dodalexander Posted November 18, 2013 Report Posted November 18, 2013 Hi there, I'm trying to use an EBay cable and VCDS lite to get the fault codes from my auto gearbox. The program is talking to the other controllers (engine, instruments) OK, but it complains that it can't communicate with the auto gearbox controller. Is this the normal behaviour, or should I expect to get some response from the auto gearbox? ThanksGeorge2002 1.9TDi auto Quote
bigdave982 Posted November 18, 2013 Report Posted November 18, 2013 Im not 100%sure but think the gbox is fords own so it wont talk to vcds ,that only works with vw bits But im not sure so you might wanna ignore the above Quote
sparky Paul Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 (edited) Manual gearbox is Ford, but auto gearbox is definitely a VW unit... so I would think VCDS/VAG-COM should work. Hopefully, someone will be along soon with a bit more experience with VAG-COM on the auto box. Apart from the mechanical problems these gearboxes suffer, some have had problems with the wiring loom around the gearbox and/or corrosion in the connectors, which may show up as ECU problems. traff Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 as sparky paul says....vcds will work with the auto box .....suggest you have a wiring issue.....try removing the battery tray and giving the wires a wiggle...then unclip all joints and check for corrosion..... Quote
dodalexander Posted November 19, 2013 Author Report Posted November 19, 2013 Thanks all, I will have a look at the wiring next. The gearbox has a problem with power transfer in 4th and 5th gears, but I want to rule out any electrical cause before getting anything done to the box itself. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Four speed is VWFive speed is Jatco both use a VW controller and will talk to VCDSAuto box ECU is on passenger side inner wing next to battery Quote
