  1. Koro, In my car the unlock wire in the loom is GREEN/REDnot solid Green. It may be different in yours. Mussey1.
  2. Koro, The galaxy has a 'Positive' locking system, it may mention that in your wiring instructions. You may find that there are other wires that you need to connect to the red live wire. In my case the purple/white and orange/white from the remote module had to be joined together and then connected to the postitive. Mussey1.
  3. Just stick a VW badge in it's place!! Mussey1
  4. koro, When you remove the lower dash you will see a main earthing point. This is a nut with loads of different earth leads attached to it. I used a crimping tool and attached a 'u' or horseshoe type connector to the end of the the earth wire from my remote locking module, slackened the nut on the earthing point, slid in the connector and tightened the nut again. Took about 1 minute!! The earth point is behind the dash in the general area circled in red in the attached photo. Mussey1.
  5. Alistair, 1) Connector circled in red contains central locking wires.. Grey(Lock) Green/Red(Unlock) 2) White clips circled in green need to be removed to allow fusebox to be released. There is enough slack in the cables to allow you to get to the rear of the box. 3) Cable grip circled in blue also needs to be undone to give you better access to wires, when you have removed the green connector from its socket. 4) Insulation tape circled in yellow shows where I tapped wire for positive feed. Remember it it is better to remove the lower dash before you start as it will give you better access to the earth connections and space to mount the remote module. If you need any more info let me know. Mussey1.
  6. Picure should be here!!
  7. Max, Looks like this.
  8. When I turn on the aircon I have noticed that it makes quite a lot of noise. This appears to be because the cooling fans on the radiator switch on at the same time. Why?? Mussey1.
  9. You can buy a bracket specifically for the Galaxy from www.dashmount.co.uk. Mussey1.
  10. Nimrod, You're probably right!! Mind you there must be a bit of an anorak in all of us who use this site!!! I'm off now to do some train spotting and then to the airport to take down some aircraft numbers. Might even treat myself to a new anorak this weekend!! Cheers!! Mussey1.
  11. Just some more useless info...the current shape 'London Taxis' use Galaxy mirrors. Not really that interesting I know, but it may be a useful talking point on a blind date etc... I'll just get my coat!! Mussey1.
  12. module was under passenger seat on pre '98 cars. everything is now located in or around the fusebox. Mussey1.
  13. also try dabs.com Got my Panasonic head unit for
  14. When I did my driving test in 1988, I was taught to use 'silent handbrake'. I would have failed my test if I had let the ratchet click!! Mind you my driving instructor said that the rest of the car would probably have rotted away before you could wear out the handbrake ratchet. I'm sure that driving examiners got the rules changed as they were probably sick and tired of listening to clicking handbrakes day in day out! Mussey1.
  15. I wonder why they changed the headlight design for the mark2 so radically. Bulb changing on a Mk1 is easy, even compared to my mother-in-laws '96 fiesta!! Mussey1.
  16. On pre facelift cars heated front screen will not work if rear passenger heating is on at same time. It is however possible to have front and rear screens on at the same time. Mussey1.
  17. And finally!!
  18. Pics of readjusted wipers.
  19. yurir, I agree.. most people ignore alarms anyway and by the time you hear the alarm the thief will probably have the radio ripped out anyway and the damage is done. My last car a 98 Passat had a votex alarm that kept going off by itself, so it just proved to be a pain in the ass. If a thief really wants your car they will simply mug you and steal the keys, carjack you or break into your house in the middle of the night to get them. It is probably safer for you and your family to let them take the car easily rather than waking up in the middle of the night to find some oik standing at the side if your bed saying 'where are the keys mate!!' Heard a story a few weeks ago about a woman driving a Toyota Picnic..pulled in to post a letter, kids were still in the car..two guys approached took her keys, chucked kids out of car and drove off. Don't think an alarm would have helped!!! Mussey1.
  20. I'll get a picture this evening.....need to get new batteries for camera!! Mussey1
  21. MrT, Wiper does sit higher than the plastic surround and I had thought that wind noise would be bad. Was on the motorway on Saturday and I noticed no difference at all, only wind noise I could hear was from door mirrors or roof bars. Asthetically I would prefer to have the wipers sitting back in their original position, but the increase in visibility is considerably better, so unfortunately I think it has to be a compromise. Try it and see what you think!! Mussey1.
  22. Ivor, Good to know that. However considering that in many cases ABS actually increases the braking distance due to the driver taking foot of the pedal when all the clicking starts, in some cases ABS is actually a disadvantage. In real life sometimes you hardly have time to put your foot on the brake let alone have time to 'steer round' an object. I think ABS + brake assist would be a good job though!! Mussey1.
  23. I assume that the non function of ABS does not mean that the brakes themselves do not work. If the ABS system is disconnected I would imagine that the car returns to normal brakes. If this is the case then it is feasable that the car could still pass MOT as long as the brakes work. As far as I can recall MK1 LX's and many MK1 Alhambra's don't have ABS anyway. Can anyone else confrm this? Mussey1.
  24. You can fail an MOT for having a dropped door. I know a few people who have!! Mussey1
