Hi All

How the heck do I renew the front sidelight bulb. I have read the manual but tells me to remove a screw underneath the housing then slide out the unit, this does not apply to my car, there is No such screw. I have also searched on the internet but the only other mention I have found is to unscrew the screws on the front of the unit, yet again no blasted use. To me I have one of two options left and that is put the car on ramps crawl underneath the car undo the engine compartment cover and then change the bulbs. The worst option is to pay a over priced garage to do it for me ( don't think so) if the first option is the correct way then I think that's stupid even more so with me with 3 discs bulging in my spine. Hope you helpful lot can help.

Cheers

welcome to the forum clive,

think you might have to remove the headlight itself?

If yours is the same as mine with the side light with the fog light, I changed my O/S side light bulb by undoing the wheel arch liner and getting in behind the lamp, it's still fiddly but do able.

It says in the book to pull the down and forward to remove but didn't work for me.

Well, this sounds like fun. I thought I had put behind me the dreaded sidelight change on the mk2. I certainly don't miss that as mine used to blow every few months.

Having said that. there was a certain smug satisfaction of finally extracting your hand after getting the bulb fixed in place, yes your hand may have been covered with blood but at least you got one over on the car designer.

It now appears the mk3 will provide similar challenges.

So much better than Sudoku.

I wonder if the guys on the space station floating around in zero gravity face similar difficulties when repairing stuff.

Or didn't Ford tender for that job?

The electronics industry has been going down the path to make it uneconomic to repair anything and the recycling centres are full of virtually new goods with very little wrong with them. I wonder if cars are going the same way. So much for the green revolution.
