Fraz-ktf Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Hi. I just collected my first Galaxy after 2 nail-biting days of waiting and I've found 3 niggling faults. 1. The parking sensors are not working (They don't detect things). When you turn on the ignition, there is a bleep and the on/off button flashes it's light. I've checked all the sensors and they are all "Clicking and vibrating" although at seemingly different intensities, as I learned to check for on this forum but I'm stumped as to how to proceed. any help appreciated. 2. One of the rear door's electric window switch has a piece missing from the top of it (Broken) and when I press the switch to operate the window, I can hear something trying to work inside the door but the window won't move. If I try the switch on the driver's door for the rear window, it works just fine. Again, any suggestions please? 3. The DVD screens don't work. I'm lead to believe that they work intermittently but I'd like to have them working correctly, though I don't know where to start with diagnosis etc. thanks folks Quote
chromedome Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 The parking sensors module is under the front passenger seat. A leak in the rear washer pipe, near the A Pillar, is common and the module gets soaked in water. Check to see if it's wet. If so your need to repair the leaky rear wash pipe first. People have been lucky by removing the parking sensor module and letting it dry in an airing cupboard for a couple of days. The electric window switch breaking is common, I've had two break. You will need to check for broken wires in the wiring loom between the door and pillar. Once again common. I know nothing about DVD screens but I'm sure a search will reveal all as people on the forum have had problems with them. Welcome to the world of the Ford Galaxy and all it's niggly problems. Also welcome to the forum. Quote
Fraz-ktf Posted September 12, 2013 Author Report Posted September 12, 2013 Thanks chromedome, for your assist. I'll take a gander in the passenger's footwell. the window switch actually has a bit of plastic missing from it's top surface and I can see the tiny green bulb inside. It's deffo doing something as I can hear it inside the door. I'll have to work out how to remove the door panel. Thanks again Quote
gregers Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 undo the screws on the handle, iirc then lift the door card up.if not gently using a pry bar remove the card by force, im thinking if your hearing noises ie the motor could well be working, then maybe the glass has come off its clamps.thats easy to sort. if not the it maybe the regulator/motor has over run?this is a royal P.I.A. chromedome Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Yes that little plastic bit is the bit that goes missing. New switch I'm afraid unless you can find a car in a local breakers. If the window works from the driver's door check that the window disable switch is not operated, pressed in IIRC. This is fitted to stop the kids playing with the windows. If ok I would check the wiring as I mentioned. Can you put your vehicle details in your profile. That way other members will be able to offer more advice if they know the car in question. Quote

I just checked for the schoolboy error (Driver's door safety switch) but it was off. When I operate the button on the dodgey door, there is a definite "click-click" and the interior light dims as the click is heard, showing that something electrical is making contact but as I say, the window operates just fine from the driver's door switch. I'm stuck! Quote
chromedome Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Check the wiring between the door and pillar. Still can't see your vehicle details. Quote
SilverBeast Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Still can't see your vehicle details. It's in his profile but not his signature. It's the same as mine! Quote
SilverBeast Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Without looking. I would guess that logically you should be able to swap the switches between the back doors to check if the wiring is OK, as it should be cheaper to stock a common part for both doors! Quote
Fraz-ktf Posted September 13, 2013 Author Report Posted September 13, 2013 Good idea Silverbeast, I'll try it and report back. Regarding the parking sensors, I've looked under the carpet in the passenger footwell, the rear wash-wipe pipe was off and it was just a little bit wet under there but I saw no sign of any wiring / sensor control box etc etc. where is that located? (2005 Galaxy Ghia 130) Thanks again Quote
SilverBeast Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 If I recall the parking sensor box is under the front passenger seat (lift the flap of carpet under the seat from behind from the footwell of the middle row rear passenger side seat). I think it will be where the beep comes from when you switch the ignition on. It's the low point of the floor so water pools there. Mine got soaked under the passenger carpet when the rear washer hose became detached as the sound deadening underneath is effectively a hgh capacity sponge! I caught it before it got to the electrics as I read through this Forum (particularly the FAQ's) before I bought it and was aware of the many "features" that crop up! It's worth getting a VCDS-LITE lead from ebay (<£10) to use with the free VCDS-LITE software from Ross-Tech as you will be able to diagnose a lot of issues using this. Quote
Fraz-ktf Posted September 14, 2013 Author Report Posted September 14, 2013 Thanks again Mr Beast. I found the parking sensor controller where you said but all was bone dry under there. I have VAG-COM but it doesn't report a fault with the sensors. They are all ticking, though a couple are very weak. How would I check further if the unit is faulty? Quote
SilverBeast Posted September 14, 2013 Report Posted September 14, 2013 You can monitor the sensors in VAG-COM. It should tell you the distance each of them is reading. Quote
Fraz-ktf Posted September 14, 2013 Author Report Posted September 14, 2013 That would be great but I can't find any mention of parking sensors, do you know which address it would be at or how to diagnose faults with them? I just know how to do an "Auto Scan" and then to manually select an address that has a fault and clear it and that's the extent of my VAG-COM knowledge. Quote
SilverBeast Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 You can't do an Auto-Scan properly on the free version you have to do the modules individually. Parking sensors are on the "Electronics 1" tab. Button 76-Park Assist. Not run it for a bit but from memory this will scan for faults and display them. If none there is a button at the bottom left that lets you monitor the 3 sets of outputs. Press that. In the window that opens Set the top one to 1, next to 2 and I believe that reads back the distances from each of the front and rear sensors. Quote
Fraz-ktf Posted September 15, 2013 Author Report Posted September 15, 2013 I'm rapidly starting to believe that you are my own personal Galaxy-Guru, Silverbeast. :D B) I did your above suggestion and it flagged up 2 x intermittent sensors and one faulty (Despite it giving off the "Pulsing" sound and vibration. I will swap this out with my friend's working one and check further and obviously report back. Just gotta read up on how to remove them and if it's a bumper-off job for the front ones? Quote
Fraz-ktf Posted September 15, 2013 Author Report Posted September 15, 2013 Hey, Silverbeast, I think my VAG-COM may be different to yours, I can't find the part that tests the sensor's sensitivity! I go into 76 Park Assist but the bottom left button gives 2 options, one left and one right. On both of these you can select a number by clicking Up or Down. Am I missing something? Quote
Fraz-ktf Posted September 15, 2013 Author Report Posted September 15, 2013 JOB DONE B) Thanks everyone for your assist. It seems like I had 2 faulty sensors. Replaced them with known working ones and all is sweet. Found the distance checker in VAG-COM and the 2 dodgey sensors were giving lower and constantly varying readings, where as the working ones all said 225cm. Now to sort out the driver's side wiper that doesn't sweep far enough . . . . Quote
SilverBeast Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 That's seized spindles. You need to remove the mechanism and free them up. Removing the mechanism is easier than freeing the spindles. There is a "How To" in the Frequently Asked Questions section as it is a common occurence. Ford will want to sell you a new mechanism fro several hundred pounds. Quote
