  1. Took car in to garage. 2 days in there and the end result is that the technician thinks it is the aux heater and we MAY have a problem in the winter. Well thanks a lot!!!!!! Basically I guess there is no problem having read the previous forum posts. But, I guess now I have that in wiritng I can go back whenver I want in the future.
  2. Halfords sell a can of anti-bacterial agent. You spray into A/C and leave for a certain time. Costs around
  3. Call me cheap. We had the mats fitted to all three rows. But buggies/prams and wellies were dirtying the booty space and under the rear seats (when folded. VW wanted
  4. Thanks. Will have a look at oil. Usually only check once every 8 weeks, but will check weekly for the next couple of months. Amazing how a free website puts one's mind at ease way quicker than an expensive dealership.
  5. 8 month old ex-demo with 8,500 on the clock. It's blue smoke. Wife is covering most of mileage with cold engine (to and from school and gym), i.e. 15 minute bursts five or six times a day in Urban setting. I noted that the trip had 33mpg on it when I got it. Zeroed that and wife has been getting around 36 mpg on average. There again I get 44mpg when I drive it in the same setting (but then she has points on her licence and I don't)!!!!!! Literally just spoke to her on 'phone and she says since I pointed out the mpg reader she has been getting better mileage as she has 'learnt' how to adapt to the car. Anyway, I will drive behind her again tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for interest.
  6. Driving behind my wife last week I noted a small puff of smoke from the exhaust on her gear changes (1.9Tdi VW Sharan). Not a lot, and barely discernible without concentrating. No noticeable build up of deposits on exhaust. Car was cold at the time and has just recently had first service. Any ideas if something may be wrong? Read something along the lines that it may be excess unburnt diesel? May explain why we're only getting 450 miles from a tank.
  7. Wife just took car in to VW and the ticking noise stopped as she drove up. They have no idea what it is. Amazing, a forum on the net has all the details and the mechanics have 'never heard of such a problem'. The old forum has plenty on this topic and it does seem as though this is a natural thing to happen, in fact the ticking noise means the solenoid feedind diesel to the rear heater is working!!! Would have thought they would have tried to damp the noise a bit though. I'm going to book it in, under warranty, and demand that the noise be dampened. This is a great site, really put my mind at ease when I read similar problems/issues coming up.
  8. Our vehicle sound similar, although it's not really a whine. The service book refers to the fact that the fan stays on for a while to cool down the heater. What I would like to understand is why the heater is there anyway and what exactly it does??
  9. Just bought a new Sharan and have the same problem. VW are saying they are not aware of the issue. The heater is working and noise occurs intermittently when outside temp is below 10C.Surely there is something wrong with the valve if some make a noise and others do not? Would appreciate some more info as you refer to the previous message board and I wonder what was written there? Crux of the matter is that I have it booked in for them to look at in early April...
