  1. Just had the same. MIL light came on. Took it down the local garage and they reset it saying it was related to the EGR valve. Having done over 156K thought I'd better take a look... http://www.morban.co.uk/MiscImages/EGR.JPG Valve is located above the cam cover behind the oil filler. It is held on by 4 large torx and on smaller to a bracket on the valve actuator. Also found a broken support bracket to a pipe behind which you can see. So had to make that good while there. With it off the problem was immediately obvious. The pin that is turned to lift the valve had snapped and the bits I assume jamed the valve. http://www.morban.co.uk/MiscImages/EGRPin.JPG Anyone know if I can get just the pin? The valve moves freely and the pin has snapped where it is thinner because of a circlip locating groove. I have reinstalled the remaining half as there is no obvious way it can come out when the actuator is reinstalled. Just means all the lifting force is one side of the mech.
  2. Cos I'm sad and because changing the bulbs was a bit of a chore I have just recently changed all the rear side light bulbs to LED. I had already done the front sides for the same reason. After this though I found the front side LEDs would not go off fully. When I changed the rear outermost lights back to the norm the fronts stayed off. Seems like there is always a leakage current through that circuit but you would think it would go off after a while. Had something simalar on a mini where they would flicker for a bit after the car was locked.
  3. Pretty easy to remove. There is a sring clip which needs to be hooked off it is sandwiched between the armrest and seat. Push the foam back to gain access. With the clip removed the arm reat will wiggle out. Then from there unzip the upholstery and you can then slide the ali arm rest out. From there it is pretty easy to strip down. I just drilled through the mech and fixed it with a bolt
  4. Ouch! But then again I think we can all accept that there might be problems on the way it is just the way these are managed. Washing thier hands of the issues they create is not the best way.
  5. Time for a letter or two... Mr. Nigel Sharp Managing Director Ford Motor Company UK Eagle Way Brentwood CM13 3BW Ford CRC PO Box 4430 Coventry CV3 9BH Comments welcome... Ford_Galaxy_Problems.pdf
  6. Don't get me wrong I like the motor but just feel that the Ford Stealership network nor Ford Customer Services have caught up with the new designs comming off the line
  7. Thanks. I did get the recall about the windscreen but the dealer is avoiding giving me the specific dates of the recalls for the gearbox mounting and injector loom. Although I'm being told they are recent. Considering the number of day's I have had off the road and the nature of this fault I took a look under the bonnet and found 5 clips hanging off all allowing pipes or wires to float free and chaff and that is after the dealer has been in there. One was a clip for one of the battery leads, another potential for a fire then.
  8. Just a heads up, a couple of weeks ago my 1.8tdci gal broke down with the engine fault light on. The fault was identified as 4 injector faults. Turns out this is a known issue and is subject to a recall notice. Has anyone had a recall about this? If so when was it dated? Also there is a recall for a gearbox mount, anyone seen this?
  9. As an owner of a 2006 MKIII Galaxy, I'm loving the fact that I'm rapidly becomming a top tester for ford and paying for the privilidge. DMF replacement, known fault with TSB against it, off the road 5 days 4 injector faults, Wiring loom worn through, known issue with Recall against it, off the road 13 days Coolant pipe failure, worn pipe due to poor routing and clipping. Off the road 1 day Broken armrest, poor design Parking sensor replacement, off the road 1 day Cut finger due to lifted chrome on gear shift Stalling requiring engine recalibration, known fault with TSB against it, off the road 1 day Current issues:- Climate control Occasional over reving when changing gear Occasional selection of reverse gear when selecting reverse Misc uncliped cables, pipes etc. Untraceable coolant leak If you do need to eveoke Ford Customer Services (0845 841 1111) have fun. My recent injector breakdown has meant that I have had to hire a replacement vehicle. Ford do not want to reimberse me for any of this. As a matter of goodwill they can provide a hire car but the caveat is after they have a "diagnosed fault" from the dealership. They will only get this one the car has been fully looked at and in most cases repaired.
  10. Warrenty... Sorry sir, Trim is only covered under the first year of the warrenty. You as a customer have to pay for our poor design  Took armrest off and drilled a bolt through to lock it in place.
  11. Update... My flywheel failed! Very poor service trying to get the problem sorted but one it was reconised went in, waited for parts as usual, flywheel replaced. Luckily it was under warrenty but as a known issue I pitty any secondhand purchasers that have to pay for this fix out of warrenty for a ford known fault.
  12. Mine is on an 06 plate and now done 43K. It is a mix between a family car and a company van doing a lot of motorway miles.
  13. Don't know about the Galaxy but I have had a few mini's that have run-flats fitted and so they have TPMS as standard. On those they measured wheel speed. As the tyre deflates it diameter becomes smaller and hence rotates faster. Over time this can be detected if compared to the other wheels. When ever you changed the type pressures dramitically it would come on. There is an overide button to press which recalibrates the system.
