  1. I did think it could have been the gearbox, but it does go over the 4k revs when it wants to. I was thinking about removing the cat as a temp measure to test it. It's like there is a loss of fuel when it gets to 4000K revs. One of my friends said it could be the rev limiter kicking in too early, but I'm gonna have to carry on investigating whats causing this problem.
  2. Hi, I've been using the Comma coolant for a few years now and it seems perfectly fine. It is VW approved which is what made me buy it. It is more expensive than the normal stuff, but it seems to be good quality. Product webpage here: http://www.commaoil.com/Product%20Pages/Co...treamredcon.htm Hope that helps.
  3. Hi guys, I haven't been on the forum for ages. I hope you all are doing well. I've been having some issues with my Gal that I've been trying to sort out. I'm getting a loss of power at around 4000 revs on my 2.0 GLX auto. What happens is, the car accelerates normally to 70 - 80 and then there is a loss of power. I press the throttle all the way down and the car doesn't go past 4000 revs. If I ease off a little, sometimes it goes past and accelerates with a slight jerk as if the power is coming back in. I changed the plugs, then the leads, then the coils. The problem was still happening, so I changed the fuel filter and the Lamda sensor. I took it for a test run and at first it seemed the lamda did the trick, but after about 1 minute at 80mph the loss of power kicked back in. I got a bit pee'd off and took it to the dealer. I told them about what the problem was. When they called me I saw that the Gal was parked in the exact same spot where I had left it and it looked as if it hadn't even been moved :D . Anyway, they said that they suspect failure of the secondary air pump or a problem with the cat. Does the 2.0 have a secondary air pump? I don't think it does. Those bloody fools charged me
  4. Hello, I've got a 2.0 GLX 1996 'N' reg auto and mine gives about 30mpg if I keep it at a constant 70. Only a few days ago did I change the plugs and leads. The Plugs I used were platinum ended ones Made in Japan. They are the NGK VX Platinum BKR6EVX. After changing the leads and the plugs, the car responded a lot better from before.
  5. I tried those new LED White stop tail bulbs with the LED's pointing in different directions, but the level of light was still very low compared to using a normal bulb. Cars such as BMW's and Audi's use a new technology of LED called "Luxeon" The LED managed to fire out light in all directions like a normal bulb, but with all the benefits of an LED. Be warned though, because Luxeon LED's are very expensive. As for a pre-assembled LED rear cluster for the GAL, I suppose you'll have to wait and see if any of the third party manufacturers come up with some designs. At the moment most of the LED clusters around are for boy racer type cars. Check out Autostylin for more info.
  6. Well I haven't taken off the grill for the speakers on the doors yet, but I'm thinking about getting 2 sets of Infinity 652.5i's. It's a 165mm speaker with a built in tweeter. Can cope with 75 W RMS. The thing is I'm going to have to see if there is enough room for the magnet, etc.. but I'll let you know what I used.
  7. Hello, I spent Sunday morning sorting out the amp installation kit. Finally hooked up the RCA's and the remote wire to my amp, and WOWE! My gal sounds like a CLUB!! LOL  Oh my god, the acoustics of the Gal are just amazing. Tomorrow I'm gonna change the door speakers when I get a chance. I've put a power cap in that compartment at the back where the jack is. It should be alright there. With a little fiddling, I managed to find the correct grommit under the passenger side. Thanks guys
  8. Hello, I was messing about trying to fit some 4 AWG cable today and I know this may sound dumb, but I can't find that gromit under the glove box. I'll take a pic, and maybe someone can point it out :P hehehe sorry for being so cheeky it's just that I don't want to mess anything up Thanks
  9. Hello! I changed the plugs, leads and fuel filter in the Gal and took it for a run. It did the trick! It's actually gone faster.. Thanks for all the help guys!
  10. yep the whole middle part of the part has been pushed in and cracked in various places. A Merc Sprinter went into the back of it. That ebay link is someone else selling the part.
