Hi there,

 

I have issue with Ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi 2001 year car. Suddenly It won't go faster than 35 miles per hour. it just don't have power or something like that. 

In a past sometimes car didn't start properly. I mean I need hold starter motor 2-4 seconds to get my car on.

 

Head gasket has been changed couple months ago.

 

Any ideas what could be a reason for that ? Maybe turbine ?

also when I am driving sometimes (but it's really rarely) it jumps out from the gear.  And when I am switching my gears it is quit noisy sometimes. Maybe problems with gearbox and next with engine ? It's a manual transmission.

It sounds like at least 2 separate problems. The turbo alone would not cause that degree of power loss.

First question - does it tick over OK and at 35mph is it running smoothly or unevenly?

Personally, I haven't had anything like this but more information along those lines may give an idea of where to start.

Other things to look for include smoking, overheating, heavy oil consumption....

A bit more information and someone may recognise the symptoms.

Quickest way to fault find this is to do a diagnostic scan.

 

Invest in a cheap VCDS cable from ebay

Always worth having vagcom ,In the mean time its worth checking underneath to see if any pipes have come detached from the turbo.

Great relief all round :D :D

It's still worth getting a VAG com and playing with it. It may tell you why you had the problem and you're probably going to need it again. Mine's paid for itself 100 times over

Again problem with the car. Will buy that cable otherwise it's killing me. 

Also I have noticed when car is cold it's working all right but when I have drove approx. 60 miles that problem is starting.

That looks like the one I've got. Not sure if the software comes with it but that has already been covered. It's. not the device which determines the features but the software - as the ad states.

It's not something that will just work and give you the info, you have to play with it and learn. One of these without the extra software has always got me out of trouble but you may have to come back for help to interpret the fault codes. Just get one and play. A week later and you will be answering queries. :glare:

Just realised, there are 2 topics with the same problem. The other turned out to be the MAF. It is possible that yours is intermittent - not common. Disconnecting it may give a clue as that will give reduced performance but better than 35mph.

That cable will be fine, you don't need to register the software to do general stuff like checking and clearing fault codes, be warned if you do register and get full functionality you can render your car undriveable by altering certain settings.

I did ask seller about compatibility with ford galaxy 2001 and he said:

 

'Hi, looking at the compatibility chart, Ford is not on it, which means it's unlikely that it would work with your car. 

And we haven't got the cable that works with your car, sorry.

Thats because the seller is buying hundreds of things that sell, they dont know the specifics of eavh product ie ford galaxy is rebadged vw product and therefore it will work as you haave been told

With a few exceptions ie the petrol engines etc

I can also confirm this cable WILL work with the diesel Galaxies as it is the one I have and use on mine.  It does state it is compatible with the Seat Alhambra, which is just about the same mechanics and the same diesel engine.  It doesn't however state it is also compatible with the VW Sharan (which it also is).  Remember VW built Galaxy, Alhambra and Sharan's until the MKIII Galaxy came out and it is a VW engine in your car.  That is why you can often get parts cheaper from a VW dealer.

Just a thought about the 35 MPH issue and the fact that it seems ok when the car is cold..  Is it possible that you have a disk caliper binding slightly?  This would get worse over distance as the brake disk and pads warm up and expand making the situation worse.   It should be apparent if this is the issue as the faulty caliper will end up being very hot...

Before buying the lead, do you have a lap-top, as the computer needs to be within a metre or so of the car to plug it in.

 

Does it get better if you switch the engine off and restart it?*

 

* Don't do this at night without pulling over first, the headlights go out on the galaxy when you switch it off.

I had very similar symptoms and fixed it with a new MAF. Try unplugging it first to see if problem improves. If it does it's the MAF. See my previous topic

I tried to plug into car but when I tried press 'TEST' it says ' Port does not exist' Interface:not found! Contact your hardware supplier for assistance. 

 

I assume all drivers has been installed correctly (maybe not? ) after I plug-in cable it did auto search and said drivers installed correctly.

 

Windows 7-64bit

 

any ideas ?

Sorry guys for spamming! 

 

I have sorted out port problem, just changed from COM7 to COM3.

 

 

I did auto scan and I found couple errors. Also the scan hasn't finished because it showed m " Sorry! This function requires VCDS-Lite to be registered and activated. Please contact the Author or your distributor for an activation code"

1st fault means the boost pressure was too low and out of range. This is usually due to a seized/sticking vane actuator on the turbo (mk2 diesels and mk1 110bhp models) or a leak in the vacuum hoses of the actuator control circuit. This results in very little power.

 

2nd fault is either faulty abs sensor/broken abs ring or connector/wiring fault. The abs light should be lit indicating a fault in the abs system.
