marcus1 Posted May 29, 2015 Report Posted May 29, 2015 Hello, I just joined the forum as i have just started driving a galaxy. I am driving an 02 Galaxy V6 2.8 which is a super car, it has been used by a family member for an eon The AC has not been used for ages before I got it, maybe last re-gassed about 10 years ago, so today went to a garage who plugged it into their machine, it sucked all a tiny amount of refrigerant out, vacuumed out the oil for about 15 minutes, then did a vacuum test for leaks which it passed, they then added 1g of oil and 1050g of refrigerant. The thing still doesn't appear to be cooling properly, the fan is running, before I left the mechanic checked on the machine it seems that compressor was working fine, the high pressure side was well up on the gauges on his machine. The garage said try it see if it improves. Anyone have any ideas please Thank you Marcus Quote
SilverBeast Posted May 30, 2015 Report Posted May 30, 2015 Have you got single or "dual" climate control. The dual has vents in the roof lining above the 2nd and 3rd row of seats. Does the Climate Control display flash for a few seconds when you first turn the ignition on< 1050g is for the dual climate control, if they have put this much in on a single climate control vehicle it will be overfilled and I don't think it will work. There should be a label on the top of the front panel (where the front edge of the bonnet closes to cover it) on the left hand side as you look at it that lists both the single and dual capacities, along with how much oil it takes. There is also a "drier" cartridge that can be replaced that removes moisture from the system. However, the mobile air-con guy who did mine says it was the only Galaxy he had ever done where he could get it out without having to replace the whole receiver. Quote
chromedome Posted May 30, 2015 Report Posted May 30, 2015 Sounds like it's been over filled. I would doubt if yours has dual a/c as standard. If over filled the pressure switch kicks in and stops the system to prevent damage. Same thing happens when low pressure applies. Quote
marcus1 Posted May 30, 2015 Author Report Posted May 30, 2015 Hi Thank you for the replies, yes this has a dual system with separate temperature controls for the front and back. There are two sets of roof vents one for the middle seats and one for the back. The display does flash for a few seconds when I start up. The chaps who did it have a super machine that they put on it and it runs for 10 minutes running a vacuum to try and dry the system. Once it had been refilled with a gram of oil, the car was started and it appears as though there is a little cooling but its not AC cold, and the bloke said the compressor seemed to be fine on pressure, as the dial on his machine showed both HP and LP stages. Thank you once again Marcus Quote
SilverBeast Posted May 30, 2015 Report Posted May 30, 2015 Flashing on startup indicates it has detected a fault. There will be a fault recorded in the system. I suggest you get a VAG-COM/VCDS-LITE lead (about £5 on eBay) and scan with the free software. It will more than pay for itself with this and the rest of the vehicle electronics (including the engine). It may be a faulty hi/lo pressure switch or the wiring connection to it. This is situated behind the bumper cover in front of the right front wheel. Quote
marcus1 Posted May 30, 2015 Author Report Posted May 30, 2015 Thank you, will get the thing and find out what is happening. Will then come back, Thank you once again Quote
SilverBeast Posted May 31, 2015 Report Posted May 31, 2015 Is it possible to run VagCom on Mac?Not according to the authors website (Ross Tech) even when using virtualisation. Quote
marcus1 Posted May 31, 2015 Author Report Posted May 31, 2015 Sunday Morning update The thing still doesn't seem to get cold but the display does not flash at all straight onto the temperature settings Quote

SilverBeast Posted June 3, 2015 Report Posted June 3, 2015 When mine was completely empty before I had it repaired I don't recall it ever flashing. Mine was returned twice as tested, refilled and working, and it did for maybe an hour..... When eventually fixed it was pressure tested with dry nitrogen for a good 30 minutes and vacuumed down and left for a good 30min to check it wasn't leaking before being refilled. When it was first pressure tested we could hear the hissing from the common failure point under the drivers headlight so we knew where to fix it. If you read this thread it has more details, though I started it on a completely different subject it but it does mention quite a bit about my problems with the air con. Quote
marcus1 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Report Posted June 6, 2015 Hi, Thank you for all the help, took it to my chum yesterday who has a box for reading codes It said it was intermittent communication with the pressure valve, the fault was cleared, engine started & AC started no codes present, we will reread them on Monday to see if it comes back after a few days. The AC still did not work. Q1 Should I get that valve changed?Q2 What are the best type I saw elsewhere people said Ebay, but there are lots of them on there I am sure this will be sorted Thank you Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 Check the wiring to your valve first. It's in front of the drivers wheelarch liner under the bumper cover. The pressure switch is on the vertical pipe to the left of the top horn in this picture. It's not unknown for the wiring to fail or the switch to break. Quote
