marinabrid Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 Hi allcan someone tell me if the 2.8 petrol uses the same auto gearbox as the smaller engines and diesels, there seems to be a lot of failures from reading on here and i was thinking of swopping for an auto.were all the auto boxes vw made or were the failures from ford ?or are they all as bad as each other as more reading seems to suggest. thanks Quote
chrispb123456 Posted June 27, 2014 Report Posted June 27, 2014 The ratio's will be different between petrol and diesel. The 4 speed is VW model O1PThe 5 speed is Japanese (Jatco) model JF506e I wouldn't be put off by having an auto, we've had one for 10 years now, yes they do go wrong with age as does any auto on any car.Ours was done about 3 years ago at a cost of Quote
marinabrid Posted June 27, 2014 Author Report Posted June 27, 2014 Thanks, i was looking at a 2.8 auto with 75,000 miles on and wondering if thats classed as a high milage for this kind of box, the owner says he's had no work done on the box so i was a little concerned. Quote
marinabrid Posted July 6, 2014 Author Report Posted July 6, 2014 well we bought the car after a test drive , i was surprised how smooth it was compared to my last auto over 20 years ago a sweeney ford granada, the vagcom shows no faults on the gearbox so am hoping it will carry on for a good few years yet, i did find on a forum somewhere it was early boxes that were prone to fail and later boxes had been modified in someway.
