Any Good Garages Out There
Ivor replied to fivenecks's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
WOAH! I nearly went through the windscreen when I first put my brakes on ;) What a difference new pads and discs make. Well, so far, I am well chuffed with the service I received today. I've had a 50k service (505.01 oil too!!!), new cam belt, new tensioner, new aux belt, new front discs and pads, brake fluid change, and all the screws and bolts that were missing replaced. I showed them the mess the previous dealer had made fitting the condenser and they said they had never seen one done so badly. The supports have to be cut, but they do it neatly and finish it off so it looks like part of the car and you normally can't tell it's been done (see other thread I posted somewhere re: condenser). The missing bolt should be replaced because although it is held by the bottom lug, the vibration may cause the condenser to stress. Anyway, it's been sorted now ;) . For the first time ever, I've also been given a litre of shell Helix 505.01 oil to top up when necessary (it doesn't use any oil but it's nice to have). Courteous all the way too. I'll have a good inpect tomorrow, but so far 10/10, worth the trip up the motorway. I can tow my caravan to France with confidence now! Ivor -

I did this for the first time a couple of weeks ago  Mine flashed the light and did the ping ping. The ping ping brought my attention to the light and when I felt the handbrake it was on! (sorry - for the above please read: My wife did this........)

Hmm, i'll check tonight to see if it was just a typo. I wonder if it's the connector that could be causing my problems then? PS  yep! :D ta! -

I finally got around to plugging in my VAG-COM last night. I got it primarily to sort out my aux. heater on address 08, but it won't find it! It finds other controllers, but not the heater  I'll try again tonight. -

Any Good Garages Out There

Well, what a coincedence!!! I just arrived home and got a phone call from a Manchester dealer who said that Lookers (Stockport) have closed down! Am I surprised? -
You should have posted this last week! I just threw a new one away when tidying the garage (from my previous Galaxy), my new one has alloys. It's been collecting dust for 4 years. You could have had it! EVERY time I throw something away I ALWAYS wish I hadn't.

Any Good Garages Out There
Ivor replied to fivenecks's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
I think readers of this forum know I am not at all happy with the service I have received to date from the main dealer where I bought my Alhambra. On recommendation, I have just rang another dealer (thanks Gazza) and asked them if my Alhambra should have had a cam belt change at 40k (it's now done 50k) and, yes, it should. They've bent over backwards to get me in quick, with a courtesy car, so it is booked in for Friday (its Tuesday pm now). I've also asked them to change the tensioner (they recommended to anyway), aux belt, front pads, front discs, do a 50k service and replace all the screws that are missing that the other dealer has "lost". I'll let you know how I get on. -

If my service last June "only" cost -
I've not had a few hours spare yet, can't do it this weekend either. I've not plugged in my VAG-COM yet either! I will post full piccies etc. when I do it. Ivor PS, My service is due, and I'm going to do it. I walked in to my local parts shop and said "I would like to order some parts to service my car". They said, "why? we have everything" B) They only thing they had was the oil filter. They were on the phone for 30 mins (true!) to the distributor and they have never heard of 505.01 oil. I am still awaiting their phone call from Monday....it's now Thursday. Methinks I'm going to try somewhere else, if that fails it's going to have to go to a stealer. So, my jobs I need to do are: 1. Service 2. Front pads - maybe discs too. 3. Replace glowplug and play with VAG-COM

Looking At Buying A Galaxy 2.0 Ghia
Ivor replied to maglite's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
You don't need to be doing a lot of miles to justify a diesel. I swapped my V6 for a diesel because I only drive 5 miles to work. I was driving a cold engine all the time so only got max 18MPG, now I get 40MPG in my Diesel (that was until my aux heater packed in, now I get 35MPG) over the 5 miles. I was really worried that it wouldnt have enough power - it has plenty! The reason I bought a V6 was on advise from collegues at work. They said such a big car needs a V6 - they all had V6's. What they were really doing was justifiing their fully expensed company cars, they didn't have to pay for the fuel. As soon as company car policy was changed and they had to buy their own, they swapped to diesel (B**stards). Interestingly, they stuck with Shalaxys because we all like them. Another reason I swapped was that the V6 GLX was unbearable in summer without aircon. Yes, it's like sitting in a greenhouse with all that glass - a must have. I lost a lot of money swapping, but I have made it back up on fuel savings now. It's like paying half the price for your fuel. Do the sums: I do 10,000 per year, I've had my Alhambra Diesel almost four years. 10,000 / 500 miles per fill up = 20 fill ups = -
Warm Up Time - 115 Tdi

Definately aux heater not working. Mine packed in a month ago, takes ages to warm up to 90 now, instead of 10 mins. -
OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
Ivor replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have a 1.9 (85Kw) PD, so I think the oil is 505.01 A service sheet from the stealers says they put in Shell Helix 10W/40 for -
I'd rather have a VW diesel than a Ford anyday, think yourself lucky. As far I am aware, its the same engine as they put in the passat, golf and some audi's
-
Nope. Mine's still beeping away. I took off the wheels to check them, about 8mm left. I'll sort it out soon or get it done when it's serviced, which is now due. I read somewhere on this forum that you can get pads and discs for ~

Good idea. Will do.
