davewill Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 I have decided to trade in my 2010 Gal as it now has 65,000 on it and is 3 years old The old one was a Titanium 140ps Diesel Powershift model I am going for a 2013 Titanium 163 Manual with Panorama Roof The "old gal" has served me well, with only minor problems to talk about (bonnet catch broke, and button on powershift gear knob fell off) The one thing that did annoy me about it though was the "lag" when driving in automatic mode, when you pulled away from an island / junction etc, or tried to do a quick 3 point turn. So gone for the manual version this time, and will see how that goes Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 You mentioned lag.My 140bhp manual has the same problem and it seems to be normal. Symptoms are repeated stalling on take off and an annoying habit of deciding to accelerate after levelling out at 30mph after take off. It also makes smooth changing from 1st to second difficult unless you pull away quickly. I shall be interested in your findings. Quote

Scorpiorefugee Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 "have only ever stalled mine a handful of times,i put it down to being well run in." We've been here before Gregers. I think it would be interesting to see how DaveWill gets on and I hope he gets back. I have eventually stopped (almost) stalling the bl00dy thing but, having driven my old MKII Ghia the other day, I am now even more convinced that the only thing the MKIII has as an improvement is the 12K miles instead of 160K. Everything else is a backward step. Not only that, every time I take it out, which is not very often, someone takes another chunk out of it.   Quote
chrispb123456 Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 I had the stalling issue with my MK3, which went in after nine months old as it was really annoying me know, it would catch you out a the most inopportune moment (roundabouts or junctions) but more so when I reverse on to my drive from the road which is quite steep..They test drove it on the road which of course he didn't stall but on return to the garage I noticed a ramp going up to the roof level in there yard. I said to the chap see how you go reversing from a full lock up the ramp, well after three attempts he managed it albeit that clutch burning smell where he had give it welly to avoid the stall. Unfortunately he said we can't resolve it till Fords do an update to the ECU software. On it's first service (a year ago) again I mentioned the stalling and was told they will check it out. No fault codes present but did do some adjustment to the throttle control which did seem at the time like a marginal improvement but then seemed to return to the original state, so came to the conclusion it was just wishful thinking. I then noticed about September time on the Ford etis site http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do;jsessionid=D7E16551472C8BC2F7EF1713BB19B15C.dulv0679that there was some software updates for my car. So as the car was coming up for it's two year service I would mention this, low and behold it's had it's service and the software update and now three weeks later it's all good and behaving normally. So anyone having similar issues check the site and see if you need an update. My model is a Nov 2011 2.0TDCI 163ps Galaxy Titanium six speed manual. Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Nice one Chris. I'll give it a go. Many thanks - and apologies to davewill for the distraction. Quote
davewill Posted October 29, 2013 Author Report Posted October 29, 2013 Hey guys No problems in adding to my original post, in fact very interesting, as i have managed to stall the new car once, and wasn't really sure whether it was me getting used to a "manual" again, or the car just stalling itself!! Apart from the above (which i will now be aware of) the new car is very nice, and although similar to the old one, is also different!! The 163 ps engine is a smoother and quieter engine than the 140ps The ride quality feels a little firmer on the new car, and the seats are certainly firmer The panorama roof lightens up the interior quite dramatically Subtle changes including coolant temp, and clock on the main dashboard settings are good Ipod connection now in centre armrest box, rather than glovebox Radio / music levels automatically lower when reversing beepers come on These are all initial "findings" and with many many miles to come, i will keep this updated with he pro's and con's Dave Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) Thanks Dave. The added hard ride seems to be due to the 17" wheels and run flat tyres. It seems to give a smooth ride on a smooth surface but give it a few bumps and it bounces around like rolling a ping pong ball down a gravel path. better in the Summer when the rubber is soft but I am dreading winter and poor road conditions. Your comments are interesting since I looked at one or 2 older models before buying my 12 reg pretty well unseen and I am finding it hard to adjust after the comfort of my old MKII Ghia.Chris, I had a look at the site you suggested and it does seem that there is an update to fix the problem as you said but I may have to wait for the next service (8k miles or 5 months) I think it'll be 5 months. One more thought on the same theme. Has the fuel consumption improved at all? Ron. Edited October 29, 2013 by Scorpiorefugee Quote