  14. How much was that to get sorted? I'm begining to convince myself that I have the starts of this problem. The clutch pedal halfway down thing I have noticed. The other is if you turn the engine off normally it rattles to a halt like a truck. Dip the clutch and it is nice and quite. Just spent yesterday with the thing rattling and clanking in low revs around town. You could feel it all in the back of the clutch pedal. Thing is fine now. Why are we all paying to be the developers of DMF technology? Do you have any details of the tech bulitens?
  15. I read this with intrest. I have an early build 06 and have had the odd reversing thing, thought it was just me. As for the flywheel now I'm worried. I'd say that I may well be suffering from this. Always had a lot of vibes low down and just sent yesterday in town at low revs with the engine realy making a racket unless I reved up or dipped the clutch. I've done a few miles in this now and I can see what is going to happen. It is going to go just outside or warrenty. Is there anyway I can look up all the tech builtens for this car? Already had it in for stalling when pulling away. New ECU map is better but now the throttle response is very lazy, so sometimes when changing gear the engine revs shoot up as you declutch.
  16. Likewise I have learned to live with it too.
  17. Can anyone confirm if this exsists on the MKIII? No mention of it in the handbook. I have had an ongoing dialogue with my local dealer who did not know. Then told me it does, now tells me it doesn't  Ready for third service now and nothing showing. I'm now thinking that it was one of those things that came over from VW on the MKII. Seems silly it wasn't adopted on the MKIII.
  18. Just had the drivers arm rest fail. Now won't ratchet to required position. Much preferred the adjustable knob on the MKII. Not sure if this will be covered under warranty as I'm assuming it is classed as trim. Anyway just had it apart and it appears that the aluminum casting has broken. It has teeth on it which have sheared off and bent. Looking at it it does not seem that well sized for the potential leverage that could be applied. Main reason for the post is a word of caution. I guess the kids climbing all over the car hasn't helped. I'll let you know how much the replacement costs or if it got replaced under warranty.
  19. Fixed at last! Just could not be bothered to keep going to ford dealer so mentioned fault during services. Nothing changes turns out to be a defective rear sensor that was eventually replaced
  20. Is this what you mean.... http://www.morban.co.uk/GarysEbayPics/IMG_3518.JPG Look like the pipes to the heater matrix. No cover or insulation as you can see. Looks like there is a panel mounting lug though. I have had the car a year now and not noticed excessive heat build up. The pipes are hot to touch. I have not noticed the heat build up around the handbrake either. Some where I'm assuming there will be a valve to shut of the water flow when heat is not required, this could be in the cabin or engine bay sounds like this has stuck. In regard to the center console, could those pipes run on to a rear cabin heater? On the MKII the was a separate heater in the back but even then the pipes ran outside under the floor. Not even looked on the MKIII for rear heater
  21. Thanks for the update obviously this may well get technical and down to specific engine configurations. I'm not mechanic but looking under the bonnet of the 1.8 the engine looks more agricultural than others I ones I have seen. I'd guess the guess the score with the Merc is simply down to low temperatures. Even diesel gels just not a soon a BD. In the winter months thing most people use a BD / Straight Diesel mix. As for the type of fuel dare I say it I'm contemplating DIY  . The drive is high mileages, cheap fuel costs, minimal or no fuel duty. I know this is not going to be clear cut and a risk on my part but just thought I sound people out independently of the Bio-diesel forums.
  22. Latest pair of boots
  23. Must admit I was surprised too, especially for a car of this size. I expected it with my mini, small car, little space, weight saving, tight budgets but backed up with run-flats! With a car the size of Galaxy that you could reasonably expect to be doing lots of miles loaded with lots of people. More weight and cornering forces on the tires etc. I think it is potentially dangerous. Would not like my wife to get caught out on the side of the motorway with the kids. Sod's law dictates that it would be in the middle of the night cold, raining, motorway, drivers side. What are they thinking? Advice for what it is worth... Check your pressures regularly (that will save you fuel too.). Read the manual for the inflation kit today, before you need it.
  24. Yes I know this is strictly in the wrong section but is kind of a general question anyhow. Original post here Have a MKIII 1.8 diesel and was wondering is anyone is running thiers on biofuel? The owners guide suggests that a 5% mix is as far as you can go with this which is what tescos sell anyway, I think. The handbook covers this with what seems to be more of a generic "we can't be bothererd" statement rather than there being specific reasons. I'm guessing the MKII's are fine on the stuff as the engines are based on VW\Audi lumps and the Germans normally rate thier kit on this stuff. MKIII are based on Ford's own engines aren't they? With the increasing fuel & tax costs biodiesel is looking more attractive evrey day. In fact if you belive the blurb it is better for you motor anyway. I know that I'd have to change the fuel filter after switch over but wondered if there were specific reasons that a 1.8 would not run with it?
  25. Cheers I'll have a look. This is one of the first off the production line so I'm sure there are loads of firmware changes, upgrades etc. not that my local dealer would let me know or check. On my MKII, from memory they were fixed in place so could not rotate. I'm not 100% sure but isnt one of the sensors a ultrasonic transmitter and the other a reciver? With a pair on each side. Guess the positions could be wrong.
