Door Card Removal

OK, this is for the benefit of others, (well, those who don't know how to remove door cards :unsure:)

 

In this edition, i will show you how to remove the door cards, on the MKII Ford Galaxy, and here is the best bit - WITH PICTURES!. all you need to remember, everything clips into something else!

 

OK, step 1.

On the door handle (the bit you use to pull the door shut), where the grip part is, that pulls off.

Now comes the time, to prize the door off - very carefuly.

 

I used a large screwdriver, placing it as close to the 'points' as possible, and then leavering it off (i think there is a special tool for this, but a flat head screw driver will do)

Great post Matt, i would just like to share some additinal helpful info. Here's a photo showing all location of the yellow clips because there is always one you gonna miss. :rolleyes:

If you take your time and lift / slide the door card upwards and NOT "prize off" you wont need new yellow clips as you shouldnt break them.....

 

Most people will have realised this if they have followed the above procedure.

Just replaced the drivers door mirror on a 06 Galaxy. Excellent post and thread. mumo4 and A&Z are correct. I believe the design of the Yellow fixings is such that they should be slid upward and not prized off (on my door this had been done previously and broken off the plastic receiver on the card for the fixing).

 

Additionally, on mine, as the card comes off, I needed to disconnect the door latch pull cable at the latch end and the cable connector to the alarm LED on the door.

I don't have access to the door card removal images but it confirmed for me that I have done the right thing except that getting the handle out is quite tricky. It is not so straightforward.

On my 2004 Galaxy there is no leavering to do. When the two 10mm bolts that hold the grab handle to the metal have been removed the whole door card can be removed with a vertical motion. Some of the wires are not very long so go carefully. The door handles are connected by a flexible cable which can be unclipped.

big thanks for all contributors to this post. I had to repair both rear passenger looms that had multiple wire breakages. Just to also confirm that the panel was easily removed by sliding up and off and replaced by pushing on and down (though took a few attempts to get all clips located in the slots. Great post!

Great thread this. Does it matter what type of speaker you put in i.e Component, coaxial etc.

It appears that the Sony's shown earlier had a tweeter on them. I'm no expert on speakers by any means, but from having a little look into it, it appears that the reccomended speakers for the front doors are Component, as the tweeters are located elsewhere in the car.

 

I'm assuming it doesn't make much difference?

I am just about to tackle my rear doors as the central locking is not working on the one door and I have an elec window issue with the other rear door.

You dont  leaver it off, you push the door card up  to release card from clips as door card brackets are slotted on the  underside.

Thanks for the instructions on removing the door card. Just saved me a fortune :-)
Local garage wanted an hour for diagnosing the problem but said it was probably the lock mechanism which needed replacing.

Thanks to your instruction and 20 minutes I found 2 broken wires and fixed it with a couple of bits of wire and a soldering iron.

 

As an aside is it common for the wires from the frame to the door to break? I found 2 broken on the rear door and 4 with missing coating :-(

but sadly it looks like the mk3 and the smax are suffering the same fate.

Try checking the one on the drivers side of the boot if you think those are bad - that will almost definitely be worse due to the angles involved.

 

At least its an easier fix than some cars suffer with though

Ha ha ha, I agree bit of a design "burp" for sure! It would not be a Ford though without a few little oddities :)
