Hi guys,

After owning a mk1 sharan and now a mk2 galaxy tdi, I'm a little confused and baffled by my latest problem....

I've looked through loads of forums including this one and can't seem to see the answer and hope some tech expert on here can help with some answers...

A couple of days ago I connected to the ecu using kwp200plus and downloaded the ecu map to have a look at. It downloaded it ok, but ever since it now won't start!

I put key in and turn to pos.2, I've noticed the glow plug light doesn't come on and the immobiliser light is flashing fast as though it can't read the chip.

This happens with both my keys and the engine just turns and turns and doesn't attempt to fire.

Also I now cannot connect with vcds lite and the cable, it comes up with 'too many communication errors' that's trying to connect to ANY module.

I'm stuck to say the least.....

Any advice would be most gratefully received

I'm no 'tech expert', but coincidences have caught me out before... have you checked relays 30/167?

When your tinkering, and something goes wrong, it's natural to assume it's something you've done.

Can you confirm that:

(i) You were able to start the car and the glowplug light worked normally immediately prior to downloading your ECU map

(ii) The car hasn't started since you downloaded the ecu map

(iii) The failure of the glowplug light to illuminate coincided with (ii) and didn't happen before then. (Just checking that the bulb/led hasn't blown)

What is the year, trim and engine spec (115, 130, 150) of your TDI? This will be useful for checking Fuse/Wiring info as I believe they vary quite a bit (mainly due to engine and build year variation rather than trim).

I would check the following first:-

(i) Inspect the OBD port to check it hasn't been damaged (not likely but it's easy, and I guess a short between some of the connections could prevent VCDS communicating and possibly the ECU/Immobiliser from operating)

(ii) All the fuses in both the cabin and engine bay fuse boxes.  Connecting/disconnecting the cable may have blown a fuse that was supplying power to ECU or Immobiliser.

If you have a Ford TIS CD you can check which fuses supply the ECU/Immobiliser, if you provide vehicle details someone may be able to check this for you.

Assuming the problem hasn't been caused by you connecting to the car with the KWP200 I would certainly check fuse 14 and relay 109 as yours is the TDI

Does seem a coincidence if this has just happened since using the above.
