thanx for all the replies. I have checked for a spark and there is no spark. Also I can't smeel the burning when i open the bonnet or near the central junction box. Could it be something to do with the air con? In my car i have VW Climatronic and the back air con is colder than the frontair con on LO setting(although the display doesn't indicate a fault) . I have recently replaced the coil pack, so when it doesn't start i don't think it would be that. I will try and fix my key this weekend. Thanks for the help.

My 1999 2.8 Ghia X is giving me some real problems at the moment and I wondered if anybody actually new how to fix my problems as the ford dealers don't seem to know. I have tried an independant garage and the electrical specialist there said it was a fuel pump relay, and then he changed the engine immobilisasion relay costing me 28 quid B) (which seems a bit on the expensive side) for a relay i didn't even need. My first problem is that it keeps on cutting out and then not starting. The engine cranks fine but it does not fire. Then, if you leave it for a while it will start. B) I don't think it is the Crank Position Sensor because when it runs it runs perfect, there is no loss of power or anything. My Second one is with the remote key locking. It will never open via the remote key first time, you have to press the button lots of times, but it always locks perfectly, i have tried to re-synchronise the key and the reciever with that method where you have to turn the key three times in the door and then press the buttons on your key, it never works! My third problem is that whenever i am driving even with the aircon off i can smell a burning coming from the air vents. I think there is a relay not working properly causing my first problem and this one because the relays have got some sort of insulation inside them haven't they? and i think this is making the burning smell and the knackered relay is causing my engine stop problem. i am taking the under shield off at the weekend to have a look at the crank angle sensor and it's wiring. wish me luck <_<

both times i was not far from home, the last time it shuddered and all cylinders cut out then it picked up again. sometimes it does the shuddering thing when i am driving and doesn't cut out. It's a mystery <_<

I have a 1999 2.8 Ghia X galaxy and i can not find relay 30 in my manual or in the haynes. i was wondering if somebody could tell me what and where relay 30 is. thanx

My 1999 2.8 Ghia X cut out yesterday. I was not far from home, and i was pulling off from some traffic lights, and the engine just cut out. I rolled into a lay-by, tried to start it up again, no joy. I left it a few hours and then i went and tried to start it again. Started no probs. Drove it home. When I went to try and start it this morning it would not start. I have recently changed the coil pack. Any help appreciated.

Can anyone suggest a possible source( other than a Main Dealer) for an HT coil pack for a V6 - or are they repairable ?

On my 1999(t) ghiaX 2.8 V6 the display sometimes falshes and always it makes the hissing noise. If the hissing noise is definately coming from the vent then it may be one of the electronic vents is stuck. On my galaxy the noise comes from under the glove box and is continous whilst the air con is turned on. If i press ECON the noise fades away.

Where is the non-return valve? I can't find anything about it on the TIS cd?

Oil used was GTX protection plus 5W30-is this ok? What do you mean by grade SL?

My 2.8i Ghia X (T) recently went in for a services. On mine they actually changed the oil but seem to have put a thinner one in. If you have the TIS cd there is a list of galaxy engines in there (workshop manuals). Click on your engine and click general specification. It should be listed somewhere in there. good Luck :D

Before I got my galaxy i had a peugot 405, it had the same problem. It ran OK at high revs but approaching junctions/roundabouts or when it was idleing it would stall. I managed to cope with this by using the handbrake to slow down so I could always keep my foot on the throttle. When I took it to a garage they said it was the engine management computer. I had the 'black box' replaced and it still runs perfectley as far as I know. p.s just a possibility. :D

Hi Darren! My 2.8i 1999 (T) knocks on startup, but only after being left for approx. 10 hours. Is this similar to your problem? does anyone else have this problem or know what it is? P.S This has become worse since the car was serviced using 5W/30 engine oil. :D
