I don't know if this will help, but I had a similar problem with one of my previous Toyota Avensis. It was a known problem where the steering column clonked if the steering wheel was rocked from side to side. The fix was for the dealer to re grease the steering rack. Have you tried this?? Mussey1.

Boot Won't Open Help Please
Mussey1 replied to Mauser's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Just a thought. As routine maintenance, would it be wise to spray the inside of the rubber gaiters on the tailgate the doors with a silicone lubricting spray or would this simply make matters worse?? I know this stuff works well on the window channels etc. Mussey1. -
I have noticed that since changing the head unit from my 2006r to a panasonic the FM reception does not seem as good!! It's fine when the car is a rest, but when on the move you can hear the signal fading from one side of the car almost as if someone is turning down the sound. When I press the 'mono' button it appears to be okay again. I fitted an in line AM amplifier as advised so AM is okay. Is there any way of boosting the FM signal?? Thanks. Mussey1.

I also have a problem with my from front passenger speaker. It appears to be the wires going accross the conduit to the door. I will have to have a better look this weekend. Mussey1.

Help Please....not Sure
Mussey1 replied to fivenecks's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Fivenecks, How long does the 'not seem to want to know' last for. I find on mine with the engine at normal temp and doing about 30 -35mph in 4th or 5th with the RPM at just below 2000 a sudden press on the accelerator causes a momentary hesitation before the car wants to start to accelerate. It then accelerates normally up to the red line! If I am easier on the throttle it seems to be okay. May be slight turbo lag. It your problem similar? Mussey1. -
A few weeks ago I disconnected my working MAF to see if there was any difference. It was amazing, the car felt like it had the engine from 1.8D Fiesta, incredibly slow and it nearly stopped on inlclines. If you say there is no difference in performance with the MAF disconnected it is probably on the way out. Mussey1.

Noisy Suspension

Replaced both links this morning...noise gone!!! It was the passenger side link that had failed, but I'll keep the old drivers side one as a spare. The new ones are a slightly different design, in that there is an allen key socket on the end of the thread and the part that I had to hold with the open ended spanner is totally round!! It seems to me that this design would be harder to remove i.e you would have to use a spanner to loosen the nut and an allen key to stop the ball joint turning. Unfortunately I had to take out the undertray as there was not enough room to undo the bottom droplink nuts. Replacing the tray was nearly the most fiddly bit of the job. Thanks everyone for all the info. Mussey1. -
Funny smells could be bacteria in the air con. You can get spray to sort this out. I also had a ABS light on. Try a few hard emergency stops..sometimes you can get a bit of rust from the brake discs getting stuck near the wheel sensor. Also check the ABS connectors, you can see them under the front wheel arches just behind the wheel. If this does not work you will have to get it diagnosed at your friendly Fraud dealer. Mussey1.

Noisy Suspension
Mussey1 replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
How much is any movement? Is it easeir to feel if the car is jacked up? I was pusing and pulling really hard and was managing to flex the bar istelf, but I couldn't detect much movement in the joint. I was out on some country roads on Wednesday night and the knocking was still happening at speeds of up to 40mph on really uneven surfaces. When driving through some villages it was so loud I thought something was going to break/fall off. Can the drop links really make that much noise?? Its really hard from inside the car to determine which side the knocking is coming from. I don't want to spend the money on the new parts if I'm not sure. Mind you I don't want to have to pay a garage either!! Mussey1. -

Arrrrgh! First Scratch On Me New Gal!
Mussey1 replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ivor, You really need to use a bit of elbow grease when using the stuff, I had to put on about 3 or 4 applications before I noticed a big difference. Then a good polish afterwards. It wont take out very deep scratches, but all I can say is that it has worked well when I have used it. Mussey1. -
Bought a roll of Halfords non slip lining for toolboxes etc. and put some on the seat base under our Maxi-Cosi child seat. It works really well!! Also put some on the seat of my Sister's Nissan X-Trail under a M&P's Travel System docking station thingy. Brilliant!! Anyone with child seats should try it!! Only

Noisy Suspension

Hi All, My car was steam cleaned and Mot'd last week. Now a noise has appeared. It only seems to happen when bumping over raised manhole covers or bits of patched road, but fine on all other surfaces. The steam clean must have dislodged some muck that was preventing the rattling. I have had a look under the car and can see nothing loose. If it is the anti roll bar drop links, is it a DIY job? Is it also a good idea to replace the anti roll bar bushes at the same time?? Thanks. Mussey1. -
Try Nokian Tyres! I have had them on my car for a year and they seem fine. Mine cost

Stopping Travel Announcements
Mussey1 replied to Taliska's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Taliska, It must be your kids changing the station!! It would ruin their street cred if any of their mates got in and thought they listened to Radio 4!! By the way are radio 4 and solent on the same waveband? I know that over here in N.Ireland BBC Radio Ulster changes to BBC Radio Foyle the further North West you drive. I think they share the same frequency. Mussey1. -
I forgot..'Automatic comfort' actually means 'Global closure' Mussey1.
-
Koro, Try and program the comfort function to 'on'. In order for the global closure to work you need to lengthen the pulse coming from the remote fob i.e. the windows will close as long as you have the button pressed. If it doesn't work the orange may need to be connected to the electric window/global function wire, but i'm not too sure what one that is. Mind you how often do you use the global function?? One step at a time I suppose!! Mussey1.
-
Koro, does the system work if you don't use the grey, violet, orange and yellow wires? Mussey1.
-
koro, With regards to your global closure, does your module have a row of dip switches? If so you will need to set the switch that will allow a lengthening of the pulse from the remote to allow the windows. Mussey1.
