2008 Galaxy TDCi 1.8 (Please note my profile shows a 1.9TD, thats my '98 Galaxy)

Driving at 20 mph and heard a 2 second 'grinding' noise, then again 100 yards further, pulled over so car running on tick over. Car cut out.

Tried re-starting with just cranking but not firing.

Cambelt not turning.

What is the best way forward with this?

If it's cambelt or tensioner failure then you will certainly have damage to valve train and possibly piston damage.

Cylinder head will need removing to inspect damage.

How much mileage done since last belt change?

Posted

On 100k currently, belt last changed at 60k.

Is removing cyclinder head a quick and easy job?

Thankyou for your help

Sorry, maybe I am mistaken, cylinder head is different to the rocker cover which would be 5 mins to remove if I am correct.
