Masked Marauder Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 what the dickens is a dual mass flywheel ? Conventional flywheels are made from a single billet of high quality steel and the flywheel is cut and made from that, machined into a single piece. A dual mass flywheel has the center facing and the back plate from the high quality billet steel. The problem is you must fit the parts together in a way that allows for the transfer of power from the engine to the transmission. This is normally done with springs and pins which make the take up of power smoother and help with damping engine vibrations. My next door neighbours brand new Mondeo had to go back at 3 weeks old when the dual mass flywheel failed. http://www.rv8.ch/images/articles/20050130151813622_1_original.JPG Quote

Davetheref Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 As far as the years go, mine is a 2003. So I bet it means all of the 2003 130 ps at least. Quote
Triple Trouble Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Hi, I have not received my notice yet, will the clutch be replaced at the sam etime as theDMF? With many thanks, Chris Quote
Davetheref Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 It says on the recall notice that all will be replaced new incuding the clutch. Quote
Marky Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Booked mine in at the local dealers yesterday, they were fully awareof the recall and then told me it was at least a 'two day job'!!!No chance of a courtesy car even though they are 'repairing' a manufacturing/engineering fault on my 25 grand car !!!! This may sound a bit over the top but I would advise anyone to take picturesof their Gal before it goes to the dealer, exterior and under the bonnet/undertray.Ford 'technicains' are not renowned for their ability to follow the good ol' Haynes process of 'refitting is a reverse of the above procedure' !!!!! Can we please try and keep this post going with your experiences (good or bad)when this recall has been completed. Good Luck Quote
Tigger Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Also booked in about a week now waiting for parts. No problem with another car though. just have to wait till one is available. My problem is all athat tingkering around what else will they dislodge? Quote
wjfe Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Sorry Guys I'm a bit confused, What model and years does this recal relate to??? Thanks Bill Quote
Triple Trouble Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Just booked mine in as well, no probs with courtesy car, but will have to wait till 25 May! Parts not in yet but imminent - morale : check before taking Gal in!!!! Originally told 1 day, but as mine is the first car they will have done under this recall, they want to be on the safe side and have it for 2 days - that's confidence inspiring (not)!!!! I'll keep you updated with devs.. Cheers Chris Quote

Another?Maybe! Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 I hope and assume that although mine is a 2003 model, as it was built in Nov 03 and the recall ends at cars built up to 31/08/03 I will not be affected. But what happened after Aug 03 to make later vehicles ok if Ford have only just issued the recall? Marky Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Well, the so called technicians have had my Gal for two days to dothe Flywheel recall and a 30k service, they called me to say it was readyapart from the radio code needed entering and had I got it? I explainedthat I did and I would sort it out when I got it back so along I went tocollect it and here is the list of problems they left me after giving themmy car for two days and Quote
buford_t_justice Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 FYI: Ford issues recall for Galaxy models09 May 2006 Quote
Another?Maybe! Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Guess I may be ok then, but how do they know?? Is it better to be burnt than scalded? The recall dates would indicate that I continue to drive in ignorance at what might happen in the future rather than let the Ford "technicians" loose on the car to right one problem and cause several more which has always seemed to have happened in the past. Why do I always have the sinking feeling that my car is used for the Techs to learn on whilst still charging their maximum hourly workshop rate?! Quote
shepheap Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Following the failure of my flywheel my local FOrd had the vehicle for 17 days waiting for parts etc. When they returned it the engine was still rough and underpowered and the gearbox (previously smooth) notchy. THey had it in for another 11 days, replaced the MAF and MAP sensor, reprogrammed the ECU and gave it back Saturday. This morning I gave it back to them as it still is rough and loses power after 2000rpm, has a notchy gear box and to top it all there is a tapping noise from what I think is the auxiliary heater fuel pipe when running. None of this was present prior to the failure of the flywheel. Happy days. :D Quote
Davetheref Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Mines in today for the work. They have said all done in 1 day no problem. Almost didn't though as the parts only came in late yesterday. Now, it will be interesting to see what happens as I have had nothing go wrong on my Gal since new (thats the kiss of death straight away) and it has been running ok. Guest Carl Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Had our flywheel recall done last Thursday/Friday, loan car was delivered to and Galaxy picked up from my wife's place of work, returned next day all work done. We have used the car over the weekend no problems. Work done by Essex Ford Southend on Sea. Carl Quote
Davetheref Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Knew it was too good to be true.Went to pick up the Gal and they said they need to keep it for another day as there is a noise now coming form underneath and they need to investigate. At least they gave me a car to use now (would not in the first instance). Quote
mumof4 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Is that translated as.."weve done summit we shouldnt have and now have to find out how to fix it?" I hope all ok!!  Quote
shepheap Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Having deposited mine back with TC Harrison Ford, Peterborough with lack of power on Monday for the second time (they originally had it for 17 days to do the the flywheel after it failed completely, then 11 days with continued problems to replace the MAF and MAP sensor), ...... .....on Tuesday they phoned to say they thought they had solved it by replacing an 'Air intake pipe', found an oil leak and fixed it, but then found it was still wrong .... .....and then today phoned to say they had ordered a new turbo!!!! There can't be much left of any value to replace. But as long as they keep doing it under the warranty that ran out on 10th May I don't really care!!! Quote
Davetheref Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Got it back and all appears ok ,touch wood. The clutch does feel a lot sharper now and I stalled it twice on the way home but at least no strange noises the garage said they heard. Quote
