it may not be as simple as a bad connection

as mine would work again for a bit if you tapped it or twisted it a bit bcause it would move the brushes in the motor enough to make contact again.

I think gazza007 also has this on his one.

keep your eye on it as 90k seems to be about the life of the pump as thats when mine started playing up

Hi Guys

well as predicted the Aux pump finally gave up the ghost. I took a chance and bought a second hand one off Ebay for

Well, all done now inc pollen filter.

To be honest a work colleague did it who's done all my other bits over the years.

He couldn't believe that the pollen filter was in a such a stupid position, backs of his hands all scraped. Nice quiet buzz after shutdown. Will be interesting to see if aux heater runs a little longer now.

Anyway he said it took him 1.30 & only wanted

Hi All

I had a problem with my brakes squealing which after a few hours of work on Saturday has now been cured - But.... I now notice a missing noise!! :)

I don't seem to hear the pump that reamins on after the engines stopped any more.

I know some members have had problems with this and I don't want to be looking at

This might seem a silly question but seeing as my pump is missing completely I thought I`d ask.

Does the pump run constantly when the engine is running, or as the name tends to suggest, does it only operate once the engine is shut down ?

It runs the whole time the engine is on and for a few minutes after turning off. With the run-on pump not turning or absent and bypassed, the auxiliary heater will not see enough coolant flow, so it will cut-out on overheat.

Frankly I am sceptical about the cooling effect on the turbo and cylinder head. There are plenty of VAG TDI engined cars which have no aux heater and no run-on pump and the turbo bearings and oil pipe are just fine if you change the oil regularly, possibly even the exact same engine codes, though I've not checked. IMO the pump runs on because the aux heater needs the flow to carry on while it cools down, the same reason the aux heater itself carries on running for a little while after turn-off.
