  1. Stock head unit is not much cop either. If you are running this I'd swap it first then move on to the speakers. Swapped my 6 disk ford one out for a Ford/Sony MP3 unit much better. The upgraded the front speakers for Focals.
  2. Had one of these for a year now. Originally wanted a 2L but could not find one. Test drove a 1.8 and was plesently supprised. Took the plunge. Nice to drive suppisingly pokey given the small size and large lump to pull. Little bit sticky off the starts though tends to lurch or stall. Probably just my poor driving ability.
  3. Have a MKIII 1.8 diesel and was wondering is anyone is running thiers on biofuel? The owners guide suggests that a 5% mix is as far as you can go with this which is what tescos sell anyway, I think. Seems to be more of a generic "we can't be bothererd" statement rather than there being specific reasons. With the increasing fuel & tax costs biodiesel is looking more attractive evrey day. In fact if you belive the blurb it is better for you motor anyway. I know that I'd have to change the fuel filter after switch over but wondered if there were specific reasons that a 1.8 would not run with it?
  4. Not sure if it just our car or me ;) The parking sensors seem pretty usless just like our MKII galaxy. Often they beep with nothing around the car other times they are on solid and sometimes you can acutally use them! Asked the garage to take a look but NFF. No supprise there then. Just wondered if others found them to be a bit erratic?
  5. I think I have the same noise. Tinkleing sound from behind the drivers footwell? Been there nearly a year now. Asked the garage to have a look but... you know the score :(
  6. Have seen that JVC unit in Halfords and as I was thinking of intsalling a DVD player for the "little dudes" that might be an option. But really wanted to keep it looking standard and intergrated with the dash, clock and steering wheel controls. Being double DIN it is going to look sore with a single DIN. Made the mistake of getting a new Sony 6CD off ebay. Not enough research though, turns out that the sony 6CD does not do MP3's it is only the single CD version that does. Doh! Also lights up Green when the Galaxy is Red. Now I know why it is not an option even though it is a drop in fit. Sounds so much better though even without upgrading the standard speakers. Changer mech is very noisy. Might still go for a Sony CD and retrofit Red LEDs.
  7. Just chopped in my MKII Zetec and got myself a MKIII Galaxy 1.8. Was disapointed that the Ford 6006CD head unit does not play MP3's so I'm thinking about swapping it out either for the Sony/Ford 6CD (how good is it?) or looking for aftermarket dash adaptors and going for a standard single DIN unit. Anyone done this yet? Also planning to change the speakers and must say the new door panels are much easier to get off. Inside is a 6.5cm unit just need to find a supplier of speaker adaptors.
  8. To be fair the plug I ordered is simply a replacement as far as I can tell. And because it is laser etched, I guess it is a genuine Beur part for which they have changed the part numbering. If you look up the old part number on thier site it does not flag. I don't know if there is any change in specification that comes with the new part number. When I visited Frauds they could not find a part number for the glowplug alone. The nearest item was a glowplug kit that had leads hanging of it. That was
  9. Ordered my replacement plug off Martin yesterday
  10. Well done a days motoring with reasonable electric demands and the new fuse and box have kept thier cool :)
  11. You are right, there could be an issue there hence just wanting to upgrade to the brakes that this model is supposed to have rather than the ones from the MK1. They are less likley to spot or take issue with them. Has anyone done this?
  12. I have never been that impressed with the brakes on our Galaxy. It warps discs, suffers from fade and generally does not give me that nice and secure feel. Now out car was built at the crossover between the old and the new shape and seem to of carried over some of the old stock of parts, brakes included. Listings show our motor should have slightly larger discs and pads but ours has them off the MK1. Is it as simple as swapping the discs, pads and calipers over to the proper MK2 set? I have 16" wheels. Just wondering if a trip to scrapie might be worth it. Any other comments, I'm not keen on a badboy mega caliper kit just want some half decent brakes. Is drilling really worth it?
  13. Hope so, got an important run on Monday. She how she runs tomorrow
  14. Hopefully it has been caught just in time. Got the guy to solder the new crimps as well just to make sure the joint is electically secure. Forgot to mention a couple of other symptoms. The car smoked like a tropper when I ran it b4 repair. Investigation showed this came from the Aux heater at the rear. I can only assume that this was because the glowplug could not get enough juice to burn the desiel off propperly. Fine after repair. Took a look with VAGCOM and oh what a load of faults in alsorts of modules. Many flagging low voltage. Nothing specifically mentioning an alternator related problem though. Reset all the modules now. :D
  15. Cheers BigDaddy :D MumOf4: yep read your trials and tribulations. So do you have any explanation of what the fault was or are you just in the lap of the Gods? I'm just worried that this is the start of something. I hope I have nipped it in the bud.
