PJK Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 Hi all, I'm in desperate need of help...My wife's 2005 Galaxy 1.9 TDi has developed an electrical fault that has got me baffled. So in a nut shell, The dash and switch background lights remain on even with the key out of the ignition and the car locked. Also we have noticed the rear number plate light is also on. I've done all the good things by checking all the earths under the bonnet and found nothing. This is an intermittent fault as it disappeared this morning after driving it for a while. It looks to me like a bad earth however whilst playing with the dash dimmer/headlight level switch I got the fault to return. the headlight level side still works but the dimmer does not. I disconnected the switch but the fault remains. Any help will be very welcome. Quote
gizmo.john Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 have a look in the rubber boot wiring to bootlid they brake and touch each other making side light dash light up. Quote
PJK Posted October 21, 2013 Author Report Posted October 21, 2013 Many thanks for the advice, taken a look and cannot see any broken or damaged wires. Quote
PJK Posted October 21, 2013 Author Report Posted October 21, 2013 Result.......found it by accident, well sort of. took the car for a drive to see if it would reset as it did for the wife. whilst driving checked every bit of electrical equipment. Found the NS rear electric window wasn't working so disconnected the plug cleaned it and now all working as advertised. Cheers for the help. Quote

daddyfixit Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 tailgate loom ; the favourite meeting point for all galaxy electrical gremlins/f-ups and niggling problems !!! Quote
xavier Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 My mate's dads galaxy was playing up (every light on dash lighting up) and garage reckoned it was a short in the ignition barrel. Actually, I'm not sure he's got it back yet! Quote
viperclive Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 Sounds like the usual door loom problem again, once them babies start breaking up and shorting out anything can happen. Quote
