Aux Heater - Not The Usual Question
blagger1 replied to blagger1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Am looking at this one. Having never used vagcom before, some advice would be good. Cheers. -
Central Locking Failed - Cannot Open Tailgate
blagger1 replied to nigelbb's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Have you tried opening the driver's door first? My 02 Alhambra has a security device which prevents the tailgate opening until the driver's door has been opened. Also, mine won't open if the battery is disconnected because the lock is electronic. -
Tyres Which Ones Give Value For Money
blagger1 replied to gixersteve's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have Avon ZV3s on mine - my local National Tyres & Exhausts did a price match with a site on the internet, although I can't for the life of me remember what I paid. I do remember being pleased with the price though. They seem to be wearing well so far. -
Aux Heater - Not The Usual Question
blagger1 replied to blagger1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks so far - anyone in the north west area with vag com????? -
I have successfully replaced the glow plug and had the aux heater working fine. However, after a year or so it went again, so I replaced the plug again but this time it didn't work :25: So, I have two questions. 1. I remember reading that the diagnostic computer would need to be reset to get the heater working again (although it didn't the first time I replaced the plug.) Is this always the case? I read that disconnecting the battery for 30 mins can do this. 2. What's the best way of testing the plug? I know someone out there will have the answers - they always do :D Cheers

Add me to the (long) list of those with just a blown fuse :25: wrongly indicated on the fuse card. Drove 350 miles back from scottish highlands yesterday (thankfully no rain). Had to stop half a dozen times to clean the screen though. Had checked the fuse (no 24) but it was ok. Spent this morning contemplating taking to a garage to be fixed but came across this post. Thanks once again :D

I had this problem last year and sucessfully replaced the glow plug. When I started the car the blower started straight away and everything has been fine - until a few weeks ago when I got the tell tale white smoke again ^_^ I replaced the plug yesterday but the heater is not working (no heat, no blower :o ). I have read that VAGCOM codes need to be reset (whatever that means!) for it to work again. I didn't do that last time, it just worked straight away. Any ideas anyone?? I have looked for the fuse (anyone know which number it is as the little diagrams aren't all that clear) and tomorrow I am going to take it apart again just to make sure that the multi-pin plug is definitely connected properly). Any help gratefully received.

Replacing Rear Brake Pads
blagger1 replied to blagger1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Will a G clamp do instead of a rewind tool? I used one for the front when I did them......... -
Ok guys, need to replace my rear pads. Have done my front discs & pads six months ago with your help and was just wondering if I can expect any problems? Have noticed that the spring clip in the top of my nearside caliper has disappeared resulting in some play. I get a metallic 'clunk' when I brake (no doubt a result of the aforementioned play. Anyone else had one of these disappear?

Graham - please see LOTS of other posts on this forum reference the aux heater. Most can be fixed at home with a new glow plug (easily bought off ebay for

Did the oil change on Saturday morning. It wasn't til I'd drained the oil that I tried to remove the cap off the filter - it wouldn't budge and could I find my filter remover? No! So I filled up with new oil and replaced the engine shield (b***er of a job I thought, but never mind). My mate's gonna lend me a filter remover so I'll have a go on Tuesday morning. One question - can I remove it now it's full of oil again without losing any oil? It looks like it's level with the top of the engine so I would imagine that if the engine is off the gravity would do it's work and empty the filter. Am I right? Cheers guys. ps the air filter I bought from Halfords was too big so it's gotta go back <_< Don't know whether I picked up the wrong one or theirs is the wrong size?

Glow Plug In Rear Heater
blagger1 replied to Graham Smith's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Did mine last week (check the Aux / Booster Heater thread) Thread is here. Bought mine off eBay for -
Weather here is absolutely pants today  so not going to bother. Will see what tomorrow brings.

Just bought mine from Halfords for

Well spotted that man! Think I'll plump for Halfords own then - cheers for the heads up. Thanks for offering to check it out adrianf. As it happens I've got a Motor World just five minutes from me which is why it seemed appealing. Only 15 minutes to nearest Halfords, so not too bad.

Just found this one for half the price http://www.motor-world.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod_id=9537 Seems too cheap to be true - in my experience you get what you pay for
-
Done a bit of research regarding oil type and it seems you're absolutely right about the VW505.01 type oil adrianf (not that I doubted you  ) Looks like it's very important only to use the absolutely correct oil. Halfords sell their own for

Just wondered if I should expect any dramas doing an oil change. I have read the pinned 'V6 oil change' in the FAQ section. Will mine be the same as the V6? Also, can anyone tell me if the quantity is the same as quoted or the V6, ie 5.7 litres? And lastly, any oil recommendations? Cheers guys and gals.

I came upon this thread whilst being in the same situation as you - ie heater not even trying to start. I started trying to find the temp sensor (which I couldn't!) and the fuse (which I didn't!) and decided to replace the glowplug as everybody's experience in this forum seemed to be that it all boiled down to the glowplug. So, as you can see from my previous few threads, that's what I did today and now it's working perfectly. My advice to you would be to do the same. It's a great feeling to fix it yourself for a fraction of what you'd pay the main dealer.

My plug is a Beru bought off ebay. Didn't check the number so can't confirm whether new or old type - some have wires attached I believe, mine didn't if that's any help.

sanjsanj - sorry, only just noticed yur post and therefore can't tell you the hose diameter ;)

Well guys & gals, Blagger is one very happy bunny :D :D :D ;) Just replaced the glowplug, started her up and hey presto, the aux heater started up after 30 or so seconds. There were no clouds of white smoke it just worked perfectly. I left it running for ten minutes and it got up to temp very quickly. And when I turned her off there was the familiar 'jet engine' sound back again ;) I'm very happy to report that I did not have to reset the fault code in the ECU using VAGCOM. It took me 1 3/4 hours. It wasn't a difficult job, just a bit fiddly getting the unit out. There was virtually no slack in the cable, and that made it difficult to weedle out from it's mounting. I didn't remove any of the hoses - just the exhaust and the other pipe that is next to it. Big thanks to everyone for the help & advice. :D
-
Cheers for that. I'm in Runcorn, Cheshire - willing to travel a bit if necessary. Anyone out there if needed???????
-
I just hope I get away with not having to reset just like stevie m today. I take it I'll have to go to the main dealers to get them to reset it if necessary will I? Or do you think my local garage will be able to do it? Is it a 'big' job to reset it?
