running - it seems to make sense if you are on a long journey which works the engine enough to no longer require the booster to maintain temperature, or is it just a sign that my run-on pump also needs some tlc? I'll download the fault codes later when my wife brings the car back.
  4. Hi, I need soome help and thought I'd resurect this old thread. I have factory Xenons on my Galaxy MkII and the dipped beams are aligned fine and recently passed an MOT. My main beams are a different story all together with both pointing to the left hand side of the road. I know from previous work which adjuster is the height control, but will adjusting the other (horizontal??) one wreck my low beam adjustment or is the horizontal adjuster only for the main beams?
  5. Result, I think. I checked eBay and found the same motor from a 2001 VW Golf with 35 minutes left on the auction. Picked it up for £15 + postage. Fingers crossed that we can move on to my other dramas next.
  6. Can you help out a near suicidal Galaxy owner? I'm going through the mill with the Galaxy at the moment, but I have an urgent problem that I need some help with as the car is off the road at the moment. I'll be asking the slightly less urgent questions in the coming days when the car is back on the road. In the recent wet weather my O/S headlight has managed to get water in, and it was enough to drown the levelling motor. My car has Xenons and the short adjusted the headlight to it's highest position, jammed itself and looks like everything has burned out. The circuit board is trash for sure. I urgently need a part number for the motor. It has the following stamped on it: 0 307 853 305 13.07.05 1 J0 941 295 E My car is a 2005 TDi 150 Ghia with factory Xenons. Thanks in advance
  7. I'm getting exactly the same symptoms (even the new battery last spring) on my 2005 1.9TDi and was also thinking that it might be relay 109. Working normally it starts instantly, when the fault occurs it will spin for ages with no firing. If I let it spin long enough, or try a second (or rarely third) time if starts normally. I've never had a cut out when the engine is running but the starting is getting more frequent.
  8. Hi Gregers I've not found the thread about the run-on pump - will go looking again, and I've never had the clouds of smoke to be expected when the glow plug fails so I suspected a quick check of the errors and reset in VAG COM might have been the quickest way to get myself on track with cause of the problem. I am also well aware that the controller on my unit is often the culprit. Thanks
  9. After working flawlessly all last winter, our 2005 TDi 150 Galaxy now refuses to start the booster heater after the summer break. It's been to our local independant VW specialist who tells me he can "hear the fan turning" but can't find any errors on his diagnostic computer. He wants to replace the glow plug. To be honest I think he is much better with his spanners than the laptop and so I'd like some help to diagnose the fault before throwing good money after bad. Is there someone with VAG COM or somewhere recommended that can help me with a diagnosis? Would be willing to travel a reasonable distance and if a member can help, I would be willing to pay for your time. Thanks
  10. Thanks - do you know if that's where the timer module is?
  11. My 2005 Mk2 Galaxy has developed a switching problem with the heated screen. Almost every time I start the car the heated front screen comes on and goes off a short time later. When on or off the push switch on the dash only actually switches its state maybe 1 time in 10 pushes. I have swapped the relay R23 labelled 100 today but this seems to be a simple switching relay and hasn't made a difference. Can anyone help with this problem or point to either a wiring diagram or the location of the timer unit which could well be the fault. Thanks
  12. Perfect, thanks.
  13. I don't have the old alternator as it was an exchange unit, but the noise started after the turbo replacement. The alternator was swapped about a month later and swapped again a few days later because the garage initially fitted a 90 amp unit instead of a120 amp. On that basis I think I can safely rule out the alternator pulley based on identical symptoms with 3 alternators and pulleys. Its going in this week for a new aux belt and to get the guide pulley checked as I'm told by the VW specialist that a guide pulley can make the same noise as a screeching belt. It's strange that both of us have only started with this problem after the car has been for work.
  14. Thanks - I have a MK2 so the aux belt is the one with the tensioner. Couldn't track down what I needed with search so far.
  15. I have a problem with my car making a strange noise and I've decided to swap the auxiliary belt. Can anyone tell me how easy this is - do I need to slacken off the tensioner in any way or is there any clever technique for the job? Does anyone know the approx cost for the belt? Thanks
  16. It was an alternator including new pulley, but the noise is identical both before and after that swap so I'm pretty sure it's not the cause. I might change the belt as a precaution.
