After 4.5 years of trouble filled motoring in my 1995 2.0i GLX Galaxy, I have finally defected to the Citroen Xsara Picasso. Thank you to all who have helped with my issues over these past few years - you can find me now at citroenpicasso.org.uk ;) BYE

New 2006 Galaxy
faded-fish replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It looks to me like aircon reliability will be a much bigger issue with all those extra windows!!! Or maybe it will be a great place to grow your tomatoes :D -
I have a 10 disc Kenwood changer under the drivers seat (unsecured but it works fine) - I can't see the 12 disc being much bigger. BTW - A woman went into a pub and asked for a double-entendre, so the barman gave her one!

I have no idea - I've only had the car since February this year. I think I prefer the option of changing the brake fluid over the master cylinder :)

The pedal has been soft for a while. On the 2 occasions that it happened yesterday the pedal just failed completely - nothing there - but came back with a "pump" on the pedal. I had been using the brakes a little more than usual a little earlier (fast run along the bypass with heavy braking at the roundabouts).

I have noticed that when I press the horn button on my galaxy, the dash lights go out! They come back on when the horn is released. Has anybody else had/got this problem? If so, what is likely to be causing it?

Yesterday the brakes on my Galaxy failed completely twice - lifting off the pedal and reapplying brought them back on both occasions. Has anybody else had this problem and found a simple solution? I had thought that it could be one of the following: Air in the system Breakdown of brake fluid Worn pads Jiggered master cylinder Of all of these I am hoping for one of the top two. Any advice will be much appreciated.

I have a 2.0 and the RPMs are exactly the same - 3500 at 70mph in 5th gear. It's the highest reving engine I've ever had to contend with. Has anybody tried changing the gearbox on one of these? I'm sure that must have a detrimental effect on fuel economy at speed - how about a mod to make 5th gear a real overdrive?

I've had no problems with my air con - I don't have any!!!

Global Window Closing
faded-fish replied to wazza's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
On the Mk 1 this works from all key operated doors (if they are connected - my passenger door lock has disconnected - any advice on how to fix?) Also, I have noticed that my sunroof will close with the global closure but it will not open with global opening - is this normal? -
Speakers Mk 1 Galaxy
faded-fish replied to bowman's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Great set of speakers - i have them in my Gal Mk1. Don't bother trying to fit with the grilles on as they wont fit behind the door card :D (see the post referenced above). If (like me) you are not too keen on cutting the original connectors off, go to your local independant ICE supplier and get some of these: http://img197.echo.cx/img197/8265/picture00926lm.jpg They are speaker connection converters and I got 4 of these from RCA Cheadle for -

Does Anybody Know What This Is?
faded-fish replied to faded-fish's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks - that sound sensible. Can you tell me where these lights go, where I can get them and how they are fitted? :) -
This only applies to the Mk II - If you leave the grilles on a Mk I you will knock the original (plastic) grille off (though you may not know this until you get to the passenger side as the driver's door appears to have a bit more clearance!) Also, leaving the grilles on for the rear door speakers is impossible as the grille gets in the way of the door card clip hole as can be seen in the image below <_< http://img299.echo.cx/img299/1562/picture00969sc.jpg

Good luck with that - I don't hold out too much hope though :(

SeatKid - My wipers only work on the slower speed - could this be the problem? If so, where can I find this Electronic Control Module?

Speaker Connections

Quandry solved  I've gone for the Sony XS-F1734s. The price swayed me - RRP -
Speaker Connections
faded-fish replied to faded-fish's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Thanks for the quick reply I was afraid that might be the response. I've been deliberating over which speakers to get and am torn between the Kenwood KFC-1729C and Sony XS-F1734. The Sony ones are 3 way with a higher power rating and wider frequency response than the Kenwoods which are only 2 way, but the Kenwoods have an Easy Fit connector which claims to accept most European OME connectors. I was swaying toward the Kenwoods because the best price I found was a bit less than the Sonys, but today I found the Sonys at a cheaper price - OH THE QUANDRY  -
Somebody is bound to know the answer to this  Is there a Ford specific connector for the factory fit speakers or do they use the standard blade connectors? I just want to know so that I have all the neccesary tools & equipment when I take the door cards off. Any help would be much appreciated.

Where To Install Cd Changer
faded-fish replied to faded-fish's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Well I've found out that the 6 CD changer I bought doesn't work  so I've bought a 10 CD changer to replace it. This means that installation in the rear cubby hole is definitely out (unit is too big) so I've opted for fitting under the drivers seat. I have two questions... Are there any delicate items (eg brake pipes, fuel lines etc) directly under the drivers seat that I should be making sure I don't drill through? Are there any special things I should do when screwing the brackets to the floor (eg sealants)? any help most appreciated. PS - if anybody is interested in the duff 6 CD changer for spares or repair give me a shout. The changer is a Kenwood KDC-C462 and has the original lead and brackets [no screws though]. It also has the cd cartridge but this is stuck in the machine - I believe the loading motor has seized) If nobody is interested I'll be putting it up on ebay the week after next (try to recoup some costs!) -
From what I recall at about 55mph, approximately half of your fuel consumption is to combat wind resistance (any faster and the wind resistance consumption is greater still). That is why the Americans have/had a 55mph speed limit - it was set during one of their many oil shortages to economise. Getting a Tdi would be my preference for increasing mpg, but if you're on a low budget (as I was/am) affordable models are like rocking horse manure  (very rare!!!) and if you do find one, it will either be sold before it hits the forecourt or it will have travelled half way across the galaxy!!!

Power Cable Route?
faded-fish replied to wonkydog's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
I don't fancy your chances with fitting them - Infinity speakers are very deep. Let us know how you get on. (WRT mounting depth - I think anything deeper that 50mm is likely to need some spacers to fit) -

Can you tell us what speakers you go for and how easy/hard a job it is to swap them? :)