  11. Ok, thanks for the info guys, I checked all the leads. I got all the stuff today to do a home service on the Gal. The thing is, where abouts does the fuel filter go on the Gal? Is it near the fuel tank? or nearer to the engine? I'm sorry to ask this question, I think I'll order a Haynes manual for the Gal. :)
  12. Hello, I took my Galaxy for a long drive today on the M40. Whilst about 30 miles through the run, I noticed that there was a sudden loss of power. My Galaxy is a 2.0 auto. Now I know this is the smallest of the petrol engined versions, but I was only doing around 70. I also noticed that the car was jerking. I had to do that "kick down" thing in order to keep the car at a constant 70. Now to my knowledge, I am suspecting it to be a fuel problem. I'm thinking that either the fuel filter is clogged or the injectors could be dirty. When I got home I put some Redex in the tank. I'm gonna go for a short run at about 2am to see if it made any difference. The other thing is, I keep thinking about auto gearbox timing? is there such thing? You'll have to excuse me, but I haven't had an auto before so its all new to me. I just hate things like this because I can't sleep properly :D The other thing is that the engine in my Gal looks like the 2.0 in the RS 2000. I think the RS 2000 one was chain driven too. I'm gettin really paranoid now and I'm thinking about changing the oil, air filter. oil filter. fuel filter, coolant and transmission fluid. Why can't things just work! AAAAAAAAAAAAARgh! :D Any suggestions? :D
  13. hmm, ok now thats seems like more of a mission fitting than a Toad AI606!.. i get scared drilling holes on the bodywork of cars.. I think this will have to be done by some ICE specialist. I just hope they dont charge an arm and a leg for it. But thanks for the pics, very helpful.
  14. Ok ok, I know this may be a dumb question, but where is the aeriel on a mk1? ;) I was looking closely at the rear last window on the drivers side and I can see some very thin wires like on the rear heater window. Am I right in thinking that's the aerial? Does anyone know where the best place would be to put a DAB aerial on the Gal? ;) Thanks
  15. djacks, ok I went to check out that galaxy & it was in a right state. It had been rear ended and bought back from the insurance company after a right-off. I did manage to nab the visors off it! hehehe.. both vanity ones. I was going to nab the alloys but obviously the guy wasn't gonna let them go for peanuts.. I checked the rear light cluster and it has been cracked in various places with the plastic missing. It's a ghia too. Well the guys just simply going to break it for parts and flog them on ebay. I didn't bother with the alloys in the end. Just thought I'd save the cash for some 17's.
  16. Well I suppose if you have access to another car from a friend, etc.. Park your car next to his/her's at the same distance from a wall. Make sure you are both on a flat surface. Switch on your lights and try to adjust your headlights as near to the pattern of the other car. Make sure the distance of both cars is the same from the wall. My 406's pattern is like this: \_____ \_____ I just tried to make my Galaxy as close to that as possible. Hope this helps..
  17. vr6, as they say "You da man!!"
  18. Hello, I was looking at the beam on my Galaxy & the passenger side needs to be lowered a little. On the actual light housing there is a little symbol that says: =D 12% Now I I know that on some cars the housing has a little Alan key adjustment. Is there a way on the Galaxy to adjust the headlamp housing like this? Thanks
  19. You can see my tints here :D As you can see the front 2 windows are tinted. I only drive my Galaxy on private land, so if you are driving on a public road be aware that the front 2 windows have to let in 75% of light. Otherwise Mr PC Plod will stop you and pull out his light meter to check the level of light.
  20. OH MY GOD, that Intapart place was closed to the public today!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! When I got there they said it was some kind of open day for company members and that the general public was not allowed. :( I was like whaaaaaaaaaa? What a waste of petrol.. The guy did say that they would have at least a few sets of sun visors. I'm gonna have to go there tomorrow if I get time. Those Seat blankers came, they fitted nicely but I reckon the guy on ebay is gettin them from VW adding his profit and sticking them on a "buy it now". Mugs like me end up paying over the odds. :(
  21. Forget going the other way!, I think those alloys suit the Gal nicely or I'll see what those Audi RS6 style alloys look like on it. Hmm I should have known someone in the forum would have had turbine style alloys.. aah well I'm gonna goto that Intapart place now so I'll let everyone know what they've got.. :D
  22. Hello, I'm now thinking about lowering my Gal. I want it to look like this but I don't know if it's worth lowering if I added some 17's? Also are there any alloys that anyone would know of that are like the ones in my modded pic. I have been lookin around for some 112 x 5 fitment ones in that style, but I have had no luck. :D
  23. Ok I managed to take a few pics today. If anyone wants to know what limo black would look like on the Gal, check the pics out. The HIDs are fitted, but I'm not too sure if the pattern is correct. The passenger side is more sharper than the drivers side. I'll have to check that tomorrow. I'm still gonna goto that Intapart place and see what they have got. Any ideas on some alloys? I suppose I would prefer 17's as 18" tyres are over my budget.. Anyway, here are the pics: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4
  24. vr6, hmm that's not a bad idea... I'm also thinkin about a dual tail pipe at the back because the bumper has like a curved cut. I'll take some pics and experiment in photoshop.. But after getting limo black tint at the back, it is pretty hard reversing at night, but I suppose if I had a van, it would have been the same situation. Those seat socket covers I ordered from that bloke on ebay haven't arrived yet, but I need to 4 more I have 5 seats at the back.. Time to goto the VW parts dpt..
