  1. All apart and plenty of broken door clips but no broken wires found sadly. Couldnt remove regulator either as the window is up so no access to the torx window clamps to drop the glass? Found a suggestion on another forum that the brown earth wire can fail so I'll try a by pass wire tonight?
  2. I have a 99 MK1 TDi Zetec which is one of the last MK1's but I wondered if any of the parts from the next model could be fitted to upgrade its looks cosmetically? I much prefer the bigger headlight look but suspect they wont fit without lots of changes? Wings, Bonnet? What other parts are interchangeable? Anyone tried? Will later seats fit? Thinking of adding electromagnetic front and rear parking sensors and remote central locking too at some point and I am currently having the 16" Zetec alloys plastic coated as they are an addition that was carried over to MK2.   3. Passenger front window worked for a week then packed up and just clicks in the door now? relay presumeably? Is this common? is there a safety switch which cuts power or what else could cause this fault? Drivers side works ok so fuse must be ok. Harvey

I've searched the old posts but can't find any reports form those of you who were fitting manual On / Off switches in place of the air temp sensor on the wiper mechanism to control the booster heater. Have any of you now done it and if so does it work well? I was a little worried it might affect the main ECU as mentioned by some? Mine is a MK1 1999 Zetec 1.9TDI 110 I think my Aux water pump may also not be working as I cant hear it after I switch off the engine? Do they all have them and where exactly are they located? H
  5. Not heard that pump on mine running on? and my heater works now and then sometimes with the jet noise only running for short bursts like Scrotes? It usually seems to run ok after a few miles of coughing and spluttering? So what the procedure for checking and repairing the electric Water Pump then please? Is it worth another forum heading Aux Water pump? I'd also like to replace the water hoses onto the booster heater, as they look very perished. Are they dealer only parts or will motor factors sell them? Anyone do Silicon versions? H
  6. I can do better than that and its organic with no chemicals! Having had lots of classic cars with crap de- misters I've tried all sorts. Rain ex is ok but it can cause the water droplets to just form bigger and they then run off the glass and in my case onto my knees (in a Ginetta). An old trick from years back is (sounds daft) to carry half a Potato???????? All you do is cut in half then rub the juice on your windows then clean off after a few minutes. This will then reduce mist problems and only cost you pennies! H
  7. Could it be the ABS system? My Gal judders a bit too but I'll live with it til I change the discs. Rust on the hubs under where the disc sits on the hub can also be enough to cause this and worth checking? Pads check? Drive at 85MPH? What about normal driving speeds and doing a few emergency stops to bed them in? Wouldnt waste money or more brakes just yet. H
  8. Back again, As suspected Mine is not working properly as it has no jet noise and smoke drifts out of the exhaust so the blower fan is not working. If the glow plug is faulty does that stop the fan running as the pump was obviously still pumping diesel through due to the smelly smoke? I spent an hour or so last night getting the nuts and bolts loose as they were all very stubborn. If only mine was as clean as the one in the photos! My heater has alan socket head bolts on the end that look very seized so I left them for now coved in WD40. Do these go right through the two alloy sections because if they do I suspect they will sheer off on mine . What length and size are they please as I'll buy some before I start again.   9. It seems a cold morning is forecast tomorrow below 5 degrees c so I'll see if my booster heater fires up. Just had the car for a week and its taking a long time for the heater to kick in so I dont think its working correctly, but I'll be back on here for help if its failed. Anyone live near Tadcaster who has the software to re set my ECU once if I have to change the Glow Plug? H

  11. Hi guys, I'm new to your forum as spend much of my time building and running Ginettas's. No they are not Italian but English sports cars! Since we have a new bundle of joy and I needed a bigger Ginetta tow car, I've just bought a Blue 1999 TDi Zetec and I will no doubt have lots of questions in the future as I do my own spannering. The car is a bit tatty but its got 95k and cost 2.4k so I thought it a good buy? Cosmetically, firstly it could do with a new gearstick Gaitor in navy Blue and a new plastic surround around the window and mirror switches for the drivers side door as both are damaged? Also two speaker grills have bust! Are these best bought from Ford or are there cheaper places to buy parts for the MK1? Any idea how I can tell if my engine is a 90 or 110 bhp as its supposed to be a 110 but I want to be sure? Are any of the engine chip upgrades worth their money for this model? Any common failures likely that can be prevented by early attention? A freind reckoned the drive shaft splines should be removed and greased as they were not from the factory? I'd like to add a remote locking module so which models work and are reliable? All the best
