Autoboxes

Hi all

can someone tell me if the 2.8 petrol uses the same auto gearbox as the smaller engines and diesels,  there seems to be a lot of failures from reading on here and i was thinking of swopping for an auto.

were all the auto boxes vw made or were the failures from ford ?

or are they all as bad as each other as more reading seems to suggest.

The ratio's will be different between petrol and diesel.

The 4 speed is VW model  O1P

The 5 speed is Japanese (Jatco) model JF506e

 

I wouldn't be put off by having an auto, we've had one for 10 years now, yes they do go wrong with age as does any auto on any car.

Thanks,   i was looking at a 2.8 auto with 75,000 miles on and wondering if thats classed as a high milage for this kind of box, the owner says he's had no work done on the box so i was a little concerned.

well we bought the car  after a test drive , i was surprised how smooth it was compared to my last auto over 20 years ago   a sweeney ford granada,   the vagcom shows no faults on the gearbox   so am hoping it will carry on for a good few years yet,  i did find on a forum somewhere it was early boxes that were prone to fail and later boxes had been modified in someway.
