  1. The photo's and video that I posted for the aux heater on page 6 are maxing out the bandwidth on my web server, so sometimes they are not available - usually until the end of the month when the bandwidth is reset by my ISP. I have now moved them to another server but I cannot edit the post to point them to the new location. I have asked a forum moderator to do this for me. Hopefully this will cure the problem.
  2. The heater should close itself down after 5 failed attempts to start up (flameout or whatever) so there should be no need to pull a fuse. You will then need to get it reset by the dealer or use a VAG-COM. Regarding manually starting it, this depends on the model - I can manually start mine by pressing a button. I can also program it to come on and defrost whilst I'm still in tucked up in a warm bed  .
  3. I have been using Hobin in Preston for the last 3 years - fantastic, even though they are an hours drive away from me. I won't take it anywhere else; after poor service from the stealers in Manchester.
  4. It's ages since I visited this site - it looks so different! Just to let you know I still have my Alhambra (6 years this coming July) and I still love it - I will never sell it - NEVER! I've had no problems at all since I fixed my aux heater (glowplug) a couple of years ago apart from my wipers sticking last year but that was an easy fix/clean. These cars are fantastic, don't get disillusioned because people usually post on here when they have a problem, so I thought I'd post because I haven't got any. I've just bought a Mitsubishi GTO as a weekend plaything and I am having the same concerns (all in the mind) that people have on here when I read the GTO forums (there is nothing wrong with it but when you read other people's troubles...) My previous car was a Galaxy, so I have had them as my main car for 8 years now - great car.
  5. Took me a while to get enough motivation to post the piccies, but due to popular request, here they are: http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0052.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0053.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0054.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0055.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0056.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0057.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0058.JPG More... http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0059.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0060.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0061.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0062.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0063.JPG http://www.stones.uk.net/wipers/PICT0064.JPG Hope they are useful
  6. I won't be getting one, not even looked. Still love my Alhambra and I've finished paying for it now  Apart from a few minor repairs recently (Aux heater glow plug last May, drop links last July and Wipers seized just now it still drives and looks as new and there is no way I can justify swapping it for a new one along with
  7. Well, the inevitable has happened. My wipers started juddering a month or so ago. My Alhambra is now almost 6 years old. I printed out instructions from the forum to remove the mechanism 6 weeks ago but I've been in the states for 4 weeks, only returning this Thursday. The car has been stood for 4 weeks so I didn't dare put the wipers on. It started imediately first flick of the switch  . Anyway, today (Saturday) after watching England beat Paraguay 1-0 I set about the job. It took me an hour to get the mechanism out onto the bench. Both splined shafts have completely siezed. It took an hour to do one side (the easy side it turns out) and I've spent half an hour tapping out the nearside shaft. I hope it comes out with the linkage in place as it doesn't look like it will. I've tapped it as far as I can so now it's a case of twisting it until it's out. It started to go dark so I've left it soaking in WD40 overnight. Tomorrow I'll finish it off but I reckon it's at least a 4 hour job if they are seized. As with the aux. heater I did lat year, I'll post full step by step photos when I'm done. Cheers Ivor
  8. I replaced mine at 50K, the vents in the discs were rusty/scaled and well as the surface being worn.
  9. 2000 1.9TDi MK2 - 61K and tow a caravan (3000 miles last August in France towing), original clutch.
  10. I had difficulty getting my VAG-COM to connect to the aux Heater. Juat keep trying. I can't remember the exact sequence, but try combinations of ignition on first before opening VAG-COM software, VAG-COM lead connected first then IGN then start software etc. etc.
  11. I know when it is labouring. On a long flat straight road it's fine. I'm not going to put my foot down and accelerate, I will change down for that, but for a long straight flat stretch its no problem. All I am saying is that 4th at 30mph is no problem which is how this thread started off. Going up hills I like to keep it around 2000rpm, irrespective of gear. Believe me, I would be the last one to labour my engine. I'm keeping this car as it is a beauty and no different from when I bought it except some digits have appeared on my odometer.
  12. If I need to accelerate off I change down. Doesn't labour if coasting. No need for 3rd!
  13. How did you manage to get the wipers to pick up the roof? Must be very strong!
  14. Nope If it's flat and just coasting, 6th is ok at around 900rpm 5th definately I only use 4th for hills, steep hills maybe 3rd (@30mph) The steep hill on the M5 going to Exeter - goes up in 6th no probs. Pulls the caravan in 6th at 50-60 no probs. Have they changed the ratio? Mine is July 2000, 1st of new shape.
  15. Something is wrong here. I sometimes drive at 30mph in 6th. Ok, you cant pull away, you need to change down to 5th/4th, or if uphill to 3rd.
  16. Keep trying the VAG-COM (unplug / start stop laptop / ingition on off etc.) My aux heater doesn't come up in VAG-COM every time.
  17. The is a good definition of PS here:- PS
  18. A German guy approaches a prostitute "I vish to buy sex vit you". "OK" says the girl, "I'll charge 20 an hour". ".....ist goot, but I must varn you, I am a little kinky". "No problem" she replies cautiously, "I can do little kinky". So off they go to the girl's flat, where the German produces four large bedsprings and a duck caller. "I vant you to tie ze springs to each of your hans und knees". The girl finds this most odd, but complies, fastening the springs as he had said, to her hands and knees. "Now you vill get on your hans und knees" She duly does this, balancing precariously on the springs. "You vill please blow zis kwacker as I make love to you." She finds it odd, but figures it's harmless (and the guy is paying.) She finds the sex is fantastic, as she is bounced all over the room by the energetic German, all the time honking on the duck caller. The climax is the most sensational that she has ever experienced, and it is several minutes before she has enough breath to say "That was totally amazing, what do you call that position ?" "Ah", says the German.............."Four-sprung Duck technique".
  19. Dark grey to match black (Anthracite?) upholstery.
  20. I have the genuine Ford fridge. Bought it for my Galaxy, now use it in my Alhambra. It has a block in the lead with a green LED on it to show it has power. The LED goes off and it cuts power when the voltage drops. It will run for 1/2 day before cutting out. Always been able to start the car (my battery is now over 5 years old). To restart it you have to unplug it and plug it back in. It IS made by electrolux. I've just used it extensively in France for the past 3 weeks. (2700 miles, average 32.4 MPG) 2000 Miles at around 26MPG pulling a HEAVY caravan. Not a hitch - wonderful car :P .
  21. I thought this was the case, since they seem to have learned that my towbar was fitted after a few days, but I've been told they are not self learning??? :P They now ignore my towbar, self learning or not.
  22. Replaced nearside last month at 53K, offside ok.
  23. I've got 2  I may be persuaded to part with one.
