How Do You Remove The Wiper Arms!
v6mikey posted a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Nearly swore in the title as I am that fed up with trying. Now, I do know how to remove wiper arms. I even have a tool to do said task, bit the tool does not fit the Sharan. My arms just will not budge at all. Soaked in WD now and going to leave overnight and try again tomorrow. Just really annoying. Any other tips would be helpful. -
The deed has been done. Springs had sat in the garage for far too long. I never really had the time, so the I got the garage to fit them today. All I can say is wow. What a difference in the handling. It feels like a completely different car. The best way to describe it is that it has stopped wobbling. Very very pleased. Pics to follow if anyone wants them.

Air Con Compressor
v6mikey replied to michael.darling's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Took me an hour to replace the compressor on my 2.8, so no its not labour intensive. Its just an expensive part. I bought a second hand one on ebay for -
Bit of a long shot, but I had this on a golf a while back. Took the sump off and cleaned the pick up pipe and gauze as it was full of rubbish. Never beeped or flashed at me again.

Scrap that then!!

23-24 round town with the AC on auto. 27-29 on the motorway with the AC on auto. Econ can save 1-1.5 mpg. This is according to the cars MFD and not towing. I don't tow anything yet! 4motion is excellent. :)

Its a sharan/alhambra thing - the galaxy has a different scuttle cover and panels so the extender thats attached to the bonnet isn't needed. Its only the late 05> (IIRC) gal's that have this style. Do you know if it can be retro fitted?
-
Just answered my own question. Looks like the car is supposed to have one on, but it is missing. Found quite a few on google images.
-
Spotted a couple of Alhambra with an extra spoiler type thingy on the top of the bonnet. Not usually into this kind of thing, but it is oem. The previous owner of my car must of butchered the plastic trim below the screen. Therefore it rattles at speed. When I spotted this spoiler thing, i thought that it might just stop the rattling. Will it retrofit onto my car and does anyone else have them? Picture i found on web of an Alhambra with the small spoiler or trim. Must just attach to the top of the bonnet.

Air Con Compresser Removal/replace
v6mikey replied to muppetofdoom's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Quite straight forward to change the compressor. I did it myself. You have to remove the engine guard underneath then it has a couple of bolts that hold the compressor to the engine and the 2 pipes to the compressor need an allen key. The automatic belt adjustment on the V6 is a doddle (Not sure what its like on yours.), just need an old 10mm threaded nut to screw into a hole on the adjuster to slacken off the belt. I bought a second hand compressor from fleabay last year and it works fine. -
Weve had around 8-9 inches of snow around us, so I have been out playing. :( The 4motion system gets excellent traction and can wade through the snow up and down hills no problem. Yesterday a grinding sound started from directly under the gear knob. I thought that this could be expensive. Had a look today and a block of ice had formed on top of the propshaft to the rear axle, just knocked it out and we were all sorted :D Just thought I would post to let anyone with a 4x4 Galaxy or 4motion Sharan know. Got the Nexen N3000 on at the moment. I would recommend them as well. Not too bad. Although my fuel consumption has got worse since they were put on. This maybe down to the car having the incorrect size of tyre in the first place. Should have 215 55 16 but it had 205 55 16. Worse still they were only rated as 91H tyres. :angry2: I am looking at some winter tyres at the moment because its all well and good having plenty of forward traction you still have to be able to stop. Dont mind swapping them over in March and November. Oh and don't forget mine is 4 wheel drive!
-
And yet mine just wafts in and out of our estate, up and down hills with 8 inches of snow without any wheelspin at all.

Hi Mirez. I have been looking around for a set of shocks for the front. Starting to think it may be a wise move before I even try! Which did you buy? Are they any good? Cheers

It's gathering dust in the garage at the moment. Just like my lowering springs. Too cold and not enough time. :)

Yours is The mk1 galaxy vr6 AAA is a 12 valve head develops around 174 bhp which has one coil 6 prongs situated inbetween engine and battery.Vagcom doesn't show coil faults how you tell is when you can go less than 70 and get 14 miles per gallon. V6mikey has mk2 galaxy vr6 AYL is a 24 valve head develops around 204 bhp which has six individual pencil coil's situated on top of each cylinder .Vagcom does show coil faults on the model.so does annoyingly the engine light on dash. Yours is popular with tuners, turbo's race ht leads iridiam plugs ^^ ahh those were days .spent forever dreaming about putting turbo on. Doesn't matter now as have Expolice pursuit Galaxy mk2 Rs(badge on clocks  ) monster tuned somewhere in nottingham.Huge rear shocks ,massive disc's and god know's what done to engine.oops going of topic the mk1 however I did prefer the seats far more comfortable than mk2 . Absolutely spot on, but my VCDS lite didn't tell me I had a coil pack failure, just a missfire on cylinder 2. I cleared the codes then moved a couple of coil pack around before I bought a new one. I then had multi cylinder missfire. :) Anyway all sorted now.
-
Just a bit of a heads up you V6 owners. I had the dreaded missfire start on Sunday, ah I thought, gotta be a coil pack. The V6 has 6 of them! It just completely dropped a cylinder. So I looked on flebay, I didn't fancy buying second hand so I rang VW. To my surprise they are only

Came across one of these quite cheap, not the one in the link but just the same :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160496960143&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_482wt_1156 I am going to have a go at updating the sharan to the new rear lights. I needed a new light and number plate panel anyway. I will keep you informed, with pics!

Plug Removal Mkii V6 24v
v6mikey replied to jonnyf's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well I changed all the spark plugs recently. Pondered on how to remove them for a few minutes. I just got a suitable sized allen key, then held the allen key in a set of mole grips to pull the coil packs out. Worked a treat! :D I wasn't that careful and they are still fine 2 months later. -
Please give me first refusal for your alloys if you ever swap them. ;) Your 17's that is!
-
Must be your 17" alloys, mine only has 16's at the moment and looks like yours before you changed alloys.
-
Blimey, that looks excellent. Love the ride height now. Yours looked lower than mine as standard for some reason, maybe the alloy wheels. Love the de striped doors as well. Easy to do?
-
Cheers mate, looking forward to seeing pics. Is it a lot bumpier at all?

How much were they?
