well, today I removed the wiper assembly and cleaned out the scuttle drain area of leaves and muck. the area was very wet, but the drains seemed ok.

I have not had any more water into the car since my last post, but it seemed a good idea to clean anyway.

if you do this, then get a new pollen filter to replace while you have easy access. I think I shall leave the floor insulation out of the car until I am happy that no more water is coming in.

Have you looked behind the front plastic wheel arch liners, remove the lower screws that keep the liner in place pull liner out from behind the wing, see all the mud and debris packed into the lower area.

Wash this away then check that area for rot and corrosion which could lead back into the car floor area.

Suzuki, I doubt water is coming in from the floor panel.  I think it will be from the bulkhead which is double skinned in places.  water gets in the double skin and finds a way to trickle out inside the car.  Well that my theory.  I have recently had a problem of water leaking in drivers footwell.  Because I could not get access to the servo area where the water was coming from, I drilled a hole though the bulkhead and sealed the inner panel with silicone.  So far so good, but I am waiting for a big downpour.

all cleaned now, just a little mud and crap in the lower sill of the wings. no plastic fittings in the scuttle drains though. floor is moist but not wet so maybe residue from somewhere?

The only other thing i can think of assuming it isn't leaking from the heater (which provided you have antifreeze in the cooling system has a distinctive smell) is if its leaking round the windscreen. Has the screen ever been replaced?

Otherwise may be time to investigate with a helper and a hosepipe to see where it seems to get in from (work from the bottom upwards slowly till you see more water appearing).

I had water coming in and it turned out to be a rubber grommet where the bonnet release cable goes through the bulk head that had come away.

Might help .

Good luck

water is coming in between the floor pan skins where the spot welded raised central section is.  i had drilled this to let the water out before and this is wet again.

i will try to see where it is getting in from outside when it rains.

just seen the comment about the plastic trim over the wiper blades where it pushes into the clips in the body work. this is the last resort for my leak as the windscreen was replaced a few months ago.

so later i will seal the body work were the plugs for this trim fits.

i cut the insulation to remove it and dry out. i could not find the leak had a new windscreen fitted and checked scuttles, in the end i drilled a few holes to drain the water out as it filled and put everything back.

at least then it did not get soaking wet.
