The ONE thing that bugs me is the deviation off topic in the tech section. Sometimes people are desperate for information about something that can mean the difference between forking out hundreds of pounds or finding a relatively simple fix yourself. It is a pain when you log on to find 5 or 6 replies to a question only to discover all are "jokey conversation" because someone went off topic. This should be clamped down a bit. For instance, just why is the "foreign object in car" thread still active in the technical section? This would have been moved to a more appropriate section or deleted in most of the other forums I visit. This is just a personal bugbear of mine. As for an "18s only" section, surely people have better things to do than visit an adult section of a car site?

Have a look Here for the colours. Ours is a p reg 2.0 petrol too and although it is metallic purple, when we got a mirror re-sprayed, it was identified as Fleurie red so I would look at that colour first.

Flickering Dash Lights
soptom replied to Vanbursta's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I'd be inclined to check the brightness adjustment wheel. -
As well you know, that isn't what I'm saying at all and any sort of adult intelligence would have told you that without having to resort to sarcasm (the lowest form of wit) to reply to me. People here have a lot of knowledge of all things Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra, but there are a lot of differences between the models, years and engines, as you know. Ah **** it ... can't be arsed anymore. This forum, in the short time I've been here has changed from being a friendly place with the odd bit of friendly banter and instead is filled with sarcastic ****** and people hijacking sensible threads with nonsensical **** (mods included) See ya later .. account closed I wouldn't go so far as to leave the forum as it's helped me out on numerous occasions, but I do agree with the sentiment. It is frustrating when you see numerous replies to a thread that you have an interest in, only to find they are just people having their own irrelevant conversation. Other forums don't like off topic drivel, maybe the mods should crack down on themselves and others. I'm only posting this "off topic drivel" as the question raised seems to have been answered. We don't need knowledgable people leaving the forum for ANY reason do we?

EDIT: I changed said tensioner this afternoon, just one large bolt holding it in position, what I can't get my head around is this. Whilst wondering how to remove it I went down to our local Ford parts department to have a look at the part and see if I could figure out how it is fitted and my wife got a quote for Ford to do the work. The part cost

After checking again, I think that I'm missing some kind of plastic wheel that fits on the metal bearing of the tensioner, is this available from Ford or VW or elsewhere seperately does anyone know? Oops, pressed reply instead of edit, sorry.

Having looked at various aux drive belts from various manufacturers, I have come to the conclusion that the spring loaded tensioner on our p reg 2.0 Galaxy is the wrong one. The roller seems too narrow and sliced a couple of ribs off of our previous belt. That is, unless there is some kind of plastic roller which fits onto the metal part? Does anyone know if there is more than one type of tensioner for the 2.0 block? Has anyone got a picture of the correct tensioner? This is such a stupid little fault yet it's keeping the car off of the road. Can anyone help? (See previous topic for more info).More info

The Galaxy (2.0 p-reg) started early morning squealing the other day, I guessed the aux drive belt needed changing as it didn't look too healthy and the noise was situated around here. When I changed it this morning, it looks like the tensioner wheel is too narrow for the belt. It had cut the 6 rib belt down lengthways so it looks like a four rib belt with a 2 rib part shorn off. I bought a belt today(6 rib as all the pulleys are) yet it is definately too wide and overlaops the tensioner wheel. For some strange reason the new belt seemed slightly too long and although it ran all of the ancilliarys, I have removed it as it obviously didn't seem right. It did silence the squeak though. Is there something obvious I'm not doing? There are only two belts for this engine, with and without A/C and I double checked I bought the right one. To be honest, I'm more worried about the seemingly narrow tensioner than the lack of tension as a shorter belt would sort this bit.

It could just be that a pipe has come off of the carbon canister behind the drivers side front wheel arch, it was exactly that on ours and caused the exact symptoms you describe. Put "carbon canister" into the search box (change 30 days to any date).

It's positive trigger. I do have a wiring diagram for an alarm, I can't seem to add it, if you want a copy (it shows the wires in the Galaxy that are needed for various alarm functions), e-mail me and I'll send you it. bensonboo@hotmail.com

Error Code 3 On A 6006e Unit
soptom replied to mumof4's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=14019 Put "Ford 6006e error 3" in Google and check the results, it doesn't look good going by the one above. -

I didn't mean you, it sounds like you know what to do ;) , it was what someone else advised in an earlier reply. -
Little Oil Can Showing.
soptom replied to mumof4's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
On every car I've owned there is 1 ltr difference between the min and max marks on the dipstick. You should wait a minimum of 3 minutes for the oil to settle after switching off before checking the dipstick though. It sounds like you are sure it's oil level and not oil pressure, in which case the dipstick doesn't lie whilst the light could be spurious. To remove the bulb and sell the car on because the oil level light is faulty is laughable and underhand to boot. -
Rear Wiper Blade Replacement
soptom replied to FamilyWagon's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If your rear wiper has metal stiffening rods in it, slide them out and turn them over and put them back. It should now clean the whole screen. -
I would agree that changing the air and oil filters won't do any harm, although the couple of times I've had emmisions problems with the cars I've had, it's been failing lambda sensors. it does sound a bit vague about the ABS too.

I would also recommend laser alignment, at least it will give you something that will point you in the right direction. Also well done for not just taking the easy option of just selling on, it seems some on here would be fine to wave goodbye to the lady with kids as she drives off in her new Galaxy knowing that it will be her that suffers the next blow out. Nice.

No, it shouldn't be filled but I'm not sure of the "correct" amount to be put in. -
Wobble On Acceleration
soptom replied to roly1977's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If I remember right, I managed to get hold of a large cardboard syringe pre-filled with CV grease at a motor factors a couple of years ago. You slid the end of the tube under the edge of the boot and Bob's your uncle. I'm sure these are still available, I would try it before you splash out on drive shafts as it was only a few quid. -
Can't help much, but I know of a good garage in Wroughton that sorted our Galaxy first try and at a good price. We try and get ours booked in there everytime something goes wrong. It's not good when you are regulars at a garage is it, bloody Galaxys.

Rear Stop Light And Rear Washer
soptom replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Check under the passenger seat for wetness. If it is, your rear washer pipe has come apart at the join under the passenger front door sill trim. Unsure of the lights problem. -
Take off the drivers side front wheel arch liner, you will find a black canister with two pipes going into it bolted to the bulkhead, one of the pipes may be loose or hanging off.

I'm glad your mind is put at rest a bit, as has been said many times, the pedal travel is long, not excessive, there is a difference. It could be the case that a solid pedal is considered wooden and lacking in progression too. ;)

Nah, not me mate, completely chilled, just amused (and concerned) that people can say the brakes are alright for all the reasons stated when in their heart they know theyre not, who are they trying to kid? Take care - JB You're a mind reader too? No wonder you're always right. Mine passed the servo test someone posted, but for other peoples sake, I will start wearing a little bandana round my head with a rising sun on it. ;)

Good for you, well done.
