Hi,

The local garage has told me it appears as though my boost sensor is faulty on my AUY 2001 1.9 TDi Galaxy, located at the rear bottom of engine behind a plate.

To get a secondhand I need to find out the part number. Anyone know this?

Also anyone have steps on how to replace? Is it tricky?

Thx in advance

Mr Noob.

This is the VW part no. 1J0906627A last one I got was £46 inc vat

What problems are you having? have you had it scanned? what was the fault codes?

The boost valve is located on the bulkhead over the top of the engine behind a small heat shield, you will see three valves there, the boost valve or N75 is the left one as you under the bonnet.

No Chris, that part is the boost solenoid valve (N75) and not the boost pressure sensor.

The boost pressure sensor is more commonly known as the MAP sensor and on the AUY engine is located in the plastic boost pipework - see item 23 here

The part no is 038 906 051 or 038 906 051B dependent on engine no.

Readily available on ebay.

Mk1 tdi's used to have them inside the ECU which was located as described in the OP's post.

I agree with what your saying Seatkid but the OP had said it was behind a plate, the MAP sensor is one of the easiest parts to see and replace on the MK2

Perhaps jbgt2 can confirm which part he's talking about.

Good pictures.

With Mk2 diesels, often boost problems are misdiagnosed as a faulty N75 valve, but in most cases are sticky turbo vanes/actuator and/or damaged/leaky vacuum pipes. MAP sensors can be faulty, sometimes just gunged up, N75 is probably least likely (but still occurs)

Thx for the replies.

Not sure of the fault code but he said the turbo was shutting down due to over boost and said the boost sensor was more than likely at fault. After he took it off and put it back on the car was sound for 4-6 weeks now its breaking my heart again.

He did say that the turbo appears OK which would be my money concern,

Seems to be a bit of pot luck on what exactly the problem part could be due to all the parts involved.

Remove the MAP sensor - as shown above 1st picture  its easy as its on top of the engine on the boost pipe. Clean it out with brake cleaner or similar, they often get gunked up, 5 mins work may fix it.
