I must admit, since my cambelt was changed, I do now hear a whirring when I rev high that I didn't here before, I think I need to 1. check the cap, 2. check where the pump is located and watch/listen

Phew! Glad I read this thread. My Alhambra was stood for 3 weeks whilst I was out of the country, when I started it up, within 200 yards I got a STOP immediately and check coolant warning. It was down to the neck of the expansion tank. I filled it up, checked it a week later and it was fine, no loss. I've just done a 100 mile trip and it required 1 litre to top it back up. I was panicking, I checked the oil, no sign of mayonaise, and no sign of any leaks. I am due to tow the caravan to France next month so I was getting worried, so I came on here to do a search and found the "could be the seal on the expantion tank cap". Phew - Hope it is, I'll check it tomorrow. Maybe it dried out whilst it was stood in all that hot weather we had?

Vag-com Fault List!
Ivor replied to Masked Marauder's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have trouble connecting to the aux heater, just keep trying. I can't remember the sequence, ie. plug vag-com into car, start software, or, start software, plug into car, but keep persevering and it should connect to it. -
Thanks for that, I'll ask the dealer then when I get back. It's going in for it's MOT on 2nd July.

We are off to France this summer with our caravan. I got stick on beam benders when I had a MK1, but I'm not sticking them on my plastic MK2 headlamps. Does anyone know where I can get headlamp protectors from (MK2 Alhambra) so I can stick them onto these, or maybe they sell them with integral beambenders?

Diy Aircon Top-up
Ivor replied to Masked Marauder's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My aircon was regassed after a new compressor was fitted under warranty. Yes, they overfilled it. The symptoms of overfill are:- When the clutch on the aircon engages after starting the engine, the idle revs drop seriously low, almost stalling the engine. I had to switch it to economy mode for fear of damaging the compressor and take it back. They let some gas out (presumably) then it was fine, has been for 2 years now (touch wood!). -

Hmm, fifth day back at work, must fill up tonight!

At the weekend I drove from Manchester down to Hastings and back (280 mile each way) 50.8 MPG going at avg 68MPH on cruise. 44.0 MPG coming back at avg 71MPH on cruise. Above 70MPH all cars start to drink fuel because of the air they have to push out of the way. I filled up when I set off, and I'm just starting to go in the red now  , after 2.1/2 days back at work. Get a Diesel!

Replacement Of Air Con Evaporator (long)
Ivor replied to Nick's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Blimey! I wouldn't tackle that. I've had the evapourator, condenser and compressor all replaced under warranty. Now I know my dashboard has been out. -
I didn't want to mess with this since it may have started to leak? Hope she doesn't notice :D They looked like they may be difficult, I sprayed them with WD40 and cleaned them out with a tiny screwdriver but they posed no problem.

I finally got around to messing with my heater today. Plugged in the VAG-COM, and there were 5 error codes logged, all "Flameout". I cleared the errors, the aux heater tried to fire up but just billowed grey smoke again. The mini exhaust was cold to the touch. I squirted some more WD40 on the bolts ready to drop it to fit the new glowplug and it started to rain :D so I didn't start the job.

I lost all drive in my V6 auto. Under the car was a pool of oil (it was ok when I parked up) Are you sure it's not lost it's oil? Get someone else to check. Could just be a seal gone like mine.