  16. Well my first major breakdown in 18months! Lets hope it is not the start of something. Happily chugguing down the motorway and then reach heavy traffic. The engine starts to feel a little bit sluggish, not unlike the symptoms of a doggy MAF. About 10 mins later the ABS light comes on. Then the radio acts up and I have almost no power. Pull on to the hard sholder, switch the engine off to try and reset the ECU but the engine will not crank. A Flat battery. I find this strange as it is only 2 months old. Let the car rest for about 10mins and the battery has recovered enough to enable me to start the car. Engine seems fine and off we go again. Another 30 mins later the same happens again. This time no chance of starting and it is on the back of a transporter going back home. Read up on the posts here (thanks :D) and it looks like a common fault. First thing I look at is the fuse box and the aera around the alternator fuse is all burnt out. http://www.mpathltd.co.uk/MiscImages/BurntFuseBox.jpg Doing some testing I was a little worried as there apperaed to be nothing comming out of the alternator. Frauds want
  17. Looks like a picture from TIS, how did you find it
  18. A star! Saw that plug as well as the one at the rear on the underside. It was just that I was expecting it to be on top somewhere. So drain out from the bottom and then devise a method of filling in to the side. Sounds like a job for a hose and freddy the funnel.
  19. 6 speedbox and just the oil you mention' just feel stupid that I can't figure where to fill it. The Ford TIS is no help but must admitt that I have not removed anything yet. Guess the battery tray would be the best thing to rip out first?
  20. Have a 1.9TDI with a 6 speed manual box and I would like to change the oil. Got the car up on the ramps and can see the sump plug for the box but cannot find where to fill it? Where is the fill point? Pictures or text greatly appriciated. What is the fill proceedure? Any hints or tips? I belive it takes 2.5L to fill and I now have 3 bottles of fords special oil waiting for a home. Thanks in advance.
  21. Thanks GSMGuy I have VAGCOM and nothing is listed as faulty. I do not know enough about it to dig deeper or run tests. I have just got hold of a throttle pedal so I'll give that a go at the weekend. As I say it is such a step change in the acceleration pattern I do feel it could be electrical. If it were a vaccum leak I would expect it to roll off.
  22. I spent ages before I chnged the MAF as I did not want to shell out the dosh for no reason. Being no car mechanic the biggest thing that put me off changing it was all the posts here that say disconnect it and if it runs better then the sensor is faulty. In my case disconnecting it made things worse leading me to think my MAF was fine. Trying various things to fix my lack of power (mainly top speed) I eventually opted for a new MAF off eBay (
  23. Yes but mainly the other way round, floor it and she takes off then backs off a little. This has been a problem since ownership that I have never got to the bottom of. Things got really bad over time with as I suffered a failing MAF. Effectively the MAF amplified the problem. Floor the throttle and it accelerated well for a few seconds and then it goes real slow. Typically when overtaking. Backing off the throttle and then applying it again gives another boost for a bit. Changed the MAF and the car is much happier but the basic problem is still there, just in the background. I have checked the engine for vaccum leaks and tested turbo vane diaphram with no problems so I'm now thinking that there maybe an electrical fault somewhere (sensor failure). So any thoughts welcome...
  24. Driving me potty. Intermittantly the Glow plug light starts flashing during a journey and then goes off again. Have noticed that the brake lights stay on sometimes. Reading the posts pointed to the brake light switch as did VAG-COM. Tried adjusting, cleaning the switch several times. In the end just replaced it. Got worse. Adjusted it again still no good. Brought another switch and now a lot better but still playing up occasionally. Any ideas? My suspect is that the pedal is not comming back all the way up but I cannot verify it. I have even lifted the pedal with my toe to see if the MIL will clear.
  25. I'd lay bets on it being the MAF. I had one instance where I lost all power on a trip to Cornwall, happened at the hilly part. Lorries loved me, charged past them going down the hills and slowed them right down going back up. Getting dangerous in the end so pulled over switched of for five and fine afterwards. I was put off for ages in changing the MAF cos all the posts say if you disconnect it and things get worse that the MAF is OK and it was expensive. Tried alsorts and still was down on power. Watching eBay came across a cheap MAF. Found out why it was cheap, it was knackered but it so different in symptoms to mine I decieded to change it for a real one. For once I was pleseantly supprised by my Fraud dealer,
