Mounis Posted August 25, 2006 Report Posted August 25, 2006 Hi guys, quick question, I have an Xreg 1.9tdi and am having problems with the dual mass flywheel and clutch... am thinking of changing it all myself - am a reasonable mechanic...anything I should consider?? Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted August 26, 2006 Report Posted August 26, 2006 To change the clutch on the Gal you will need to remove the nearside engine mounting completely thus you will need to be able to support the engine from above while removing the gearbox from below, a four post lift and a rig to support the engine was my only solution. PS the standard time is sonething like 5 hours so I would allow at least one full day with good equipment also make sure you have some quality Torq bits or its all gonna end in tears. I have done two now and they are defo the most unfriendly change I have ever done, the offside drive shaft hosuing is an absolute nightmare to remove and refit. Best of luck oh and by the way I am a good mechanic too, to the point where I wrote all the training manuals for Nissan europe so as I say Good Luck Quote
polski Posted November 5, 2006 Report Posted November 5, 2006 Hi i have just changed the release bearing in my wifes galaxy.this was just plain awkward.you need to have spline tools, as well as spanners and sockets. nothing too special. just lots of patience and time. i have changed loads of engines / boxes, but this one was just plain awkward. i didnt have a problem with driveshafts, but i was careful to mark the position of the o/s housing so i could re align it properly. if you want me to tell you what i took off, let me know. polski Hi guys, quick question, I have an Xreg 1.9tdi and am having problems with the dual mass flywheel and clutch... am thinking of changing it all myself - am a reasonable mechanic...anything I should consider?? tim-spam Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Is it not possible to support the engine on a trolley jack during removal of the gearbox? The reason for this question is that, should mine ever need doing, I will do it myself (and I always like to be prepared). In addition, there are some who say that removal of the complete offside engine mounting also requires the engine to be supported from above, but I found it completely satisfactory to use a trolley jack from below when changing the cambelt. MadBaz Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 Its possible but it could end in tears, whilst manouvering gearbox out. I held my engine with hoist and lowered gbox with trolley jack, then I switched when replacing gbox. and when gbox was bolted on the lot was supported by hoist which gave me the manouverability for re-attaching mounting etc. Hoists are available from most tool hire places, I paid 50 quid inc vat for the week inc del & pick-up, would have been about 30 quid but I got rained off. One thing I didn't have to do is drop the cross member as it says you have to on TIS and in Haynes. Quote
tim-spam Posted November 6, 2006 Report Posted November 6, 2006 So, basically possible, but risky. In that case, as I'm about to have a new garage roof, I shall make sure that a beam is incorporated of sufficient strength to support a winch. Quote
