Galaxy Ghia 2.8 Auto Questions
kebrina replied to satphil's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
I've got a 52 plate v6 auto. My controls for the cruise control are on the steering wheel, not the stalk. The controls on my stalk are for the trip computer, but don't sound the same as yours. I think (IIRC) I have to press the '+' button (on the steering wheel) to maintain the speed I am travelling at. Haven't used it for a while though, so might be mistaken. Am taking our first holiday trip in it later this week, so am expecting to use it a lot! -
Mine's an auto and it gets to 4th gear quite nicely, hits fifth if I maintain the speed. Fuel consumption dictates I drive very sedately, but I feel my car changes gears in a most timely fashion. I haven't had it out on the motorway yet, but this is all school run stuff.

Oddly one of mine opens, but not the other - any reason why that might be?

Where Can I Get A Door Sensor From?
kebrina replied to kebrina's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
I assume you mean by sensor you mean door light switch ! if so it will be a dealer part Radiotwo I don't know if it operates the light - probably does (they all come on when I unlock it anyway - so wouldn't know), but if you open the door it doesn't show on the dash that the door is open - like it does for all other doors. It's the small rubber covered thing at the base of the door, away from the hinges. Do I really have to go direct to Ford? -
O/S Rear door sensor is knackered. Desperately need to fix/replace as it's the first door we open to get the kids in and I'm fed up of the car relocking itself and then sounding its alarm because we've not opened a different door for it to recognise! Help PLEASE!! :)

I know. It's tear inducing. But it's the ONLY thing I hate about the car. That and the incessant problem with the DVD player. But that will one day be resolved. For now I just don't look at the dash when the engine's switched on, otherwise I can't see through the welling up in my eyes and may inadvertently drive over other people's children. Or mine, depending on whether they've been strapped down yet.

Sat Nav & Autochanger Compatability
kebrina replied to kebrina's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Updated pin count. The male din coming off the dvd is 8 pin, whilst the female socket on the nav unit is 10 pin. Any ideas? -
Tell the kids to walk......lazy little ......s Ahem, the eldest (of three) is three. And it's five miles to school. When did you last do a ten mile round trip. Twice.

Sat Nav & Autochanger Compatability
kebrina replied to kebrina's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Right - update. My dad says there is a 'spare' din lead coming out of the changer that is not connected to anything, yet it still plays sound and vision to the DVD screens and headphone sockets. Will connecting this din lead to the head unit make it fully functional? If so, where can I get a converter from one size din lead to another? The head unit is a ten pin thingy whilst the 'spare' plug is different. Not checked it myself yet, but will update with pin count later. -

Sat Nav & Autochanger Compatability
kebrina replied to kebrina's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Ahem, less of the his, I am a her. I've just had my dad take the car to bits to have a good look at what's going on. (He's an auto electrician, so has a vague idea...) The front head unit is not connected in any shape or form to the CD changer, so I'm going to buy that cable you suggested and hope it fits. All I want is CD and DVD sound to go through the speakers - so I can either play a CD or have the DVD sound for everyone to hear. (I'm not happy with my two year old playing with potentially strangling headphones.) Will that do the job? My dad says it will need an adaptor of some sort, but doesn't know what it would be called, to go from the autochanger to the head unit. At present I can get the changer to play music and film, but only to the screens and headphones in the back. Any further advice or info gratefully received. Not sure what the adaptor parts look like, so I hope they are cheap!!! -

There's no DVD player there, just controls for the screens and volume, with four headphone sockets. The 8 DVD changer is in the side flappy thing in what one might call the boot. Are you saying it should have a VIDEO player? Does anyone even make vids anymore? -

Right, I've tried the CD thingy you said, it still insists the CD is not compatible and instructs to to insert one for the Ford Radio Navigation MFD. Whatever that means. Thanks for all the other stuff though, will try reading it all through later. mwah x -

Nope, not if its connected to the ford media unit as there is no link between then - you can get adaptors however so you could do it quite easily. Sounds like you have the nav unit in nav mode which is why its saying incompatible - you need to change the source to CD firsr else it will try and read it as a nav disk It won't let me select CD in the source screen, it's there, but greyed out. -

I'm confused... you can't have a dvd changer surely just a player? If thats the case then its wired correctly and sounds like someones changed the factory vhs player for a dvd player - the ford multimedia unit it independant of the audio unit and the sound is only put out to the headphone sockets. The unit in the dash should play conventional cd's though just fine though. Really? I can't get it play CDs it just keeps saying it's incompatible. The Panasonic 8 DVD changed in the boot plays ANYTHING CDs MP3s, DVDs the works, but only to the built in DVD players in the back of the front seats. Surely it can play to the stereo/speakers? -
Right, I've got a 52 plate Galaxy Ghia, with the CD Rom thingy in the centre dash for the sat nav. There's a dvd changer in the boot, which plays to the DVD screens, and sends sounds to the headphones sockets - but nowhere else. I've found an online manual for the changer, can anyone find one for the factory fitted sat nav system? Failing that does anyone know if this has just been wired up wrong, or if there is a serious incompatibility issue? Surely I can get music CDs in the autochanger to play through the stereo??? (Even though I think using the remote control whilst driving must be a bad idea). Crikey, I had assumed the CD in the dash was for proper CDs but it only wants a Ford CD Rom. I'll never use the Sat Nav, so is it an option to totally remove the panel and fit something with a proper CD in it? Sorry for all the questions but I want CDs on, and I can't make the damned thing work! x

It's not on all the time, it's not flashing. It comes on mid journey (not all journeys) and stays on until I switch off. It's gone when I switch back on, and may or may not return that day. Any ideas? The ABS was recently repaired... 28.l V6 Auto 52 plate. Ta. x

I initially wanted a diesel, but there were pros and cons to both. I guess I didn't realise exactly how much worse the mpg was with the petrol, but we live and learn. I imagine I'll keep hold of it for as long as my purse can bear the petrol costs, then sell it on. Gutted, because otherwise, it's a stunning car. The sat nav thingy came with all the discs, and I can make that work, but it's not something I imagine I'll get much use out of. I had assumed that I could put audio cds in the same slot, and they would play, but it doesn't seem to work. I've filled the autochanger though, and it spins up, and skips discs if I use the remote, but I can't find any dash controls, and it doesn't play them to the stereo. I've not tried fiddling with the dvd screens in the back yet... maybe they hold the key. The skip forward/backward buttons on the steering wheel look worn though - so they must do something. ;) -

You super star you. Now I can be absolutely horrified everytime I stop in traffic. Just got to work out how the sodding autochanger gets through to the stereo now. Can't believe the CD in the dash isn't for audio discs! Big fat 'mwah' to you.
