Its another of those scams to make things appear better than they are. 115 PS sounds better than 113 BHP (or whatever it is). It's like when we swtiched from gallon prices to litre prices at petrol stations - it didn't seem as expensive

Cruise Control Indicator
pj_andrew replied to Taliska's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have CC but not the steering wheel controls (just the old style on the indicator stalk). As mentioned, no CC light in the dash. -
Cruise Control Indicator
pj_andrew replied to Taliska's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I've never seen any mention of a CC light on the dashboard. It looks like its a Seat or VW feature but not the Ford. My Galaxy certainly doesn't have a light for the CC on the dashboard. -
When I got the car I thought the analog clock would be useless. But I've actually grown to like it ! Makes a change from digital everywhere !!

Worked it out when I got the Galaxy. The extra for the Diesel wouldn't pay itself back (through cheaper fuel) for 4 years. I'll be on to something else by then.

Just paid

I have the manual 2.3, and the revs sounds about right.

Are the sensors on all the time? (re: people walking past in slow moving traffic set them off). On our car they only come on either when I press the button on the console or I put the car in reverse. They are not on all the time. They can be slightly annoying but I find that I need them on more often than not needing them, so automatically coming on when in reverse seems ok.

Click, Click From The Air Con
pj_andrew replied to pj_andrew's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Whilst idle at the traffic lights, the clickclick is accompanied by a decrease and then upward correction in revs. Sounds normal, previous cars used to do the same. Its just the clickclick noise I haven't really heard before. "The Compressor Electric clutch cycling". :( Sounds great ! -
With the climate control on AUTO the unit makes a click, click noise every so often. I'm guessing its as the unit switches from cooled air to normal air to maintain the inside temperature. The noise isn't loud, just sounds like a light switch going on/off. It's not annoying, I'm just curious (The cooled air is fine - very cool - unit is working well) Anyone got any ideas.

Having driven again yesterday, it feels that the acceleration is ok. Get to 30 in 2nd, boot it and it picks up ok. It may be my perception of speed. After travelling at 80 for a while and then slowing to 30 and then trying to get back to 80, it just "feels" slow. But, having set off in the morning for example, the acceleration feels ok because you haven't just been travelling at speed for a long time. The other possiblility of the ECU learning and adjusting sounds interesting. Does the ECU do that ?
-
I've noticed that there is a distinct lack of acceleration on A and M roads in my 2.3 Galaxy. With 2 adults, 2 children, some luggage and the aircon on full blast (it was a hot weekend), then putting your foot down to accelerate from say 20 or 30 is a slow process. For example, going round a roundabout on the A1 at 30 and then booting it to get back up to 70/80 is hard work. I find I have to rev to 5 or 6000 to get any sort of acceleration. OK, the aircon was on full blast but its pretty much the same without it on. Does this sound familiar to anyone ?

Reliability Of Galaxy Aircon

Got a post 2002 model and haven't had any problems with the aircon. Blasts out plenty of cold air when its hot. No problem. -
Air Vents Behind Harndbrake
pj_andrew replied to pj_andrew's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have climate (not dual) and the air comes out of the front vents, the vents in the rear left panel and a very small amount from the handbrake vents (only when fan is full blast). -
I thought the air vents behind the handbrake were used for rear ventilation but I now find that there are vents down the left hand side of the boot space for that. What are the vents behind the handbrake for ?

I got our G through a dealer who buys direct from Ford just like the Ford dealerships. The car was immaculate, new tyres, totally clean (i.e. no scratches) inside and out, and one year old. I got it from http://www.mjacarsales.com

Just How Does The Climate Control Work ?
pj_andrew replied to pj_andrew's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
All replies seem to make sense. After an hour or two of the fan on 3 bars and above, it gets a bit annoying having the air blowing all the time. I tend to switch to ECON for some time and reduce the blower - that gives me a rest from the air flow, then switch back to AUTO. Really, unless its above 16 or so outside ECON is good enough - taking the air from outside. AUTO is great if the sun is streaming in as all the glass means the car heats up really quickly and AUTO does a good job of cooling the car down. I have noticed if I try and force the fan on in the back, while AUTO is on, after a few moments the unit reduces the fan in the back to nothing. I presume this is due to the restriction is available cold air, so it all goes to the front. -
I'm still having hassle with the climate control. The handbook makes it seem easy but I'm not convinced. The one main question is if its on AUTO then cooled air comes out of the vents but it seems to just keep coming and the fan stays on at least 3 bars or above. Surely after a while the car should be cool enough. I have the temp at 22. Usually I have to press ECON and the fan calms down to 2 or 1 bars and the cooled air stops. Shouldn't AUTO calm down once the car is cooled to the right temp? (or perhaps it never cools down enough in the car - too much hot air from the occupants!)
-
Thats right. I checked the handbook and on my model (post 2000) you lock the car twice within 2 seconds - this locks the doors but disables the alarm. Apparently it works with the normal key and the remote key. The way to tell is that the flashing red light in the drivers door flashes if the alarm is armed (i.e. lock the car once), and stops flashing if the alarm is disarmed (i.e. after locking the car twice). I can now lock the car at petrol stations with the children inside and not have to listen to the alarm going off ! :)
-
I always use the key and just lock the car normally i.e. half turn to the left. The alarm is then set. I need to check the handbook to see if its possible to lock the car but not arm the interior alarm.
-
I have a similar concern. If I leave the children in the car at a petrol station and lock the car to go and pay, the alarm goes off. No surprise really but I won't leave the car unlocked so its a small price to pay. I haven't found a way to disarm the alarm and lock the doors. !

There was a previous thread about this, http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/forum/index.p...461f288ba1ac18f (Might work !!)
