  1. If you mean the big fan (the main cooling fan that comes on when the radiator gets hot - can only see that one), then it DOES NOT come on when the AC is switched on. Just checked. Am I looking at the right fan?
  2. Hi, No, nothing flashes, no warning signs or anything.
  3. Was hoping I might be a lucky one, but perhaps not with the air con. The air con seems to work in the morning first thing when the outiside air temperature is colder, but by the afternoon when the ambient temperature is hot, it just seems to blow warm air out. This is a climate control air con, not manual. Any ideas? Is there a temperature sensor which could be jiggered? Any help appreciated...
  4. Again, thanks for all responses, even though some of the discussions have got a little heated !!! I think I'm probably going to try the continental, as most seem to think these are good. I'm just about to do an internet search for prices.
  5. Thanks for responses ! Seatkid, how miles would you expect fro the Continental Eco Contact? Would these be the same as the premium contact 2, i.e. 30,000 miles? What is the difference here between those two tyres ?
  6. Size is 215/55 R16 97H. If I bought the Michelins, they are about
  7. Need 2 new tyres around Easter time. Have used Michelin in the past, getting about 22,000 out of the fronts. However, would like any other people's opinions of whether I should stick with this make. If not, what other makes are good for wear and would give similar or better mileage?
  8. Its standard radio. Seatkid, I have alhambra mkII (2004 reg), so will this radio need earthing as you suggested, or will it have been modified already?
  9. Hi, Checked that connection - wasn't loose. Pulled it on and off and reception seems a little better, but still not perfect. Am just about to look into suppressors to see if I can fit them somewhere to see if that makes a difference. Maybe its where I am - going away soon so will see if a different location makes any difference.
  10. Hoping someone can help - have Seat Alhambra - in the last couple of weeks, radio reception on MW is poor - sometimes can hear sound of engine through the radio when you are increasing speed, although not always apparent. Seems worse on Talksport, for example, than Radio 5 ! Reception seems o.k. in FM mode. Do the cars have suppressors anywhere? Any advice on what I should check? Thanks in advance...
  11. This weekend have spent many hours on the internet looking for advice on a new car for the wife . I have a Seat Alhambra 1.9 DTi, which I love, but cannot afford another one for the Mrs (not a new or nearly new one) ! She would like a people carrier (ideally 7 seats but not essential), probably a bit smaller than the galaxy. Budget max about
  12. Have included picture (above). Is this the pressure switch near the centre left where the black box is coming out of pipe? Leak in pipe is directly right of the pressure switch (if this is the pressure switch) where it connects to car body in picture.
  13. Would appreciate a bit of help. Got Seat Alhambra 130 bhp TDI (04 reg). Tested air conditioning last week and wouldn't work. Had someone out today who serviced and regassed. He said there were no leaks in system, but was low on gas. Still wouldn't work due to compressor not working. Was told by him it might be the high pressure switch. Am taking it back to him next week if I can't sort it myself. No power is getting to compressor (tested). Have found pressure switch (I think). It is behind the horn at the front of the vehicle? The electrical connection to this has three wires, black one is live (tested). Other is brown, other is striped. Which wire should I bridge with the black wire to bypass the switch to see if the compressor will work? Cannot find my Ford TIS due to moving recently ! Next question Near to the pressure switch the pipe is clamped to the car body and I know it is leaking there (can see a drop of liquid and if you put your finger there it hisses a bit). Have not taken it off yet, but would it be o.k. to repair this leak with rubber hose and 2 jubilee clips, or is there a better method which does not involve buying a new (probably very expensive) pipe? Was doing so well with the air con as well, after reading other people's nightmares, thought I was one of the lucky ones - apparently not !
  14. Thanks people - might take it back one last time and actually sit in the car to check myself the steering wheel is locked straight before alignment as did not before. If I don't get any sense, will take it elsewhere. Thought it was nonsense what he was sprouting, but good to get a second opinion from you lot. Why can't many garges just do a simple job correctly?
  15. Noticed that my front tyres were wearing slighly on the inside, so decided to have my wheel alignment checked. Bloke said alignment was out and it was adjusted - 5 minutes and cost
  16. Tomtom GO is great - new software is coming out soon for the Go, according to information at pocketgpsworld.com, which will make it even better, so might be best holding off for a bit?
  17. Agree with Ivor - TomTom Go is the way to go for Sat Nav. Have one in my alhambra, you can input speed camera database into it and comes with better maps and is much cheaper than original sat nav, which isn't as good: Click on the link below to see how I installed one into the vehicle: TomTom Go Installation
  18. What about a Tomtom Go SAT NAV? Cheaper, much less hassle to fit with arguably better maps and options and you can put speed camera database on it? I agree it proably doesn't look as nice as the proper one cosmetically. Look at my thread about how to install one here Tomtom Go
  19. Or get a Seat Alhambra SE, which has at least same spec as Ghia, for less
  20. Great car - lots of room - you want be disappointed (hopefully) !
  21. Well, been driving about for a few days now, so will update on performance. First thing in a morning, the sat nav unit takes up to 3-5 mins to find the signal (1-3 bars), but when it does, within another few minutes it creeps up to full signal (5 bars). At other times, signal is picked up in less than a minute, with full signal recieved quickly afterwards. Has not dropped the signal once when it is found. To be honest, I'm really well chuffed with the system. I have always liked the idea of Sat Nav and if I could have afforded it, I would have liked the factory fit option, but this is fine for my needs. Not only is it great to use, but a talking point, if you take any passengers - they are well impressed with how accurate it is and how it shows you the bends in the roads, etc., not to mention showing you those dreaded speed - I mean (ahem) - safety cameras ! To finish, hope this thread has helped some people contemplating buying a unit to go for it and hopefully to give you an idea of where the unit can be put without being too obvious.
  22. Well, here's the photos at last ! Working very good. The picture of the windscreen, if you look carefully enough, you can see the aerial of the re-radiating antenna in the middle; the other picture is where the TomTom go now sits. I wired everything in like I said above and am picking up basically a full signal. One tip: don't buy a 2-3 re-radiating antenna - had all sorts of problems with them. Swapped it for a 45cm and it's so much better. Hope this helps some people. The reason I wanted it where it was was basically to deter thieves. It would be better on the windscreen for visibility, but did not want to keep taking it off all the time. Now, I just put a folded newspaper over the Sat Nav and it cannot be seen.
  23. A reradiating antenna does not physically connect to your sat nav unit, hence you do not have to connect an aerial directly to it. The reradiating antenna comes in 3 parts. The first part is the aerial which has a wire on (it's like a flat disk about 2inch square). It's this bit which picks up the satellites, so this bit must be placed where it can see the satellites. The wire bit from that connects to the reradiating antenna (which is about 3 in long, 1 inch wide). This has to be fairly close to the sat nav unit (depending on the type of reradiaiting antenna, this can be up to about 2 m, but closer is better). Then another wire (with a cigarette lighter attachment) goes from the reradiating antenna to the power source. This is what powers the device. Hope this makes sense. Take a look at the picture here: http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/...ating&x=17&y=10
