Hi All, Had my windscreen replaced on Saturday due to a tiny chip on the passenger side. Could not be repaired as apparently it is not possible to drill into the heated windscreen. When the job was finished the chap told be that I may notice the wipers were sitting slightly higher than normal and that they had adjusted them to increase the sweep on the drivers side. He told me that 'as a company' RAC auto windscreens set the wipers like that on Shalaxies when replacing the windscreen. The result is that the wiper now sweeps to within 1.5" to 2" from the A pillar. I do however have straight wiper blades that I bought in Halfords which also help. To sum up then for MK1 owners ..... Buy the stright blades from Halfords and go to RAC auto windscreens to get the wipers adjusted. I will post a photo over the next few days so you can see the difference! Mussey1.

I was in Fraud dealer today and noticed a post facelift Zetec TDI on sale for 14k.(only 25,000 mls). Guess what?? ... Bubbling and corroding mirrors!!! I asked the dealer if the mirrors were covered under warranty and was advised to visit their body shop so they could have a look. I will do that this week and let you know. Mussey1.

Hi Turbo, Sounds like a good idea on yours as the car is already metallic black. Mine is melina blue, so it may look a bit strange or DIY if you know what I mean. I was thinking of using matt or satin black paint, I think you can get it for black alloy wheels etc. If threr are any better solutions or if the struts can be replaced at a reasonable cost I'd love to know. I assume this problem is not be covered under the 6 year paint warranty?? Mussey1.

Hi All, I have seen some mention of the bubbling/corroding (similar to corrosion on alloy wheels) of the metal strut that attaches the door mirror onto the car. This has started to happen on my car and I have seen this on many other Shalaxy vehicles!! Do many others out there have the same problem? I put it down to the amount of salt during the winter months. I was thinking of taking them off and repainting, however I notice that the original finish has a slight texture....is there a particular paint available for this? Finally I noticed that on some cars the mirror struts seem to be made of glossy plastic..I saw this on a 97/98 Sharan. When did they stop making them like this and if so can the struts be replaced by plastic ones?? Any help appreciated. Mussey1.

Turbo Lag/driveline Shunt

Had a look at the air filter housing, It appears that I may be missing a clip on the back of the housing, as I assume there are meant to be three clips. Could this be enough to cause any problems?? Does the Maf have to come off to get to the filter? Haynes says to loosen the screws holding the MAF onto the filter housing body, but I think they are tamperproof Torx type. Also is 60k the right time to change the filter, I had always thought filters were changed about once per year!! Is it better to change them more often? Mussey1. -
Bushm, Just to let you know before I fitted the system myself I phoned a few auto electricians to get quotes for fitting the system. The only reply I got was that it was a really complex job and that door panels had to be removed etc etc.... Not so.. If you buy a system for approx

Hi All, On my car I sometimes get a very slight hesitation when accelerating from about 2000rpm. This normally occurs only when the engine has reached normal operating temp. I know that it's not the Maf as according to the service records it was replaced just prior to me buying the car @ 60,000mls and the car pulls like a train up to the red line (not that I get the chance to do that often!!!). Is this a normal characterisitic of the 110 diesel engine?? Other than that the car runs really well. Any comments? Thanks. Mussey1.

LOZ, I posted a message regarding CV joints, had to have passenger side joint replaced just before Christmas. Look under topic 'Considering an Import' in Questions about the Galaxy forum. If you need any more info just ask!! Cheers! Mussey1.

Got the job done on Saturday in between the snow showers. Only took a couple of hours.. quite straightforward only needed the four wires, no need for indicator wires etc. Global closure also works. Able to do all the wiring from the fusebox, however I gad to take it out to get better access. Didn't use scotchlocks as I was told they can be unreliable.. better to slightly strip the wire and use insulation tape. Now that I have done the job if anyone needs any help just give me a shout and I'll try to be of assistance. The cobra system is good.. I would recommend it!!!!! Mussey1.

Coding A Sharan Remote Key Fob
Mussey1 replied to dfh101's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Does your Sharan have a seperate remote fob or is it built into the key? Is it a votex alarm that you have as opposed to simple remote locking?? Mussey1. -
Removed the lower half of the facia and a look in and around the fusebox for the connector that I need to find, apparently it is a green connector labelled P6. Does anyone know if this is in the fusebox or is it hidden behind i.e will a need to take the fusebox out? Any help appreciated. Mussey1. :)

Hi All, Just bought a Cobra 1046 remote locking system and need some advice on fitting. I believe on my car 2000 (W) Zetec TDI 110 .. the CDL is in the fusebox am I right? Also the wires I think I need are : 1) Grey - Unlock 2) Green/Red - Lock I assume I don't need to worry about ignition wires etc.. Also because the car already flashes the indicators when locked/unlocked with the key I assume I don't need to connect the yellow wires from the remote system to the flashers. The only thing I am not sure about is the connection of the wire for global closing. On the remote system the wire is Brown/White -- what do I connect this to on the car? <_< Any help appreciated. Thanks. Mussey1.

Heated Windscreen Connectors Location?
Mussey1 replied to MrT's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If you have windscreen cover on your insurance it may be worthwhile finding out if they will cover a new screen. I think the connectors may be behind the plastic covers on the 'A' pillars, but I will have a look at the haynes manual tonight. Mussey1. P.s. I knew a chap whose car failed MOT because of a line marked in the windscreen by the wiperblades. Insurance would not cover this, however a few days later a brick 'accidentally' smashed the screen and a new one was put in courtesy if the insurance company. Unethical I know. By the way it wasn't me!!! Mussey1. -
Heated Windscreen Connectors Location?
Mussey1 replied to MrT's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Did you replace the screen yourself or was it done by a reputable winsdcreen company? Did the heater on the old screen work? Mussey1. -
Hi, Does this mean that even the straight blades from halfords (

Mind you I think the heated front screen makes up for the slight loss of visibility. In this weather it is simply brilliant. Should be standard on all cars!! .... I rarely see other brands offering it even as an option.. apart from SEAT & VW on the shalaxy models. I wonder why?? I'm sure SA Intruder or Ivor can enlighten us. Mussey1.

By the way ... do the facelift cars have the screen washer nozzle on the wiper arms or on the bonnet???? Mussey1.

Dave, How many miles do you have on your car? I had to replace n/s outer cv on mine @ 70k, mind you when I bought the car 9 months earlier with 65k I knew the joint was on its way out as it sometimes clicked for a few miles until the car warmed up. Total cost was approx

Thanks for the help!! Everything is now working, swapping the wires worked for the ignition---next time I'll not work in the dark, might make it easier. Even the aerial amplifier was not too much of a problem, although I had to use two adaptors to fit it .... one onto the end of the existing aerial lead to fit onto the body of the amplifier and one onto the other end on the amplifier to allow it to fit into the head unit. Had to put plenty of insulatin tape on all the joins as I found that they came apart when trying to push all the wires back into the dash. Mussey1. :D

Ivor, Just checked mine.....If I have the rear heater going and I switch on the front screen the rear heater stops/illumination goes out on the switch. I don't know if this is normal on the Mk1 TDi. I wonder if anyone else with a Mk1 can ckeck this!!!! Mussey1.

Put in new head unit this evening to replace 2006r. Did not need adaptor as ISO plugs already there. Adaptor cost

Hi vikingdel, Just a thought, the heated front screen will not work if the rear heating is switched on at the same time. Good luck. Mussey1.
