Hi guys ive got a x reg tdi and i was out today delivering parcels in it when i parked on a steep hill, put handbrake on and left it in gear, i got back in went to turn the key and nothing..... no power whatsoever nothing worked i kept trying and still nothing, so i rolled backwards down the hill got it to face the right way and tried to bump but there was no power to the ignition,  on two occassions there was breif power followed by clicking noise coming from the fuse box.  i then managed to roll the car to a small garage where all of a sudden all power returned and she fired up,  when i asked the mechanic in the garage what he thought could have caused this he said it is the starter relay switch and that he has done this job on a few galaxys, is he right?   as i use it to deliver parcels the ignition gets turned on and off quite alot,,,, thanks in advance

check main battery terminals and the auxiliary fuse box mounted next to the battery ?

Either the relay or poor connection on battery terminals and leads to and from starter.

checked battery and leads ect all good..    do you know where i can buy a starter relay from?

Are you 100% positive about the battery fuse box look carefully at the two black cable crimps,

it sounded like the clicking came from the fuse box in the car below the switch for the lights

I had a similar problem with my 2003 tdi auto. Lost power on several occasions but came back after thumping everything electrical ;)

I had an auto electrician look at it and he found nothing wrong - off course the fault never showed when you wanted it. He put in another earth lead from the battery and the problem has never re-occurred.

I blame it on damp getting in after a replacement windscreen wasn't sealed properly and left the fuse box and drivers side footwell soaking wet.

If power was intermitant to the fuse panel you would hear relays making and breaking, although crimps on leads that connect to battery may look ok inside may be a different case, I had a problem where I lost window wipers, it took a while to find but was found to be crimp on end of cable, a good squeeze with mole grips did a temp repair, later removed and did proper solder job.
