I have a 52 plate mk2 1.9 diesel, the door controls, on the drivers side sometimes stop working. If I stop and lock the car they sometimes start working. If I disconnect the battery for a short time they work for a couple of days, then start doing the same thing again. Has anyone else had this problem or is it like I suspect the main brain.

Anyone got any ideas that may help, it would be much appreciated.

You need to pull back the rubber gaitor between the door and car and check for damaged wiring. Normally the insulation cracks and the wiring shorts out or the wires break completely. You will need to solder in new pieces of wire.

The other way is to buy a new loom, loads of money.

Its a common issue - theres some more detailed instructions in the faq secton on doing it, Replacing the damaged sections is really the only way to go (don't try bodging in connectors or twisting the wires together it will cause you more problems!)
