Can you not just undo bolt number 12 and remove shock this way instead of changing the lower joint and track rod ends?
-
Nightmare, might have to re think my plans. I didn't really want to spend any more money! Might just get the allen key and spanner on them just to see if they shift at all before I go all out to change them.
-
In my box of springs there are 2 rear spring seats or at least I think that's what they are. I hope the rears are still straight forward for the 4motion! Drove the Sharan quite hard over some large speed bumps on Sunday to try to assess the dampers. They are good to go, if I can get the top nuts off.

Ordered my strut top bushes and bearings on Saturday. :46: How did you get on?
-
Well, not sure if I should do the same now, the sharan has just clocked 80k. I only bought it as a stop gap, but the wife and I really like the car. With 1 child, a baby due in about 2 weeks and a dog, it was a necessary purchase. Never thought that I would like a bloody people carrier, hence why I am lowering it in the first place. I wouldn't bother if I didn't like the car. Did you buy original equipment strut tops, or cheap ones from ebay?
-
You're gonna have to do a before and after pics. I need to see them. I prob won't be fitting them for a week or two. Why do you need track rod ends and lower ball joints?
-
Fantastic, do they look good? Which courier did they come with and was it signed for? I couldn't work from home today and I've got a nasty feeling they'll be taken to a depot that won't open tomorrow so I'll have to delay install until next weekend now - pah! They do look the part, just black with eibach written on them, which is more oem. All instructions in the box are in german. Not sure which courier as we have several deliveries during the day at work and it was signed for. I wont be installing till I have some top mounts and a good forcast with no rain!

Mine have just arrived. :46:

Just noticed that they have bumped the prices up for these lowering kits. :46:

Low Constant Droning Noise

Just a long shot here, but you have mentioned that you have changed the front wheel bearings, but not the rear. Am I missing something here? I would suspect those first. Just a thought. Just realised that this is quite an old post! -
Just had an email stating that my order has been despatched. :46:
-
Oh well, the 6 cylinder kit is not in the UK at the moment. They have ordered a kit from Germany for me. :) I will just have to wait a bit longer. Booo
-
Will this defo fit the sharan? Oh well, just ordered anyway, It should fit. Absolute bargain. :) Cant wait, I have been putting WD40 on the top nuts for a few weeks now.
-
And the 6 cylinder spring set is only £147.70 for some reason. :) Very tempted. :)

Galaxy 2.8 V6 1999 (mk 1)
v6mikey replied to doug's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I can't help thinking about my experience with an old golf with 60K on the clock, with an intermittent oil pressure light. I removed the sump to find the oil pick up pipe was slightly blocked. Cleaned it out and it went on to do 50K without any other problems. The problem of running rough in the winter sounds just like my other old golf V6. A squirt of WD40 around the coilpack did the job. The golf had the old large single coilpack, again arcing between the leads. Never had to buy new leads. Just a thought tho. -
Don't bother. A K&N filter can damage the MAF. Not sure if the Mk1 has a MAF? I put one in my golf 2.8, after a couple of months it started running rough, new MAF was required. (Oil in filter gets on the MAF sensor, apparently!) I defo won't be putting one in my Sharan 2.8.

Drove the Sharan again this morning down a small country lane and still cannot believe the difference these small drop links make. It so smooth and quiet now! Its like a new car! I also bought my drop links from ebay £11.00 for 2 delivered! :D Will let you know how they last.
-
Just changed my drop links. Again only 10 mins each side. Didn't take the wheels off, just turned the wheels to allow access. OMG What a difference. Drives very quiet now, very pleased. :D

Just as a heads up. The gases now used in the AC system are not harmful to the atmosphere. :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane It is still illegal to vent the system to the atmosphere though. :D

I bet so many people out there are running the wrong spec of tyre and do not realise it. When i bought my sharan a couple of months ago, it did not have RF/XL tyres and they were the wrong size of tyre. I am always much happier knowing the history of tyres anyway, so replaced all 4 without any hesitation. Sold the others on ebay!

Cruise Control Retro Fit.
v6mikey replied to v6mikey's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well I battled with this for 5 hrs on Monday, not really a diy job I think. I class myself as quite handy under the bonnet, but I didn't enjoy this task at all. It could be the fact that it is a V6 and a bit tight for space, but my god was it tight to work on. Anyway after the first 30 mins had passed I had given up on the idea of trying to photo all the steps, just because it would have taken too long. At the end of the day I do have working cruise control and I am very pleased because I had missed it so much. For anyone who wants to know, the cruise control lights comes on the dash when you turn the cruise control on whether you have a speed set or not. I think this is the correct as my old golf did the same. -
Common problem, please see;- http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...mp;#entry142094

I have just purchased the cruise control kit from Teeside VW. Not received it yet but I was wondering if a How To with pictures would be helpful for anyone else. Otherwise I would just get cracking with it.

Didn't do anything about it at all. Just whacked the new compressor on. It had bungs on the pipes connectors to keep out rubbish. When I took these bungs off, a bit of oil came out, so I thought i'd just try it. Still working well. Drove to Wembley and back last Saturday to watch the match and was so glad I had working AC. :)