  17. I'm getting a very similar problem on my 2005 TDi 150. My symptoms are a screech or squeel only under heavy acceleration normally on full Turbo boost in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear from 1700 h 2000 rpm. It is worse when cold but still happens when warm and sounds like its coming from the aux belt or dash area. My history is that I recently had the Turbo replaced due to catastrophic failure, and the car returned with this noise. The VW specialist that swapped the Turbo can't find a problem/cause but the alternator and pulley have just been swapped due to alternator problems and the noise is still there. The tensioner on the aux belt is relatively recent. The only thought I have is that there was a reasonable amount of oil spraying around during the Turbo failure and the AA accidentally starting it without a dipstick. I'm desperate to find the cause as I'm terrified I could destroy another Turbo, but I don't think the noise is directly related to Turbo speed/boost levels. It sounds belt related. Thanks Steve
  18. My car is just back from the garage after having the alternator changed. I opened the bonnet to admire the new one and a sticker was peeling with the part number on it. For the sheer hell I did a google and it came back as a 90amp model when I was expecting it would be higher. Can anyone tell me (or tell me where I can get a definitive answer) what alternator I should have on my late 2005 Galaxy TDi 150 Ghia with heated seats, ESP, xenons (I think it was called the technology pack)?
  19. It's been in at a local VW Specialist for a couple of days and hopefully it's all fixed. Because it's nearly 2 years of noises I decided to get a thorough job done. I had the water pumped swapped while we were looking at that side of the engine as Ford didn't suggest it when the cam belt was changed, but I've since heard lots of horror stories. For the sake of it while it was all apart I had a new cam belt kit fitted too to avoid opening everything up again too soon. It's all been re-assembled and everything checked as we suspected it could have been the aircon condenser not disengaging correctly - thankfully it is OK. The major noise problem was the alternator - the bearings were shot. That could explain the occasional "Alternator Service" warning that's flashed up in the last month or two. So it's back to the garage in the morning escorted by Securicor to settle the bill and get the Galaxy back :-) Hopefully we can have piece of mind again and our trip to the South of France in the summer can be uneventful.
  20. I've started the car again today from cold and at idle it sounds very much like there is a piece of metal getting thrown around inside something - could it be the alternator, power steering or something else driven from the drive belt?
  21. I've been having problems with my 2005 Galaxy 1.9 TDi 150 for around a year now. It all seemed to start after the cam belt was swapped, but that could be coincidence. Unfortunately the cam belt was done by a Ford dealer and they didn't suggest I swap the water pump at the same time. We started with rattles and metallic noises at tickover and have since had the alternator pulley replaced (the clutch had seized) and also the belt tensioner. Things improved a lot, but during the summer when the engine had got nice and hot, and especially if the weather was hot too (aircon???) we would get a rattle and whine at tickover just like the alternator pulley problem which went as revs increased. Now in the cold weather we are getting a whine/screech at ticker when starting from cold which goes after the engine warms up slightly (not even at normal operating temp). On the odd (and very rare) occasion we have seen an alternator warning pop up for a brief second. The car has always felt sluggish starting from cold even though the battery has been replaced for a new 100AH Silver Calcium unit - I now doubt that the old battery was as dead as I thought. My car has been back to a VW specialist many times with this problem and we are getting nowhere. Can anyone offer some help? Thanks
  22. My description of the noise could be better - it sounds quite bearing like, and wasn't there before it went for service.
  23. My 2005 TDi 150 has just been into Ford for a 60k service, Cambelt + tensioner, Aircon service & regas. I have noticed a noise this evening which is mechanical and seems to relate to engine speed. It sounds like it's coming from the drivers side and is not a rattle but a whir or rumble which can be heard best on the overrun. I obviously need to take it back to Ford but would welcome some ideas. I suspect, but am not sure that the exhaust may be blowing or more noisey towards the engine. I am also interested that the receipt shows the oil as "Shell" - any idea if this is likely to be a suitable spec for the PD engine? Having spent
  24. So far so good - I fitted a new battery on Monday evening and so far starting has been perfect. The Gal spins quickly and fires firt turn. I'm guessing I busted my original fit battery by totally flattening it when the car was a couple of months old as things haven't been right for a while. Sadly Ford didn't want to know outside of year 1 of the warranty. Anyway I thought I'd say that I managed to fit a 100AH Silver Calcium battery which is the biggest I could find that fitted the Galaxy battery tray - it is the same height and depth but much wider and exactly fits the tray. It is also listed on the Varta UK website as fitting the Galaxy and was in stock at my local National Tyre Services who wanted to sell me a 70AH Silver Calcium replacement. It was not cheap at
