Help For My Gal Please
latrine replied to latrine's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thank you both for your entertaining comments - not quite sure how it will assist my Gal, but never mind Anyway, does anyone know if the slight overfilling of oil can cause the proplem i'm now experinencing? What does resetting of the ECU actually do and may it cure my Gal? cheers -
Help For My Gal Please

if i rest the ECU, presumably simply by disconnecting the battery, can this have any effect? are there any dangers in this step, other than forgetting your radio code!? -
Hi there I have a 2001 (Y-reg) 1.9 tdi 115 bhp Had a routine service last week and there is now a noticible drop in power, at lower revs, i.e. up to 2000rpm; also a considerable drop in power up hills unless i change down gears to keep the revs >2000 Have unplugged the MAF and the problem is worse, so i gather this means no problems with the MAF I seem to recall reading on this forum that if the garage has overfilled the oil, then this may cause the prolbems i am now experiencing I've also seen posts re checking the air filter and various hoses, etc but exactly what should i be checking for with the air filter and which hoses should i be checking? any photos would be great thanks i'm amazed by the expertise displayed on this forum, so hopefully osme of you guys can help me out?! please cheers all

Where Is The Pollen Filter?

Ivor did you manage to change the pollen filter? was it easy once you had removed the wipers and central grill? I had a go yesterday, but from underneath the wiper linkages, by removing the bulkhead tray - however, this proved to be a complete nightmare! I couldn't get the thing past the wiper motor, something just kept getting stuck and it wouldn't come out!! I've got cuts and grazes to my hands and wrists to prove it - there a a damn view sharp clips and stuff under there! cheers mate -

Hi - needed a top up of oil and checked out the various threads on this forum Decided to look for some of that Millers stuff and their website directed me to my nearest suppliers, here in Sheffield Went there but they don't stock it! However, i was pursuaded to take a can of Carlube Triple R 5w-40 which appears to match the required viscosity for my 115 tdi However, i note it is suitable for the VW 505.00 spec - the 505.01 is not mentioned. Am i ok with this oil? I've only used 1/2 litre to top up but bought a 5 litre can as the old Gal is due a service in a couple of months I have complete confidence in an accurate response to this thread - your knowledge astounds me!!!

Rob - sorry for the delay in replying the electric sockets are located on a thin metal plate sandwiched between the towball and the mounting which the towball bolts onto it is probably only 1.5 - 2mm thin the towball is obviously mounted right in the middle of the bumper and does not/should not interfere with the rear sensors however, the electric sockets on mine are located to one side (it can vary depedning upon the manufaturers/fitters) and they seemed to be interfering with the sensors albeit on an intermittent basis i therefore applied gentle pressue to the electic sockets, thereby slightly bending the thin plate upon which they are mounted, bending it back towards the bumper slightly in the hope that they would be moved outsside of the field of the sensors i'm pleased to say it worked erfectly and now neither the towball or the electric sockets interfere with the sensers if you want any more info, don't hesitate to ask mate
-
Lil'Rob mine's a fixed towbar and when first fitted i had an intermittant problem with the sensors however, i very sliughtly bent the electric sockets a little closer to the bumper and have never had any problems since my snesors give the continuos tone when about 12 inch from the object, the towbar is a lttle nearer at about 7 inch away, so in answer to your question, i get the continous beep before anything hits, although not that much of a safety net!

Hi I've jsut had one fitted by A1 towbars in Sheffield -

.. has hit me i think! my passenger electric window has suddenly stopped working - there were no warning signs or noises or anything - it just stopped working, either from the swtich on the passenger door or the switch on the driver's door if thw switch was faulty on either the passenger or driver door would this prevent operation from both switches? if i press either switch in the 'up/close' direction i can hear a small click (and the interior light dims slightly) so i suspect the motor is trying to operate but can't as the window is already closed however, no such noise/dimming when i try to open the window any ideas anyone? chhers LAtrine!

...nothing too serious (just yet!) my wipers don't sweep quite to the vertical (i've looked a t other Gals and noticed they do have quite a large sweep area) however they sweep back to the horizontal start point and keep going slightly below the horizontal before returning bak to the horizontal no problem with slow speed or anythink (as appears to be a common problem) just the poor sweep area, i.e. less than vertical can anyone help or advise as to how to fix the problem, and is it an easy job? cheers all!
-
Thanks for the advice Bubbles! not too hot on the electrics front and don't possess a multi meter, let alone know how to operate/understand one! trouble is, if i do follow your advice, then whilst i'm happy to stand the

i've a feeling it's been there or thereabouts however, i thouhgt it was supposed to come on if the coolant was below a certain temperature - or is it that both criteria has to be met, not either?

-
ok mate, thanks for all your advice on this!
-
Auusie Phil thanks for the photos mate, looks a nice neat job and you say there is no interferecne with the parking sensors one thing i note is that there doesn't appear to be much clearance between the ball and the bumper - the hand book (as far as i recall) suggests a gap of 80mm presuambly you tow a cravan with the bar (hence twin electrics) - have you ever had any problems hithcing it up at all? do you have a stabaliser fitted on the van? cheers bruce! M
-
Ausie Phil, where did you have your towbar fitted mate?

Cheers Steve I would be grateful for a picture by the way, where in the country do you live? L