davewill Posted November 15, 2013 Author Report Posted November 15, 2013 Update Had the car 3 weeks now and done about 1,800 miles in that time Tested the MPG this week on a long journey ,M54, M6, M40, M4, A33 to Basingstoke and Return Averaged 43.4mpg and that was 70mph max on the Motorways, and Cruise Control as much as possible Also experienced a "slow puncture" as i do Not have Run Flats. Fortunately only a small nail in the tread and repairable. I did buy a spare full size 17" wheel for my last Gal, however do not carry that with me in the car. My thoughts are if i get a puncture i will call out the recovery people, and they can either take me to a local Kwik Fit etc, or take me home. The point of the spare wheel is therefore only used if i damage a wheel, or if i am brought home, and can then swap the flat tyre wheel for the spare one, till original one repaired. Otherwise car is going well, and i am very pleased with it Next update at 10,000 miles Quote
scooper1 Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 hi allthere has been a lot of software updates to the galaxy 2010 models last update was about 6 months ago and has nearly fix the dreaded turbo lag I know about the updates as my galaxy has been updated at each service - this is by original sales agreement because car had some many software faults 1. power steering over hyped at above 50 mph - glancing at radio you pull car across lanes2. turbo lag - improved each service update3. power shift gear box lag cause by turbo lag - as you demand power and turbo lag occurred and you keept on demanding power gear box would drop 2 gears - as box is only next ratio preselected this cause lag4. traction control not able to cope with full power cause by 2 and 3 means that you end up just spinning you wheels on a roundabout whith cars trying to not to hit you5 sony radio bugs ..... crashing out converse+ display and losing mp3 tracks6 curse control dropping out when changing speed with buttons7 auto wipers not seeing rain on screen8 auto headlights not coming on or not going off9 indicator that goes quieter at higher speed - should be the over way around the latest updates nearly fixes all the above points - note you can quickly tell if a galaxy with converse+ has been updated - it will have the engine temperature on main screen still love my galaxy and would be happy with new one .... thing to look out for don't have the run flats fitted - they are horrible by all accounts don't go for super low profile tires if you want to make galaxy handle better use 45 psi in back tires and 42 in front The 163 and 138 engine are the same engine with different calibrations ( change one code in the PCM gives the extra power) - I would go for the proper tuning chips that give out 183bhp for Quote
davewill Posted January 16, 2014 Author Report Posted January 16, 2014 Hi Scooper Some interesting comments re the 2010 model, as my old 140ps Powershift model did display a number of the points you raise. I feel that my new one 163ps Manual, (now done 7,000 miles) still has a very slight "lag" when gently pulling away in 3rd gear, although this is not a constant. The initial "engine stalling" quirk, has not happened for a while, so dont really see this as a problem now. Tyres are interesting as i run mine at 38PSI all round, and feel the handling (17", NOT run flats) is better at this pressure.. MPG is still around 43mpg yesterday on a 150 mile journey via A roads and Motorways Overall very happy with it cheers Dave Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) This does get better. I have just returned from a 250 mile round trip on mixed roads. I said earlier that the change of tyres had improved the ride and steering. Today has proved just how bad the run flats were. The car now feels totally different and I found myself going into bends now with a feeling of confidence that I haven't experienced since I handed over my old MKII and that is on the cheapest replacements available. I now realise that the car with the run flats was actually dangerously unstable on anything but a dead smooth dry surface. I had tried them at the recommended pressures and above and below.but there was no stage when the car felt safe. The tyres when discarded were still with 4-5 mm tread undamaged and evenly worn. My next step is to go back to the fitters to check the make but I believe they were fitted as original equipment as the car had only 8000 miles when I bought it and has done less than 4000 since. Run Flat tyres on these Galaxys are seriously dangerous and should be banned!!!! Sorry, Got confused and posted on the wrong topic but is still in context. Oops - where's me pills?
