first of all see if you have a small black o-ring on the spindle ???? if so take it OFF, it will jam up on you

then rest it over a block of wood, put the nut back on the spindle to cover the threads and whack it with a hammer!! or use a large socket rested on the floor--put wiper body over it and hit the spindle out. you will need emery paper or similar to polish spindle back to accepatable state before trying to refit it.

TAKE CARE AS THE WIPER BOXES ARE ALLOY AND BREAK EASILY !!! i repaired mine with that metal putty stuff , but i know one person who has fabricated his own ends and welded them back on.

If mine are anything to go by you may have to "REPEATEDLY BASH IT HARD" I used a No3 Thor copper and it needed an awful lot of bashing, I really couldn't believe that the motor could move the wipers at all - done mine twice now -the second time I used a 'dremel' with flexible shaft to clean all of the oxide out of the housing between the upper and lower bearing surfaces- bean a few years and not had to repeat ......

I have been trying since yesterday and its not budging. Even soaked it in fluid overnight. What I did manage to do was put it in a vice and just manage to move it up to the thread but it still didn't want to move hence why I thought maybe a puller would do the job but I couldn't find any long enough.

Got a new one today.. cost and arm & a leg :P

Your details say you have a "Galaxy S-Max MK3 2007 " does that mean that Ford are using the same linkage as the MK2 galaxy - did you break your linkage ? if not and you are somewhere close to shefford/hitchin perhaps I can help with the old one - could always recon it and sell on ebay to help recoup cost of new one :-)

I am indeed near Hitchin/Shefford. Luton to be exact. I do not own any Galaxies. I work on them. That linkage wouldn't budge, so in the end I got a new linkage.

The linkages are not the same on newer models AFAIK. Even the MK2 Galaxy has 2 different linkages available. Do you have a salvage place somewhere? I use Barton Breakers for Ford bits.

Thank you thank you thank you to all who have posted on here without you I could not have done any of this:

Removed linkage from Galaxy, unseized drivers side spindle, replaced linkage into Galaxy, snapped stud off on top of passenger side spindle, went to breakers and got another linkage, removed linkage from Galaxy again, replaced spindle with snapped stud with good one from breakers, remember to fit new pollen filter this time, replaced linkage into Galaxy.

All that is left to do is fit and position the wipers and Bob's your Aunty's live in lover..job done....

Again Thank you all

Been reading this thread with interest.

I too now seem to have a most recent issue with the front wiper juddering across the screen/ stopping starting.

My Galaxy is a Mk2 2.3i on a 2003 plate.

I can't click on links at the moment but are there any links/pictures that show how the repair/fix should be done via this site for a Mk2?

Do I need to dismantle the wiper mechanism or is there a quick fix I can try first?

An update,

Not long after my above post I did what Spitfirmac suggested, just drilled a couple of holes with my trusty Dremel, with linkage in situ', in to spindle casing, drenched spindles with spray copper lube, worked instantly, wipers still going good.

I would have posted so much earlier with a thank you post but could not get back into the forums,-----belated thanks.

Hi everyone - i drilled the holes and wipers are great - only 1 problem - i lost one of the retainer clips that sit on top of the spindle - how important is it - like i know it serves a purpose but wondering if it ill do without or if i need to find a new clip? - if so can i use wipers in the meantime?

Thanks

Rob

My turn for this problem came along last week, and I ended up spending about four hours on removal, cleaning and regreasing etc.  About half the time was spent freeing up one of the spindles which was seized absolutely solid.  Apart from that it was relatively straightforward job!  What it made it a lot easier was having first seen the instructions, gotchas and photos about this issue from other forum members, so a big thank you to everyone who has posted about this, it was a huge help.
