clockie Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 I am very new owner(5 days) of an 1996 Galaxy. Discovered rear passenger door would not (central) lock. Found broken wires on the so called flexible joint ! Brought the Haynes manual for the Galaxy which answers a lot of the questions I see asked on this forum. Got the door card off ok and the vapour barrier (by cutting the black sealant) New door wiring loom on order from Ford's at 42 GBP's Now my question, how do I reseal the vapour barrier back to the door. Many thanks all you very helpful chaps. Clockie Quote
mumof4 Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 The Haynes doesnt cover the MKII or the MKIII Galaxys unfortunately. as for the vapour barrier, no idea, one of my doors didnt even have it on so thats how i could tell work had been done on it before. Double sided sticky tape maybe? ( not joking either as the rear number plate on the gal was stuck on with the stuff, called a quick fix  ) Quote
davec Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 used caravan sealant for mine thin bead stays flexible and cleans off easy, about Quote
skippy 2 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 MATT,The pictures came in very handy this week-end as i had an irritating rattle from behind the door card. This was taken off by the body shop when they fixed the dent in the door after a guy scraped the complete side of the car when my wife was parked and the punk drove off without stopping! Bad luck for him she recognised who it was, had a witnes and after a phone call he came back, still denying it was him, anyway, all settled on (his!) insurance. The support beam at the bottom inside of the door card was broken off when the 'experts' removed it and that was rattling. Managed to glue it back on with super glue and put it all back together for 1 of the three screws to fall into the door card....Anyway, did it all over again and rattle has gone. Door cards seem to be made of cake though....FDMcah point cyri, if it is that simple and you have done it before why is it you threw your toys out of your pram at the point you had taken off the door card? I noticed a teddy lying on the drive. Ha Ha!! A serious question for you though you know the clips slide in on the card and push onto the door panel does this mean that the door card can be slid off instead of prised off it would make sense woudn't it. Quote
stevie m Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 That would be awkward to put back on that way. I just took mine off. Those plugs can be a bit of a bum to get out of the door. Good job i got some spares from frauds first. :D Got to admit my toys nearly got thrown !!! :D  Quote
searcher Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Just take your time and they will come off ok. Done all four of mine a few weeks ago to change the speakers Quote
mumof4 Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 skippy, the door cards can just slide up and off as i have done it, bugger to put back on that way though.have to give the door card a wee bit of a whack from underneath . Quote
nightmangolf Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 Hi, had my gal about a year now and have just noticed that the front passenger speaker just crackles. The information provided here has cleared up my worries of having to change the speakers. Cheers Quote
nikkimh Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Thank you for this - the pictures make it so much easier. I need to fix a loose connection to the speaker. This may seem like a silly question but I'm new to all this: do I need to disconnect the battery before I start fiddling about with the wires so I don't get electrocuted? Quote
mumof4 Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 well i didnt when i did mine.,LOL. speaker wires will be easy to sort if they just loose. Quote
austin Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 can i ask where you guys got the speakers from and howmuch please?cheersaustin Quote
A&Z Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Just changed my door speakers and mumof4 is spot on (on my 2003 at least!) Remove the handle and the 2 (or 3 on drivers door) bolts as described. Make sure you remove the bolts completely, mine didn't fall out so I grabbed them with some pliers. Firmly grab the bottom front (hinge side) of the panel and pull sharply up, repeat at the back, the panel will unclip with no damage to the clips. To refit the panel, check all the wires are refitted or in place.Hang the panel on the panel on the top of the door. With a small amount of pressure in the middle rear edge and bottom of the panel - lift the panel carefully and you will feel the panel locate on the clips.Keeping pressure on the panel, slide down firmly until the panel feels located (may not be fully down).Repeat the lift whilst pressing, locate and slide down on the front edge.- I found the centre bottom location took care of itself - check there is no gap under the middle of the panel. Now press firmly down on the panel frant and back - the panel clicks into place. This worked on all 4 doors, with one door being done a few times whilst measuring and fitting the first speaker. No clips were broken - 1 clip did fall out and was refitted. Hope this helps someone! Thanks again to "mumof4", who saved me from levering the panels off  P.S. Speakers are JBL GTO Series - which I highly recommend for clear and undistorted sound. TIP - look for rubber surrounds and a weather resistant cone (rigid plastic-like material) Quote
Sam N Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Just wanted to say a BIG thank you for this posting. ..nothing worse than discovering no Haynes manual for my Mk2 2001 Galaxy, the door rattle from hell and not knowing where to start to get the door card off! Nice one guys! Sam N Quote
Animal169 Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Great stuff thanks! Basically any 17cm round speakers will fit straight in!! Quote

markne Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 I think the lock micro switch is faulty on my rear passenger door (door locks - unlocks- locks - unlocks when I lock the car so it is always unlocked!!) I want to check the wiring to the door befoer I go through the door card removal process so daft question but: How do you get the rubber boot off? I had a play and it didn't seem obvious and I don't want to break something by forcing it.. :P Less daft question - does anyone know where the micro switch is on the lock and where I can get a replacement (I saw them on ebay for Quote
