Too Hot - Need To Fix A/c
v6mikey replied to Yozza's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
When I got my sharan the ac did not work. Went to quick fit who recharged the system but still did not work. It was Diagnosed as a faulty compressor so I bought a second hand compressor (ebay for £29 delivered) and a new dryer. I had read about the leaky cap on the condenser, so when I changed the dryer I cleaned the cap and its socket and lightly greased them. Recharged the ac and its still working today. I did this over 3 years ago. I always leave the climate on auto so the gases circulate and lubricate the seals. It doesn't make too much difference on the amount of fuel a v6 drinks. -
I'm Booked In For A Lpg Conversion Tomorrow
v6mikey replied to snappy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Do you have a 2.3 or a v6? I looked into an LPG conversion a while back for my v6, but looked like to much of a faf for the v6! -
Try lifting the clutch pedal up with your foot before activating cruise. There is a micro switch on the pedal which needs to be activated before cruise will work. Other than that make sure you have no warning lights on the dash or make sure your brake lights work. Usually it is one of the switches on the brake or clutch pedal.

Epc And Traction Control Light
v6mikey replied to spj630's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I bought a cheap VAGCOM cable from ebay, downloaded the VCDS software then plugged into the car to read the fault codes. You really are just taking a stab in the dark without the fault codes that the engine or abs is throwing up. -
Bizzare Electrical Problems
v6mikey replied to Nicky & Rog's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I would suggest you inspect the wires in the doors and boot. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/8401-checking-wires-from-door-to-pillar/page__p__64104#entry64104 When they break they can cause all kinds of electrical gremlins. -
Resetting The Service Warning
v6mikey replied to golfmadman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Had to turn the clock to reset mine. -
Mine had usually cleared the ice to slush within 1 minute, then you can just use the wipers.

I have fitted one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aero-Rear-Wiper-Arm-Blade-UPGRADE-VW-Sharan-05-02-/230672116440?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35b5212ad8#ht_1942wt_1021 Works well and matches the aero wipers on the front.

Sharan 4motion for you here Mirez. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201129403433418/sort/datedesc/usedcars/model/sharan/make/volkswagen/postcode/pr41tg/atcide/eat4/saved-search-id/2c92961b2747366001278ff76661015a/searchcontext/alert/keywords/4motion/radius/1500/page/1/alert-email-date/20110719?logcode=p I have never seen an 05 plate before that is right hand drive. Bit of an unusual one.

Air Con Compressor
v6mikey replied to michael.darling's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I also saw that, so I replaced the dryer at the same time. Apparently when the system is open to the atmosphere (ie mew compressor being fitted) the dryer needs to be replaced. This is the part required. Although I managed to buy a new sealed VW item for around £25.00 from ebay at the time. Front bumper off job though to replace the thing. -
I replaced my compressor last year and since then left the AC on auto. It still works great. I reckon that keeping the AC on econ (AC off) damages the system very quickly. Most handbooks state that you should use the AC at least once a week to keep things moving. The reason most people turn the AC off is for fuel economy, must admit I have not noticed any difference in fuel economy with the AC on of off. :(

Wiper Linkage Removal And Regrease.
v6mikey replied to suzuki91's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I had this exact problem a couple of weeks ago. I thought I was going to break something with the amount of force I tried to remove them with. I took the nuts off then soaked the spindle in WD40, left overnight and they came off quite easily the next day. :D -
Retro Fitting Cruise Control
v6mikey replied to nigel b's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi, sorry for the delay. Just checked my instructions and yes, there is only 1 wire to connect inside the car except for the connector to the actual cruise control stalk. This is on a v6 model, might be different for other models. My instructions were going on about dismantling the fuse board to connect this wire into the car. This wire had a connector that slipped into a slot in the fuse board. But I couldn't dismantle as the instuctions asked. So I cut of this plastic connector and connected the wire into the wiring harness. I believe this wire is to supply power to the switch but I couldn't guarantee this. Good luck. :o -
Retro Fitting Cruise Control
v6mikey replied to nigel b's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I should know this as I have done the job myself, but i cannot remember. I remember cutting a plastic connector off a black wire that connects to another wire into the fuse box. This was the only wire to terminate in the actual car, all the others were into the ecu. I will have a look tonight and let you know. -
Checked Your Fuel Filter (petrol) Recently
v6mikey replied to Amarok's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I changed mine last year when I bought the car. It looked just like yours, although I never opened it up. I thought then that it hadn't been changed for a long time. I always get a sense of satisfaction when you remove the old crap filters and put nice new ones on. -
Gonna see if I can get the parts from a scrapyard as that does look much better than the original. My trim round the wipers and the scuttle are knackered anyway. Do you think the bonnet strip that is supposed to be riveted to the bonnet will come off easily without any damage? Or would you just buy a new one?

24mpg every day without fail. Long term is on 23.9 mpg, this includes winter which I used to start it up and leave it to warm up. Not forgetting lights on full, heater blower, heated seats, heated screen and rear window. Pop down to the shops though, which we should walk it but never have enough time, and you can only see 18 mpg. This is the exception though. Going to France in a couple of weeks. I am hoping to see 28-30 mpg. If we need the roof box thats going to go down to 26-28 mpg. (Roof box will be easier to access with the new springs fitted though  .) I'd love xenons, but it was not a deal breaker for me. The car was perfect for us with another little one on the way. My old Golf V6 4motion had xenons. I liked them, (think they look great because they are different) but never thought they were that much better than halogen with decent bulbs. Maybe the Golf needed new bulbs as apparently they do go dimmer over the years, I had it for nearly 6 years without changing headlight bulbs.

Blimey, most people go the other way. Once they have had a V6, they want a diesel. When I bought our's, it was the only 4motion for sale on the trader so there is not much choice out there. I only bought our's for the spec that comes with a v6. You get all the toys and having 4 wheel drive is the icing on the cake. My last 2 cars have been 4 wheel drive, you just get used to the traction off the line. No front spin at all. If a mint 03 reg (I think they stopped the 4motion's on the 03.) tdi 4motion came along with the right spec, I might be tempted to ditch the V6, but I think I would have to have it re mapped to give it a bit more oomph. Photo's would be great if you can. I took my scuttle plate and wiper surrounds off on Monday because they are so loose, all the clips are pretty shot at and it sounds like this upgrade would be a better solution all round.

Mirez Have you also found out if any other parts have been modified for this upgrade such as the seal to the bulkhead as you mentioned? Cheers

How Do You Remove The Wiper Arms!

Cheers for that. A good soak with WD overnight and they came straight off this morning with a bot of a wiggle. -
Suspect Aircon Drain Tube Blocked
v6mikey replied to goggy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks Mirez, you have done it again. I would not have found mine at all if it wasn't for your old post. My drain was behind the sound deadening. Cut it away and out come all the water. Sorted. -
Air Con Drain Pipe Location
v6mikey replied to v6mikey's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Found it. Mine was hidden behind the sound insulation. I think the insulation has moved slightly and blocked the drain. Once I had cut away some insulation about 1/4 pint of water came out. Looks like no more damp carpet. -
Some pics of this with the bonnet up would be good. I would be interested in doing this.

Can anyone direct me to the location of the air con drain. My AC unit is leaking into the passenger footwell which indicates the drain is blocked. I have the car on ramps now trying to find it, but cannot see anything that looks remotely like an AC drain. Please please help.
