My kiddie booster seat is currently integrated in the Near Side (Left) seat but I would be better served if it were on the driver's side (Right) . . . . . got it the wrong way round in the title!

 

anyone know if the seatbelt and stuff, or the base gubbings can be transposed with a strip-down, like the front seats do?

Sorry don't know about swapping the bits.

 

Usually near side would be better as you are supposed to park at the side of the road in the direction of travel.  This would mean you would be unloading children onto the pavement instead of into the road!

Yes, that's how we do it but we've got 2 kids and the older one, at 7, will use the Ford booster on the OS and the 3 year old will continue to use the "Proper" child seat on the NS, which I think is safer for the smaller kids anyway.

 

I'll get the tools out and report back

Yes it is possible to swap them around as we did this some years ago and converted the rear left seat, which had the booster seat, to the centre seat 2nd row.

 

I recall that the components you need to swap between the two chairs are the seat belt latch point/s which bolt to the chair chassis and the plastic 'skirting' around the base of the chair. The chair chassis are identical and allow the seat belt anchor points to be located left or right or in the case of the swap to the centre,both sides.

 

Remember to torque the seat belt anchor points to the correct setting as these form part of the MOT test and also are a key safety element of the car.

 

Not sure whether the insurance companies would see this as a modification?

Job done :D

 

I can confirm it's as easy as pie to do.  All you do is swap the seat back and seat bottoms over from the respective mechanisms. No messing with seatbelt anchorages or anything.  About a 25 minute job.

Unfortunately, if you just swap the seatbelt anchors, the seat lifting lever will be in the wrong place to access it from the open door.

 

Tools you need are:

Cross head screwdriver

Star-drive tools (3 different sizes needed)

Snipe-nose pliers

Rubber Gloves and a clothes peg.

 

Method:

Undo the cross head screws from the front of the plastic "Skirt trim"

Flip out the round hole covers from the same skirts and remove the small star-drive bolt

Watch out for the yellow "Trim fixing" half way down the skirt - carefully insert your snipe-nose pliers and squash to remove this pesky thing from the back

Clip off the skirt.

 

Next, remove the 4 x large star-drive bolts (2 each side) that hold the seat-back to the metal hinge area of the mechanism (Usually very tight and threadlocked in!)

 

Flip the seat over and remove the 4 x brass colour star-drive bolts that hold the seat pad to the metal frame (In the 4 corners)

 

That's it, you've removed all the upholstery.

 

Next, you need to put the rubber gloves on and place the clothes peg on your nose before you attempt to prise out all the decayed McDonalds, sweets, fruit, human and dog hair and general rubbish that accumulates within. :unsure:

 

Swap over the mechanism (Or upholstery) from the other side's seat and assembly is the reverse.

 

All good and works / fits a treat.
