Russats Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 I have a Seat Alhambra 1.9 TDi 2000 (MK2) It leaks oil from the offside of the intercooler, I don't think it's from the pipe joint although I'm not sure. It only leaves a small oil patch on the ground after you stop so I assume it only leaks while it's running. I've had other people tell me it's a Turbo Fault Any ideas? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 Droplets of oil will always be present in the intercooler pipe work as it is also connected to the engine breather pipe. The fact that oil is leaking from the crimped end of the intercooler will eventually result in loss of air charge which would mean a loss in power and possible limp mode.Repaired or replacement intercooler required. Russats Posted March 23, 2014 Author Report Posted March 23, 2014 It does go into limp mode at times, switching it on and off seems to clear it. Would it definitely be the intercooler and not the turbo? Thanks for the response Quote
daddyfixit Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 car needs scanning for codes. oil will always make its way to the lowest point in the pipework, the oil gets in there because of the breather system. why not remove the pipes, clean them out with jizer/gunk and wipe them dry--refit and see if it was just a build up of oil making its way down the pipes due to gravity ? but if its leaking from the intercooler body, different story-----remove and repair with epoxy or 2-pack putty ??? or get a new one fitted. an oil leak wont cause the limp mode though. Russats Posted March 23, 2014 Author Report Posted March 23, 2014 I've removed the pipe before now and it is dry. It appears the oil is coming directly from the intercooler, is it an easy repair? Quote
Russats Posted March 23, 2014 Author Report Posted March 23, 2014 Would fitting a new one be a simple remove & replace? Quote
traff Posted March 28, 2014 Report Posted March 28, 2014 if you are up for it ,heres how, without removing the aircon....first remove both pipes from intercooler then..pull off trim pannel under the bumper...the bit that covers the towing eye.....you will see a grp pannel with bumps in ......under these bumps are the bolts that hold the intercooler in place......4 of.......to get to these take a big drill bit, and drill through the bumps...you then need to undo the 4 10mm bolts that hold the unit ...when youve done you dont need to cover the drilled out holes ......as the trim pannel covers all..or use black silicone Quote

Lol Would this faulty intercooler be what is causing overheating?? Quote
