  1. Hi, I am thinking about putting a single slot cd in my car, however the powered aerial thing keeps raising it's head on the forum. What are the problems associated with this?? I don't want to buy a new head unit and then spend a fortune on a new wiring harness etc. I currently have a 2006R radio cassette and am aware that I may need an ISO adaptor, however will I need to do more to sort the aerial. Thanks for any info!! Mussey1.
  2. Does anyone else have this problem?? Every time there is even a light frost the locks freeze. Think that in trying to get the door unlocked I may have broken the spring on the barrel i.e when I used to either lock or unlock the doors, as soon as I stopped putting presure on the key the barrel would kind of spring back to the 12 O'Clock position enabling the key to be removed. Now I have to manually turn the key back to the 12 O'Clock postion, with the result that it can take a few tries to get the key out if it is not aligned correctly. Can the springs be reconnected??, or am I talking a load of bull!! Thanks. Mussey1
  3. How often should the pollen filter be changed?? Once a year or should it be mileage based?? Thanks. Mussey1.
  4. It your car is a MK1 Zetec, then it will not have remote locking. My locks froze twice over the Christmas holidays, it's a real pain. The VW locks don't seem too good!! Mussey1
  5. Do all Galaxies of this age have isofix? Where are the locking points on the seats? Can u post a photo? Thanks. Mussey1
  6. Have a look at a device called Mighty Tight (www.sunshinekids.co.uk). It is sold at Halfords for approx
  7. I would also get it fixed, ABS can come in very useful at this time of year!! Before I bought my Galaxy I was considering a VX Zafira 1.6 Comfort (yr 2000 model) with only 17000 miles, however did not buy because it had no ABS. By the way I do not condone the trick with the fuel light, I would get it fixed!! Good luck! Mussey1. B)
  8. I know of someone who had a Vectra with an airbag fault, meaning that the airbag light stayed permanently lit. In order to pass the MOT they removed the connections on the back of the light and reconnected the low fuel warning light wires instead. When the ignition is turned on the low fuel light often illuminates for a number of seconds until the guage rises far enough. Therefore at MOT time switch ignition on ABS light will illuminate briefly and then go out. Mussey1
  9. Or will this work...remote locking upgrade kit from www.vagparts.com. This one apparently does audi A2,A3 & A4
  10. I have found a Microscan scl300 remote locking upgrade at the following site for
  11. Quetion for KevinP, How did you attach the cradle to the dash? Did you use a facia bracket or screw the cradle directly to the dash? Also where did you place the control box? Thanks. Mussey1.
  12. I had to spray both locks and handles with wd40. The locks had got pretty gritty and the handles were starting to get stiff over the last few months. It really has helped. However I cannot even get the key into the lock on the tailgate. I don't think it has been ever been used and has seized up. Anyone else have this problem. P.S. - My last car a '98 Passat had to have three door locks replaced at a cost of
  13. If you sprinkle some talcum powder around where the leak is coming in and then soak the car with hosepipe, any drip or run of water will leave a trace behind. I once had a Cavalier that leaked in the boot and I used this method. It worked!! Was a bit messy though!! By the way does yours have a sunroof?? It could be a blocked drainage channel causing water to run down the inside of the 'A' pillar. Good Luck. Mussey1.
  14. Hughie, Try Nokian NRH2 tyres. Approx
  15. Had a frost this morning. Heated front screen worked fine. Also had the tick tick and turbine noise from rear heater, so I'm pleased to know that everything appears to be working!! Mussey1.
  16. Anyone know how long it takes for the heated front screen to clear condensation etc. I used mine last night, but it seemed to take ages. I am assuming it is working as when I switched it on the interior/dashboard lights dimmed slightly due to the power draw. Is it mean't to work as quickly as the rear screen? Also according to the manual they are supposed to switch off after 4 minutes. Is this true?? Thanks. Mussey1.
  17. Zork, The figures in your handbook are in lb/In, I think this is what the guage on tyre inflators at the garages use. I have mine tyres at approx 35 fron 37/38 back. Mussey1.
  18. I have driven at 80mph++ (overtaking of course!!) and the balancing has been fine, no wobble or shaking at all. I have not seen any tyre tests in the press for Nokian tyres, however as they are mainly made for the Scandanavian market I would imagine that they are pretty good in the wet. A good buy especially for those North of the Watford Gap!!!!! Mussey1.
  19. In reply to Simon D, I put on 4 Nokian NRH2 215/55/16 tyres in April and am very happy with them. They seem to be wearing well are quiet and seem good in the wet. They also have a unique tyre wear indicator, with the amount of tread left stamped along the centre of the tyre, easy to see what is left at any time!! People have also commented that they 'look good'?? They cost me 65 quid each fitted. Made in Finland, so at least they are not far eastern rubbish!! I also think that they are quite popular in North America. Worth a look - www.nokiantyres.com P.S - If they do ultimately turn out to be crap I will let you know!! Mussey 1. :D
  20. I changed the heater control bulb in my Zetec TDI last week. Prise off the heater surround (it can be done without removing the radio) and and remove the clear plastic light diffuser. You should see the bulb below the rotary controls between the heat and air position control. There is a small plastic tab holding the bulb and holder in place. Press this with a small screwdriver and pull the bulb and holder out. The bulb and holder are one unit so you have to buy the bulb from your main dealer. I was quoted over
  21. I have a 2000 W Zetec (Old Shape) TDI 110. The steering on mine also makes a strange noise when turning right. I have also found that it seems worse if I happen to slip the clutch when emerging from a side road etc. However it only seems to occur when the car has just been started and the engine is cold. Once the engine is warm it stops. I thought it may have been a CV joint, but as it seems to stop it must be something else. Does yours act in a similar manner?? Mussey1 ;)
  22. I changed the rear pads on mine a few weeks ago, not too difficult. You do not have to touch the handbrake as it is self-adjusting and all linkages etc. are attached to the caliper. I also need to change my rear discs at 67000 mls. Looks easy enough, although I have heard that the 8mm hexagon screws that hold on the caliper carrier can be a bugger to remove. Remember it is advisable to bleed the brake fluid from the caliper nipple as any debris in the old fluid may play havoc with the ABS sesor unit. I would add however that I have spoken to a VW mechanic and was told that they would not normally bleed the fluid when changing pads, even though it is recommended!!!!!!! Up to you! Mussey1 :(
  23. I have noticed that most Alhambra models have speakers for the two rear seats. Is it easy to retro fit these to an old shape Galaxy 2000 (W) Zetec, i.e is wiring already there and are holes for speakers marked in the trim etc. Thanks. Mussey1
  24. As far as I am aware, the vents in the boot space only operate when the rear heater (controls on roof) is on. The vents behind the handbrake should work to heat the middle row of seats. Mussey1
  25. Similar noise described in a previous thread 'Knocking Noise'. Apparently caused by a loose radiator. Mussey1
