Pepper Red Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 Hi Guys Have had my MK 2 TDI 2003 for three years and never heard the Auxiliary heater come on except for the other day when ( like a lot of posts on here have said) I heard a noise like a jet engine and wondered what the hell it was.!It was a cold morning around 4 degrees and since then it comes on if its below 10 degrees and having read up on it on this site I now know how and when it should work.I had a Ford diagnostic done just before for another fault so maybe they cleared a previous fault on the heater which is why it's decided to work.? My question is what fuse can I pull to stop it working as on morning's where its around 7 or so degrees I don't actually need it on as I don't feel that cold and the trip I do to work is enough to get the engine hot.?Or could I replace the Temp sensor for the heater with a manual switch.?Or should I leave well alone.!In the Ford handbook it shows several fuses associated with the heater as follows:FUSE 3- 3AMPFUSE 9- 5AMPFUSE 12- 25AMPFUSE 19- 5AMPFUSE 27- 25AMPFUSE 33-10AMP Thank you in anticipation Quote
chrispb123456 Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 The idea of the heater is to get the engine up to normal operating temperature as quickly as possible and allow warm/hot air from the heater units in the car.Due to the size of the cooling/heating system and these efficient engines producing little heat they need the help of the booster heater to achieve this.Replacing the thermo switch with your own switch wired inside the car is a good idea and has been done by members and stops the heater firing up for short journeys which is not good for these heaters. Fuse 12 is the one to remove to disable the booster. Quote
