chrislloydie Posted December 13, 2013 Report Posted December 13, 2013 Noticed an occasional odd rubbing, low chirping noise from the engine when braking sharply. Investigated today and found that when the engine is under load, it moves a fair bit, when you come off the throttle and the engine swings back, it makes the rubbing chirping noise. I checked the stabilizer bolt and its still intact. But the large rubber bush in the end of the stabilzer mount, allowed considerable movement. About an inch of play. This allows the engine to move a fair bit. However, a new stabilizer bar is about Quote
chrislloydie Posted December 14, 2013 Author Report Posted December 14, 2013 Anyone know how much movement there should be in the stabilizer bush? Quote

chrislloydie Posted December 15, 2013 Author Report Posted December 15, 2013 Its the rear bush I need as thats the one that is allowing about an inch of movement. This in turn becomes even more movement when it transfers to the engine. Ive only found one person selling the rear bushes for Quote
viperclive Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 I replaced all three engine mounts on my mk1 2.3 and still had snatching/engine movement so was not happy, I removed the bottom one and decided to put some small bolts through the holes in rear bush with a washer on each end tightened up to make rubber swell, that was two years ago and solved my problem. chrislloydie Posted December 19, 2013 Author Report Posted December 19, 2013 Replaced the engine mount today. Unfortunately the new mount seems to leave pretty much the same amount of engine movement as the old mount. : ( The chirping noise I referred to in an earlier post seems to come from airbox. Quote
